Sorry, if this is old news.

Ubi is publishing an add on for IL-2 Sturmovik: FB called The Pacific Fighters. It's made by Maddox and 1C and it will feature the historical battles between USAAF, RAF and Australian AF vs. Japanese navy and AF.

Pacific Fighters will feature at least Pearl Harbor, Singapore, Midway and Guadalcanal. Over 40 plane types will be flyable, while bombers and torpedo bombers will be somewhat weighed.

*Sigh* I was waiting for the summer, but now I wish it was over already. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No wonder, in one thread in ORR, Oleg called the upcoming Pacific project a sequel to FB instead of an add-on. With 40 new aircraft, it sounds like a brand new game.

As far as I know it's mainly made by 3rd party modelers and Luthier. I don't think it's going to be a 1C game but it might be compatible with FB Oleg said.

I see what you mean, skypat. But it seems like a general gamers' website, and if they are indeed playing an April Fool's joke, why direct it on a particular group of people like flight simmers and IL-2 fans in particular ? I'd think they'd catch more fish with "news" about Half Life 2 or Star Wars Galaxies closing down, something like that. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It won't be the end of the world if its a standalone game but it would be really cool if it was FB/Aces compatible.

My thoughts exactly. I would really like to fire up FB:Aces and be able to trundle around in a Pacific theater. I'll pay for it...and gladly, but I'd much prefer only one icon on my desktop to launch all the 1:C goodness

I doubt if it's an April fools joke, but if it is, it's a good one. It had me jumping around. Anyway, does this mean that Oleg'll incorporate Carrier landings in AEP? I hope so. It might also be a good time to get rid of that pesky high-alt bug.

Press Release : 1C's Pacific Fighters Revealed
Posted by Chris 'Pie4Foo' Abele @ 14:57

Ubisoft announced its next flight sim from Oleg Maddox's development house, Pacific Fighters.

The first details of the next project for Oleg Maddox's 1C company were released today by publisher Ubisoft. The latest game to be based on the IL-2 Sturmovik (review) flight sim platform, Pacific Fighters will move the game's action from the Eastern Front of Europe to the Pacific Theater during World War II. The new game features 40 authentic, flyable planes from the era, and the 16 new maps will cover such battles as Guadalcanal, Pearl Harbor, and Singapore. In a notable new feature, pilots will be able to takeoff and land on aircraft carriers.

"Pacific Fighters will deliver even more of the high-quality graphics, historical detail, and realism that IL-2 fans have come to expect, this time in a dynamic, new Pacific war setting," said Alain Corre, EMEA managing director at Ubisoft. "We are thrilled to offer flight sim enthusiasts the opportunity to fight in memorable aerial battles over famous locations, such as Midway and Iwo Jima, while still enjoying extensive multiplayer options."

"We're extremely proud and excited to bring Pacific Fighters to the combat flight sim audience, because we know they're going to be very pleased with improvements to the award-winning IL-2 game engine and [will] enjoy the new Pacific war setting," added Ilya Shevchenko, the game's producer. "Players will appreciate the variety of famous fighters. However, in this title, more than in any previous Maddox sim, we're emphasizing flyable bombers, such as the SBD Dauntless, Aichi Val, Mitsubishi G4M Betty, and at least four versions of the North American B-25 Mitchell."
