There was a development version available for free download for a while, it was very popular. All the reports I've seen on the retail version indicate that quality has only improved. Understandably under the circumstances, the development version is no longer available for download.

I bought Operation Barbarossa after completing the original IL2. I saw on Just Flights website that there is a patch to patch it to the newer version for FB. It won't let me have access to the patch and I was wondering if anyone new of an alternate location for the patch. Thank you for your time.

True all you get is some missions & a few crummy skins. lol
all of which you can do your self. So why throw away good money? any way IMO these yahoos all need to be shot for putting this crap on the shelf. 1 thing is they're trying to make money off a game they didn't even have a hand in developing & for another for causeing us not to be able use misssions from our net cach. Tha bastids!

Free Better Quality skins

Better Designed coop campaigns and df missions

save your cash people.

why pay an extra 10 bucks for a box which is the reason its 19.00 the same price of il2fb with only 2% of the work. Im so against this product but everyone free to buy it if they like.

Seriously, this package, while it may be nice, is really a waste of money because you can find everything you want (and better) online. Unless you're so lazy that you don't even want to search for good campaigns, then I guess you can get this.

I could be wrong but is it not a bit paranoid to be thinking that?

I myself saw the product in the shops and it does look cool. And if I didn't come here to this forum and learn that most of Operation Barbarossa is available for free then I could well have been tempted to purchase.

Trying to look on the bright side of things, is it not better to have add on packs in the shops for IL2? Would it not raise the profile of the game somewhat? Better to see an expansion pack than just Microsoft products which is all I saw in PC World last week?

Remember it was the expansion packs/mods for Half Life that made that game last so long.

Prior to a fast connection I played the original Barbarrossa, downloading it from the UBI Site I think,it was good if a trifle long, but then it was supposed to represent a campaign.
This retail version is I presume based on what was a free version mmm,
As has been stated above Mudmovers, amongst others have free campaigns, why not try their "Experten" campaign,or the JG 54 campaign,if you like shorter campaigns, there is the Fleet Air Arm,or the Real Deal, least I think thats what they are called forgive me if I havent got their titles exactly correct.
Finally thanks to the prople who take the time and have the patience, and the enthusiasm,to give us these goodies.

Also get the DCG or UQMG (or something like that) and do the same thing for free. And take that 20 bucks stick in the bank so when BoB comes out we dont have to see any post that your rig cant play in perfect mode /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Gee all that good advice about saving 20 bucks. Why then did we all blow 50 bucks on FB when IL-2 was prefectable fine and a better game??

justflight has been using the forums to shamelessly promote thier product to get suckers to buy and make them think new planes are included it even says it on thier box which is flase advertising. at least once a month a 4 new accounts post Has anyone tried this operation barbarossa pack it looks excellent

What the papers say

"The narrative and mission design combine to give an air of authenticity"
Recommended - Computer Pilot

"Graphics are jaw-dropping..night flights into storms have to be seen to be believed"
Metro 5 stars

"A real feast of missions to supplement the already strong campaign element of IL-2. This package will repay you in spades with some staggering new IL-2 experiences"
PC Pilot 4 stars

New features in this Special Edition

. New intro videos
. 20 new missions added including Leningrad and Lvov - now a staggering
250 missions to complete
. Mission Crimea utilises all new aircraft including Messerschmitt Bf109G-10,
Bf109G-14, Bf109K-4, Fw190A-9 and FW190D-9
. All new Forgotten Battles aircraft are included in all the dogfight maps
. Bonus - 9 new skins for P-47, Hurricane, Fw190A-8/9 and Bf109K-4

Im just letting people know they dont really need to buy it and that you can download thousands of top quality skins from www.il2skins.com (http://www.il2skins.com) and many missions campaigns from www.mudmovers.com (http://www.mudmovers.com) and theres no new aircraft in Operation barbarossa just skins and missions

alot of us like to contribute to the community for free and do better work then what justflight charges money for the same price as il2fb itself which is a hell of alot more work to create without a doubt.

Bought it last Weekend.

On third mission, so far so good, no problems.

Worth the $20.

