Just thought I'd post my fave planes at this point in my 'career' as a newbie!

Note: I onlyplay forced-cockpit, no externals, no padlock, no TrackIR (yet.) I like the icon option where I know where I am on the grid, otherwise all else 'full-real.' I mouse and glance-hat look mostly.

My first love is the Hurricaine. Ofcourse the mkIIc with 4 cannon! The mkIIb with 6 .303's doesn't help me much! I need unlimited ammo to make a dent with that one.

My nemesis is still the I-16. The plane has promise but slides into a spin too easily still. So I practice this ol' harley a lot.

Bf-109E-G-x is are nice planes. Fast and good turners with the 2 MG and 1 cannon is a great armement. On servers that allow them, however, I go for 109-K with manual prop-pitch. (It over spins most the time at >75% pitch!)

P-39. Plane tends to spin-stall (which is where, I suppose, the signature crack soeone has, that the US gave all the p-39s to the Russians to stall in and die spinning, comment came from?), but if I can keep it's speed up, it's fun to BnZ with while still having some low-speed, high-G chops to show in a turn fight.

Spitfire
Closest plane to the arcade I have found so far. This plane can do most things well.

Have not enjoyed the planes with the 6 50cals yet. Some P-47, and I've taken P51s once in while. I'm just trying to get used to 2MG 1 or 2 Cannon armaments at this point.

Any advice for a noob? Any noobs with preferences who would argue with me? (Useless arguemnt, but might be fun!)

I'm still trying to get handy in the I-16. That's one tough old 'cycle to master!

Novice Pilot.

Good going n00b.I`m a n00b too but I`ve been playing since 2002.

I advise you to cut the turning stuff with LW planes. You can go for a stallfight but that`s really hard to master.

And don`t use manual prop pitch.Since the patch it`s messed up.Auto pp guarantees mediocre engine management.

Hi carguy!
Well, when I'm manageing PropPitch and trim it sounds like Im typing a research paper! I'm still addicted to the old planes without all the modern conveiniences! So prop pitching a 109K in manual is fun for me! Esp with all that extra horsepower on that ride!

Hey BTW, can I mess wuth a file with math expression macros to trim adjustments at 2x the default? I would rather trim-in with 5 clicks instead of the 10 I need to punch now! LOL

Would love to play with some novice players like myself! Would be fun! Look for me in Hyperlobby or page me.

Also, is there anywhere to find ppl to play with on the various Teamspeak hosts? Any teamspeaks that I should know about with multiple channels for 1v1s in Hyperlobby? That would be a blast!

<S> to all who've helped me (and generously, so far on this forum!.) Thank you all!

Also, My Dad and I are going to the http://www.americanairpowermuseum.com/ for fathers day. I'll be taking 2meg dig shots of those planes. They have a B-17, P-40s and P51s. Just let me know where to send my shots for you enthusiasts. No I'm not an enthusiast, but I am considering a TrackIR, already!

I learned to fly with the Il2 (and even tried to dogfight with it, like an idiot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Then I had a brief dalliance with the Yak family, but my first love was-And still is- the I-16. Sure my twitchy little darling has killed me more than a few times, (It drops out of the sky like a @#$%ing brick when you stall it..And it stalls easy.) But they really are fun to fly.

Sure the enging stops running when you pull negative g's and then can't be restarted, sure it overheats faster than pretty much any other plane in the game, sure it has only 2 flap settings, and you have to crank the landing gears up and down manually...But that's all part of the charm really.

On the plus side, it climbs really well, and rolls like there's no tomorrow...Plus the open cockpit allows you to more easily give the finger to enemy pilots as you squirm out from under their guns and come around on their tail...

Flying the dynamic campaign that starts off with the "rat" was a great move for me. Of course I hated it at first - but experience with this plane helped my game no end. I even learned to love it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I learned a lot about flying and about gunnery with this plane and I recommend it to all other noobs. It won't be easy at first though.

I also hate the i-16 perhaps more than any other plane in my german campaign. Accursed rats. In the bf-109F2 I can't turn with them and I can't really boom and zoom them either. They are too tricky.

I have flown '30s aircraft since I started playing. I really trained myself to shoot on the p.11, J8A and the I-16. Since all I fly these days
is the p.11 and J8A, the huricane mk.1 seems to have unbelivable firepower.

Damn, I hate hearing my spit being called a n00b/arcade planehttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif

You've got a point though. If I was starting out in FB the IX (patch 2.02b) would be a great choice. good performance, easy and good handling, excellent weapons, auto prop-pitch and radiator, forgiving.

I dont really understand what people mean by "arcade", its modelled quite realisitcly now isnt it? I havnt played the new beta so I dont know.

I love the I-16, it's a great little bird. It gives you a fair amount of stall warning, so with a little practice, it's not that hard to handle.

My n00b plane was the La-5FN. It can do most things well, but don't try to dive with any LW plane in it. It breaks apart like china.

Hi,

I dunno about the Spit being arcade; it turns well and climbs well and those 20mm Hispanos are a delivery of death but 'arcade'?.

Pre v2.01, they were a lot easier to fly but now appear to be more easily spun, especially the Mk IX.

Cheers,
Norris

Well, I merely called the Spit a newbie plane because it IS so forgiving and powerful! I did not mean to 'dis the plane, FWIW! But Spits don't show up in campaign for quite a while. Getta get used to I-16s which requires, by comparison, a great deal more to fly than most later planes, which I find useful in acquiring more skill and a good ride for new pilots who are not discouraged by extreme frustration!

Hi,

You're quite right in that respect; the Spit is probably easier to jump into a fly than, say, the spintastic I16.

Cheers,
Norris

Noobs play P51, because everybody told them it was the best fighter of the war.
