Dear champions,

Simon V, member of our Design team, reveals a few new exclusive abilities and machanics that will be introduced in VOID RISING.

Soon the Naga forces will submerge the battlefields. They may be your allies or your enemies, but whatever happens it’s important you learn more about them!
The Sanctuary faction has many specialists in combat amongst its ranks. Alone, they are an easy prey, but together they become fearless and more powerful.

But before explaining how the new Honour ability works, we will explain how we ended up with such a result.


Who here is used to deploying troops in a zig-zag pattern on the battlefield?
If we ask you why you do this, you will probably answer briefly with reasons involving words like “Inferno” and “Fireball”. You take more chances when you don’t deploy in zig-zag, or you will do this in order to have a more varied attack … On the other hand, not all factions have strong archers who can cover the creatures in the front line. Haven have 2 very powerful abilities that force them to deploy creatures side by side (Guard and Heal), but these abilities involve taking a big risk for a strategy that is based on defense. So, in doubt, deploy in zig-zag!

We wanted to introduce new strategies that offer styles of deployment more adapted to dealing with all types of situation. And for this, we needed this ability to be worth taking the risk of being hit in the face by an “area of effect” spell such as Fireball!

The best defense is offence, no? Therefore we needed our new ability to be usable before the arrival of big spells. From this was born the idea of Honour!


Wanizame

Imagine the following scenario: you have just deployed 3 creatures in zig-zag on the field, with one empty space in the middle.

On your 4th turn, one mighty warrior called a Wanizame comes into your hand and you place him between his 3 brothers in arms, in that empty space.

Suddenly, the 3 creatures originally present on the field gain +1 attack each! And now you see it, the Honour 1 ability on your card… But can it get any better?



Now picture this : you have 2 Wanizames on the board with a space between them.

You then pick a Pao DeathSeeker…

So Honour can work in two types of deployment: you can use it to boost creatures already on the battlefield in a surprise attack or place the creatures with the honour ability before hand and wait for a big creature to come into your hand for a powerful final stroke. You must prepare the battlefield, deploy in a zig-zag formation, use your honour to its maximum effect and take the risk of being hit by a big area of effect spell.

The Nagas have more than one trick up their sleeve though. We have explained how one ability works, but they have a total of 4 new abilities! So keep an eye on the forum for the others ;)

hmm , the keyword is nice and all , but the stats is what's important .

Except Fireball will still wreck this card and no one in their right mind would gamble against a 4-magic Inferno by completing a cross formation with this card.

hmm , the keyword is nice and all , but the stats is what's important .
I hope the 3/1/5 will be worth it .
but together they have 4/2/5, waiting other 3 abilities)

I would have prefered it to be on a cheaper unit , or a more durable unit .

the stats are ok-ish , but a fireball will most likely ruin your completed cross formation .
the pao combo is nice though , since it dies right after your turn .

You're not giving this enough credit.

Or did you forget? Melee & Ranged Guard are 2 of the most annoying abilities in the game.

I always do it, unless it's a biiiiiig tournament.

I know second ability but i won't mess up the surprise. xd

That's exactly it though, you realize it's still a gamble. The introduction for this ability makes it sound like it's designed to be playable against Fireball. It's the exact opposite, it's hard countered by Fireball.

And if I recall correctly, the naga hero introduced a few weaks back had the ability to return his creatures back into his hand.. I smell a very nasty combo comming op. Everlasting 5 attack Pao Deathseeker, or using a Wamizane as a powe boost anybody?

That hero was the zero might spell caster. ^^

On second picture you can see two cards with cost 0 (and it isn't "blue" zero like free spells with blue spider, but "white" zero) probably some fortunes cards (first three cards are creatures and the last one is fortune so i think that these free cards are fortunes). Also you can see that first player can't play this card, so it can be played for free under certain conditions like another new card, Vulture Rider

It looks that not only Stronghold will have cards with zero cost . BTW cards like this are nice new mechanic.

Surprisingly everyone seems to be forgetting the fact that there are only two influential area of effect spells that care about the cross formation - Geyser and Fireball. It's almost guaranteed that inferno decks with access to fire magic will play Fireball, Getting your board almost wiped is not a happy prospect, but ask yourself how often does it really happen and isn't the buff worth it. It feels to me that there isn't really enough threats to continuously zigzag, even against Inferno, if you have creatures strong enough or board manipulating tricks, just like Honour is.

And many inferno decks are rush decks not even bothering with 4 magic. So if you encounter a 4 magic inferno deck, you must be aware of it and play acording to it. I think Honour sounds really good and will take some time getting used to it as an opponent. I like it!

But things will change!
Maybe there will be some new spells for Inferno making 4 worth it.
Also we have to wait how Sanctuary will impact inferno decks.

yes , but they are printed on 2 cost creatures with rather good stats for their cost .
wanizame is kinda weak , expensive , and to add all that up , it's melee as well .
too many restrictions on one card to make it good yet . it might be good once we see the whole set... maybe there are some hidden interactions , etc .

for now it's an ok power , I really like it , but the body it's attached to is meh :(