You get some different challenges and a historical perspective.

Who's right/who's wrong?

I've spent hundreds of hours on missions for single player offline use. I've frequently spent days just working on one mission until I was satisfied with it. The Barbarossa campaign has many missions, which I'm sure took as long or longer to get right.

Don't be so hard on those guys for trying to make a buck, hopefully they'll make something off their effort.

They didn't have anything to work with. The IL2-FB FMB is a time waster tool of the first order.

All we continue to get from 1C:Maddox is fixes, aircraft, objects...and server tools. The FMB hasn't ever been improved and it's a joke. All the IL2-FB developers would have to do is provide mission builders the ability to place objects en masse and move them en masse to make a huge improvement in the FMB.

The Mission files are ini type files (text) and all it would take is a good interface to the data and mis files to build missions faster more efficiently. The issues an outside developer has to deal with are extremely time consuming to interpret and dig out of all the database elements used within the FMB. The IL2-FB developers have carte blanche access to all database objects for use in the FMB. They could greatly enhance the FMB tool right now and save Mission builders enormous amounts of time in building missions by just supplying a good mission editor tool.

So...I say the Operation Barbarossa developers probably won't even break even on their venture, that is, if they put any premium value on their time.

You may not agree with me now, but you'll sure change your thoughts if you seriously try to build a campaign close to equal to the Barbarossa with the IL2-FB full mission builder tool...Just build a few missions, you'll be astounded at the amount of time required.

So, give'm a break and don't complain until you've been a mission builder for awhile.

I own the Barbarossa campaign, and it's darn sure worth $20 US.

nearmis yes its descent but the maps dont even have that much work into them ground items etc they look like 10 min mis files. If you check out www.mudmovers.com (http://www.mudmovers.com) and download the missions there you can see how much time has been spent on them and they are such better quality,

I respect your opinion nearmis over the new accounts shamelessly promoting to buy it but do you really think it took as much as creating il2fb itself?

same price too

I dont respect 3rd party map and skin sellers because i do the work for free for the community and hope you can understand that and so do many others to better the communty because we like this game alot.

In cfs2 i respected grahams paul rebuffat and bruno duffort whos quality exceeded Aeroplane heaven, simflight, simtech, targetware and flight1 quality, I did buy a couple and returned them immediately I was astonished at the poor quality and will be against 3rd party grubs. At least with the the il2fb expansion we will be getting more then 10 flyable planes which with cockpits is around 20+ planes worth of work. I even donated to gibbage so im not hard up with money just know when i see something that is a rip off.

mask riders scenery DMZ and nibbos effects people like that make a community in cfs2 not people selling 1 plane for 20 bucks arent there for the love of the game just to screw people over and make a buck. Everyone entitled to thier own opinion and thats mine.

I'd say your right on this, but there is still a lot of work in just getting the timing of engagements and other objects where the player is a part of them. I've built many missions that were great to watch from outside views, but really stunk in the cockpit. It's another thing to get it right and exciting both ways...LOL

No way, I'm not going there except to say. The market for IL2-FB is huge compared to them selling a few campaign boxes. I remember buying a couple of those campaign add-ons by Abacus (something like that) for CFS2. Those were a darned joke. I just mean to say I think it's fine if they want to sell the Barbarossa I'd just like to see the IL2-FB development team realize that users Do want better missions, even to the point of paying for them

DUUUUUH, wonder if they'll figure that out. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

If they did get it, they'd do something with the FMB to make it easier and more complete for building great missions.

-------------------------------------------

- same price too -

----------------------

They've gotta get buyers to pay it, and the box ain't enough to sell it. I'd advise newbies to buy it, because it has a progressive approach to this simulator that will improve the player's ability with the IL2-FB.

THe QMB don't get it, that's sure. UberDemons mission builder will do a better job than the QMB.

There is a place for fee and for free. The Barbarossa was free for IL2 and everyone enjoyed it.

I've got a campaign I've been on now for months, and it'll be free for all to enjoy. Why, because I believe it is something I can do; to give something back. I appreciate all everyone has shared and done for me.
