Yeah I know, another joystick question http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Just need some constructive input or advice on force feedback joysticks. Right now I have the opportunity if I'm lucky to get a hold of a now rare and used MS FFB2 stick. However I'm not willing to pay more than $100 for any stick. Should I go for the used MS, or go for one of the newer FFB sticks by Saitek or Thrustmaster?

Any thoughts on which stick is better, more durable, has the best support, worth the money etc. I've heard a lot about how good the MS stick is, but if I'm unable to snag one, then what would be the next best thing? Thank you in advance for any helpful inputs.

Well the MSFFB stick is harder to find than dinosaur eggs nowadays..... I have had some bad experiences with Logitech.. I know nothing about any other FFB stick but the MSFFB... so why am I in this thread? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

If you can get the MSFF2 used and it is in perfict condition, I would say go for it. Mine works great, and I love it.

I got the Thrustmaster afterburnerFFB & really like it. lots of button functions & if you use TiR you can use you pov for even more functions. must have about 20+ key commands setup on my profile.
I cant compare this stick to any other FFB stick as this is my first FFB.
If you are left handed forget it.

I've used two and as far as FFB goes Microsoft is the best...period.

Until CH comes out with a new improved version though, I'll be using non-ffb controllers.

No Cyborg Force stick beats the FFB 2 really. Especially for people like me who like strong force feedback. That is really all the difference since both uses the same software so the force feedback is very much the same. Except Saiteks force feedback is stronger.

Seem quite durable too. Have had it long now and not a single issue in any game including IL 2/IL 2 FB/ Fs 2002/FS 2004 /LOMAC Mechwarrior/NHL 2004 etc etc.

I have a MS Sidewinder FFB 2 and I love it. I had a Logitch FFB 3d and it was much worse. This unit is sturdier, the joystick is tighter and the forcefeedback is ridiculously strong (so strong that it is hard to aim, especially with 30mm guns).

I started with the Microsoft FFB2 a year ago , and was very satisfied with the force feedback effects .
However , I found that the buttons on top of the stick were not realy easy to reach with my thumb without loosing my aim .
I did not like the twist handle for the rudder .
So i decided to buy a another stick and some rudder pedals .

I bought a Thrustmaster Top Gun AfterBurner Force Feedback Joystick which has a seperate throttle control ,, and a CH products rudder pesals set.
In my opinion , the Thrustmaster stick has a very good shape , all buttons can be reached without losing a firm grip of the stick when aiming .
It is a very ergonomicly designed stick .

However , I found the force feedback effects of the Thrustmaster stick to be less subtle than the MSFFB2 . The forces of the the Thrustmaster were too exagurated , in my opinion .
So I decided to exploit the best aspects of both sticks : I made a home made "frankenstein" setup , using parts of both units .

I used the electronics and the hardware ( gearbox + the 2 electric motors )of the MSFFB2 stick and build a new housing for them made of wood .

From the Thrustmaster unit , I only used the plastic housing of the actual stick and the actual throttle( not the console , nor the electronics )

It took me a few days to assemble the whole thing , but as I have build radio controlled model aircraft in the past , I had the necessary tools , so that was not realy a problem .

I even bought a second MSFFB2 unit a few days ago in order to have some spare parts for my "home made" unit . I had to go to 8 !!!shops before I could finally find one !( I live in Flanders Belgium )
So basicly , it is a MS setup , but with an adapted stick and throttle .

Anyway , if you want good subtle force feedback effects , go for the MSFFB2 stick , ...... if you can still find one .( because microsoft is no longer making sticks )

I've heard that CH products is planning to make a new stick , with FFB .
When they do I'll try it , until then I'll stick to my "custom made" Microsoft unit.

Regards ,
Serge V. E.

Thanks to all of you that have replied so far http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Orheim: advice noted. I still want to upgrade my stick to a FFB to get more of a feel for the game. No worries though, TrackIR2 is also on my list. Been thinking about it for months. Maybe even some foot pedals too. As soon as I pay off some bills and get my tax refund back, Daddy's going to buy himself a nice present.

Because you are a nice guy Bearcathttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

From the looks of things, I don't think that I will end up getting an MS FFB2 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gifunless one of you gentlemen can tell me where to get one besides Ebay and for a reasonable price. For the price of one I could probably get two Saiteks right now. From what I've read it so far it seems to be more on par with the MS unit.

Anymore advice or experience with these sticks from anyone else? The MS still seems to be the best, but which one of the other two is better?
