I've recently started flying VFW. And flying the 110 against tanks whenever I can. So I need help with ordanance choices.

My last mission I took 2 SC 500's and a pair of Mk108's. The 108's chewed through the convoys, but were useless against the tanks. The SC500's took out 2 tanks of 4, but thats all I had.

I've tried to use the BK gun against them, aimed for the back, but I never killed a 1. I don't know it it was ineffective or I just missed. ALl I saw was a big explosion before I had to pull up.

So, a couple of questions:

How do you effectively aim the BK gun?

Do smaller bombs do the trick? What if I too those 4 SC 50's on the wings?

The most effective armament against tanks is the BK 3,7. Attack from an altitude about 600 - 800m and try to hit the engine behind the tower. I managed to kill more than eight T-34 this way. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Mk 108 is useless against heavy armored targets as it uses explosive grenades only.

You can kill lighter tanks with the MG151 and Mk108 just as good as with the 3.7cm gun - just have to come down at a relatively sharp angle and from the rear.

Hi,
The sc500 bombs will do the trick if your aim is good, so the sc50 will. use them both. First pass drop sc500 (delay 3 sec) at low altitude, come back and take the rest of the tanks out with the sc50, the sc50 must hit the tank, no near miss will kill the tank.
You could try the AB500 but its hard to aim, bomb delay 0sec and fly over the target at 250 (not lower otherwhise the bomb just hit the ground and do nothing) meters at 300Ias, i have taken out out 3 IS2 this way. The trick is when to release the bombs, but thats for you to find out.
The BK3.7 shoots HE ammo so is useless against real tanks. (thats the big explosion, try the BK3.7 on the Ju87G and you wont see explosion, that APammo).
Just keep on practising and you will do okay.

regards and have fun

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Getting tired already, are we Crash? How's "Bubi" doing?

Oh, BTW, when flying the 110 in Ground Attack mode, don't turn away for another pass until you're out of firing range of your targets. There is no side cockpit armor, and you can be easily PK'd if you turn too soon.

Last question is gas. I took 75% and flew to hell and back, I even got lost. Needle never moved! Is 75% way to much?

50% fuel will give you enough endurance to buzz around at 100% power for over an hour. The average VWF mission for the host takes only 45-50 minutes for actual mission time. 25% fuel will even do the trick if you just make one run on the enemy and don't stick around or get lost.

For tank busting I recommend the SC500's or BK3.7, either will work well. I personally prefer bombs because all the tank kills in the world don't do a damn bit of good if you get shot down by an interceptor. So I take my bombs, drop them and get out of there before the enemy has a chance to stop me. The BK3.7 is only effective vs medium tanks when you dive on them at a 45 deg angle or more and hit them on the engine compartment aft of the turret. In short you have to be an uber sniper that makes the AI jealous. It also takes a long time to do since you are unlikely to get more than 1 kill per pass and you will make dozens of passes without scoring a kill before you figure it out. The end result is if you take a BK3.7, you will spend a long time over the target area even if you know what you're doing. This of course gives the enemy interceptors and flak lots of time to put holes in you. If you pull it off you will rack up a pretty good score though, one guy managed 350 points in one mission by busting tanks that way. But I wouldn't count on that, that was mostly luck. If you want consistant results I suggest bombs only and never, ever strafe a target under any circumstances. Making multiple passes increases your time over enemy territory and firing your guns reveals your exact location to everyone within 50km of you.

BTW, in my oppinion the MK108 is the single worst weapon for strafing in FB/AEP. It is inaccurate, has high recoil, blinding muzzle flash, low ammo and vs soft targets is no more effective than 20mm MG151.

when i'm being useless, i like to low-level bomb or dive bomb with a delay... aim slightly in front of the tanks, theyll drive right over the bombs and get destroyed... means you can drop bombs right at the last moment, get great accuracy and not blow yourself up. not very realistic tho i dont think...
