I've purchased AC3 Deluxe Edition via Ubishop as a digital download. I'm downloading since yesterday (at only 120K/s) and I constantly get checksum and DZM error messages from the Ubisoft Downloader. It finally downloaded till 40% and then I restarted. After the restart, the downloader started from 0%. I've already opened 2 tickets with Ubisoft, but it seems they don't care for their customers and I haven't received any replies.

So my question is: can I download an "illegal" deluxe edition version and simply use my legal key to activate the product? Will everything work?

I would suggest against that - since you can never be sure of just what extra 'surprises' you get.. and the way they work, you can never be sure that you can enter a valid key.

Best to speak to Ubishop support directly, they maybe able to upgrade your order with the back up disc version for a small extra fee.

Isn't there any way to directly download the files from Ubisoft servers without this stupid Download Manager of theirs?

Just deaktivate your Antivirus Software... it works for me

Well disabling AV, Firewalls, making my router modem only does nothing... Its nothing but crap from Ubisoft yet again, if they just used Steam there would be no issues at all.

Disabled Windows firewall and ALL shields in Avast antivirus and no checksum failed errors anymore...

Win 8 Pro 64bit
