The music in IL2/FB is not as good as it could be. If you haven't already done so you should replace the originals with something better.

If you use the tracks listed below it will help give FB a more cinematic flavour.

I'm making these tracks available for a couple of days but after that I'm going to have to take them down.

New Menu Music
--------------

Download the following files and extract them to your IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles/Samples/Music/Menu folder (backup and overwrite the ones in there)

Soviet National Anthem (will become the default menu music)
http://www.totallyradio.com/fb_shots/ru.zip

Luftwaffe March
http://www.totallyradio.com/fb_shots/de.zip

Hungarian National Anthem
http://www.totallyradio.com/fb_shots/hu.zip

Finnish National Anthem
http://www.totallyradio.com/fb_shots/fi.zip

Music for Britain, USA and Japan can be installed by downloading Extreme_One's RAF, Real Deal and North and South campaigns.

Crash Music
-----------

Download and extract to your IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles/Samples/Music/Menu/Crash folder.

http://www.totallyradio.com/fb_shots/1_crsh.zip

Take Off Music
--------------

Download and extract to your IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles/Samples/Music/Menu/TakeOff folder.

Thanx, Huxley. I only need the Soviet music. The other music I use the chatter voices for to give the sim a feeling of realism in flight. Great stuff.

Thanx, Huxley. Like that Soviet music track. It really epitomises the Soviet feel for me.

Love those tunes. Recognized two of them right off the bat. The german march was the opening piece for "Battle of Britain" and the 2nd take off theme is from the "Saving Private Ryan" soundtrack. Beautiful piece. Nice Job, but I want to make a request... Can you find the take-off music from "Memphis Belle"(1990)and opener and make them availabe somehow? They would be PERFECT for this game! Either way, good show and bravo.
Cheers,
Geoff

TOTALLY AWSHUM! I love the ruskie music especially. Where can I find this Extreme_One's RAF, Real Deal and North and South campaign? Also, do you have any good music for in flight?

Amazing job, compared to the original music there is absolutley no contest! Bravo!

HOw do I get them to work? I replaced the ru file with the ru dowladed but FB just refuses to play any of those music except for the takeoff/flight/crash music.

*EDIT* Nevermind, I forgot to switch the "Play music" switch in the audio menu.

Try to find Finlandia by Sibelius in wav. It beats Finnish national anthem in atmosphere. The classic Finnish anti war movie The Unknown Soldier (1955) starts and ends with Finlandia and the combination of this great music and black and white film is unforgettable.

Recently there have been talks about replacing the national anthem with Finlandia.

There's no doubt that the Soviets new how to use music to great effect.

The Soviet anthem is a fantastic tune that makes you want to crack open the vodka and throw your arm around your comrade.

Belarus has probably the lovliest national anthem of all.

I'm not 100% sure that the track I've listed is the Finnish national anthem. I think it is but I can't be sure. It took me ages to find, most versions I found on the web were god-awful soft-rock arrangements. Perhaps you could have a listen to it and see if it is correct. Sounds ok anyway.

Yes it is OK. Finnish (MacLaren?) anthem.

Still Finlandia rules.

Gotta agree about the Soviet anthem. It`s hard not to almost get drawn in by it. You feel you can take on the whole Luftwaffe in a TB3 after listening to one track of that! Great for pepping you up when you`re about to go and fight.

Specially for you Seafire... this is the Belarussian anthem... it says to me "**** happens but life goes on"... makes a great Crash track.

Hey, this is a really, REALLY cool idea! Question: I managed to download the soviet soundtrack just fine, but everytime I try to go to the other links, I get an error message. Am I doing something wrong, err...?!?!?!?!

Huxley_S
03-08-2004, 05:28 PM
yeah... I took them all down! I can't keep them all on an open link... for various reasons.

But if you send me a Private message I'll give you some new links... how's that?

splendid. I could see that coming a mile away.

fact is... I'm pretty new to this game myself... I'll initiate it... check your private topics (under My Space) in the Ubi forums menu http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I think another Sibelius piece would be more appropriate - J√¬§√¬§k√¬§rimarssi (Jaegermarch). "Finlandia" requires too much attention from the listener, "Maamme" is more a victory song, but "J√¬§√¬§k√¬§rimarssi" is right on the money when it comes to raising fighting spirit.

Did you check out that Belarus anthem? makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up on end it does. I wish that was my national anthem the lucky buggers....

This was clearly the soviets' plan to conquer the world, not with flags, but with superb national anthems.

Had a listen to that Belorussian track. It`s really good. A softer yet still powerful theme, saying `life`s tough, but you can make it`... I think I`ll use the main Soviet one for the menu and the Belorussian one for landing after a mission or something. They certainly know how to make music to rouse the masses. Lovely stuff. Thankyou.
