I have it and I still play it. Theres nothing like jumping into a B-17 and maning all the positions. I love the intense moments during the bomb run. Turn up your speakers and let the FLAK blow you away. It really gives you a feeling of what they went through. I have flown the fighers but never got used to those pits. I would highly recommend it if you love the B-17. I get alot of aircraft kills in the topturret. I also like how you can be a Bomber commander or a squadron commader and be responsible for 10 bombers, and plan the mission. The game doesnt have kick a** graphics but they are pretty cool. It the immersion thats the best part. I love this game, I alternate between FB and B-17 just for to fly the B-17.

Hi DD_NL,

Personally I love the game. The chance to fly B17's with comprehensive instrumentation and escort and attacking fighters too is just great. It suffered a bit after its initial release with a few problems but with the patches installed it should be OK. Maybe they are included with the latest release versions of the game?

It lacks any multiplayer option which had been promised by the developers from the outset and this may have put some people off it from the start but as a single player sim it is still very good value. To be honest with you there is just no feeling to match succesfully putting bombs on target for the first time or indeed any time after surviving the multitude of flak and enemy fighters and then making it home OK.

I'm not sure but there may be some issues with the game and windows XP but for more information have a look www.bombs-away.net (http://www.bombs-away.net) which has information and forums to help you on your way.

Good bombing,

Drop on over to the Bombs-away.net site and click on the v8th Ops forums. You'll find guys that are still flying missions in as close a recreation of MP as you can.

I recommend that you do not download the game as any copy of the download is corrupt. Your best bet is to search as best you can and pick up a copy of the CD ... its fairly cheap now around 5 to 7 dollars U.S. depending on where you get it.

But its a damn exciting game and I still fly it regularly.

Hi DD_NL The game plays fine in XP as long as SP1 is installed first. All the patches are included in the game in the jewel case version. It can be found in most bargain bins at stores and online stores too. There are some guys playing weekly missions at Bombs-Away.

I used to fly the B17 II sim when it first came out... and yes, I was sad enough to do the loooong stint several times, even did the navigating thing which was tough. I`m not a bomber flyer really (I`m a fighter), but I enjoy the crew management thing and liked the original too (on the Amiga).

I might fish that one out again sometime....

I remember playing the original B17 Flying Fortress...

After you got past the swapping 4 disks in and out of the drive 50 times during the install I remember being kinda fascinated by the game itself.

Could never figure out the bombsight though and never made it past 5 missions, my 14 year old attention span quickly lost interest in the game.

Eventually went back to Chuck Yeagers Air Combat.. "Its a good day to fly"

Or was F14 Fleet Defender my ride of choice at the time?

Good times anyways....

Never played the new one.. never even saw it for sale anywhere...

Man I could never figure that thing out. I couldnt get the AI to take me off, and there were only 6 SP mission besides the campaign. Very frusterating.

I like being a gunner in the sim since it's better than IL2 in that respect. It proves that the joystick is a better device for aiming than a mouse is. The Norden bombsight simulation is also better than anything else out there as far as bombsight usage goes. I have some graphic glitches in the game running Win98SE though.

when i first saw il-2 i think that programers of Il-2 used many ideas from B-17 flying fortress (try flying messerschmitt or p47 and you'll know what i mean)

a very good game which provide you an opportunity to make excellent bomb runs http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, compare it with IL-2, well... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

WAAAIIIIIIT, before you install remember this DO NOT install the A3D drivers that come with the game, i know it says it needs 'em but dont, I made that mistake of installing them then one day FB or IL2 didnt work and I couldnt get Neverwinter Nights to run exept with sound turned off. These drivers are a pain, LEAVE THEM OUT. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Sorry for yelling, was trying to get you attention. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif
