View Full Version : Padlock in next BoB Suggestion

it would be good to see in the next il2: bob, a 'padlock target on nose' feature. this way you cant use padlock as a radar and you have to put your target in the crosshairs so you need to be able to see your target visually. Falcon 4 used to do it this way, and it was just right.
Maybe to serve everyone, have an option to turn off normal padlock functions and 'padlock on nose' separately.

Ive not seen a thread on this subject yet, appologies if i missed it being mentioned before.

Remove it padlock completely from the game.

Leave targeting locking aids in the dust like they should be.

Simply make the hat work like a mouse cursor no need for padlocking aid

Correct me if Im wrong, the F5 Key toggles between 'snap' POV hat movement and 'pan', just like mouse.

the aim here is to reduce the things you need to do, surely the virtual equivalent of switching your neck on and off, padlock, is better than panning around at a fixed speed with another control surface whilst trying to focus on your direction of travel, combat tactics, and situational awareness.

some people use the mouse to look around, but this is not perfect for all as sticks with separate throttle and stick require both hands to use.

I agree padlock is good as an option, I used to use it VERY much... But it would be nicer without the green triangle, and if it lets go when target goes in a cloud

Gravity never looses, the best you can hope for is a draw

don't see the harm of having it as an option, but I've never used it and wouldn't miss it.

Crashing online as :FI:SpinyNorman

Normally Spiny Norman was wont to be about
twelve feet from snout to tail, but when Dinsdale was depressed Norman could be
anything up to eight hundred yards long.

There is a command in AEP which will eliminate the green padlock triangle.

As far as losing lock when you or your target enters a cloud, this feature is already implemented. Unfortunately, there is a cheat which lets you MAINTAIN (not acquire) your lock even in clouds.

make a deal with Naturalpoint and package a TrackIr unit with each box.

Imagine all the time coding they would save by not having to worry at all about padlock - instead just continue to use the track dll.

Keep the padlock please...not everyone has TrackIR or time to play with it. I agree that the system should be upgraded...I shouldn't be able to see my target through wings or through the floor...but if its visible I should be able to keep it in view.

Aids should be in until the games become VR and I can turn my own head to follow the target. Then I'll give it up http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The padlock on nose feature is nonsense.
As if you're only having to padlock targets on the nose. (But maybe that's how noobs fly?)

I dunno about you guys but i padlock targets to the side left and right, over the shoulder left and right, upwards left and right, in short, everywhere where i can see em. Not just on the nose. That'd be dweebish.

Besides, this padlock on the nose is a request for the wrong thing in order to solve something (radar feature) that isn't padlocks fault in the first place.

If the mid range graphics had been up to par, nobody would have had any reason to gripe about radar padlock, because everybody would be able to see whatever it was they padlocked.
Now you sometimes can't see what it is you've padlocked, but that is because of the unclear graphics.

So you wanna solve the "radar padlock"? Enable icons to appear at current max. padlock range.
Let's have a good padlock in BoB for a change and not this sorry excuse for a padlock we have FB.

really don't know how can someone prefer padlock to a good hatch. I feel much better just turning my virtual head.. just enough to keep ttrack of target (in corner of screen)

If brute force does not solve your problem... you are not using enough!

If we speak of FB's padlock, then yes, i'd have to agree with you. If i had to choose between hatswitch or padlock in FB, i'd choose hatswitch. Because the padlock in FB is quite useless. It breaks lock when it shouldn't.

However if we speak of a good padlock (unlike the one in FB) then i'd have to disagree.
I'd take a GOOD padlock any day over having to move the hatswitch. Not having to use your hands to visually track objects is the ultimate. But ofcourse there'd have to be a few requirements to that padlock first.
It wouldn't be anything like current FB, i can tell you that.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'd like to see the padlock stay, its balances out against those who have TrackIR.

It also helps after a few beers.
