I request some of you lovely forumites to post your configuration .ini files located in your documents (in the AC3 folder).
I do this because I doubt Ubisoft will be answering my support question over the holidays and I want to see if I can fix this problem myself.

I'm going to post my configuration .ini file below so you know I'm not doing any funny business.

Game is both DX 10 and DX 11, maybe your settings are messed up in the AMD control panel

also read the god**** system specs, it says DIRECTX10 in the min sys requirements
how in the world could i be playing this game with a card that only goes up to 10.1? huh tell me that....
also your card is better than mine yet i'm the one playing with no problems,,, think about it O_o

..Why has no one jumped into their AC3 config file in their documents and just pasted it so I can trouble shoot. :l Seriously.
I meet the recomended specs by the way.

Can someone confirm that copy/pasting this fixes the FPS droping? I'm at work right now and can't test this!

Would be nice, but my copy of AC3 refuses to start in DX10! Perhaps because I'm on win7. Don't know how he could get it run with dx10.

I mean, it does start, but with settings reset, despite the read-only flag for the ini-file!

hey, if you got the amd catalyst center, you can turn down the quality of tesselation, with this setting it is able to play in 25 fps.

Anyone found the settings for the Sound? So you can change the sound device used for output. When I use FRAPS it's fine, because I can record both mic and windows sound. But when I stream anything in any game, I use Virtual Audio Cable so I can stream the real game audio + mic.

I changed DX from 11 to 10 and changed vsync to 0 and forcing vsync with d3d overider. Getting 30 - 40 fps in town. It's an improvement.

Guys Try enabling Adaptive V sync. im not sure if someone already suggested this but anyway

Remember to Disable in-game V sync it from the INI file on user documents folder

I enableed adaptive Vsync for AssassinsCreed3.exe and AC3SP.exe both cause i wasn't sure

Well i can definitely see an improvement in Boston and frontier areas

now my OCed GTX 670 is running at 80-99% load mostly
you can bearly notice the screen tearing when the FPS dips below 60 for personally i don't mind it

and yes use the new Nvidia Driver 310.70 WHQL ;)

it's stuck on the 13-something resolution on mine and it won't let me change it. I tried changing it to what others posted nothing happened.

I know it's an older thread, but I thought I chime in. I've started AC3 a while ago, but just now coming back to it (and with a better computer than before, but worse performance in AC3). So, I played around a little. If you use my config (only for the [Graphics] section, except maybe for the Adapter Vendor/Device IDs), you'll have no problems. Mine went away.

[Graphics_DX11]
AdapterVendorID=4318
AdapterDeviceID=4038
MonitorDesc=Generic PnP Monitor <--- Make sure you change this to what I have!
DisplayWidth=1920
DisplayHeight=1080
RefreshRate=60
MultiSampleType=2
VSync=0
EnvironmentQuality=2
TextureQuality=3
ShadowQuality=2
ReflectionQuality=2
CharacterQuality=2
DisableHairAniso=0
PostFX=1

Try these settings. Working like a charm without any drops. Whether you run with DX10 or DX11. Also VSync to 0 is fine. I simply enabled Adaptive VSync in my NVidia control panel. No screen tearing whatsoever.

There are no magic lines in config files, dont bother.

Changing [Graphics_DX11] to [Graphics_DX10] or anything else is silly. Game has only DX11 renderer and ignores every other section names. This is equal to deleting config file and running with default (lowest possible) settings. Ofc running with the lowest settings does improve the performance.

Correct, and I'm usually equally sceptical of these kind of config file changes, however, changing the line regarding the "MonitorDesc=" to "Generic PnP Monitor" from whatever random GUID string Ubisoft automatically places there, did stop any and all odd stuttering and frame drops on my machine (obviously surpassing the recommended requirements by now). Maximising the graphics settings before was impossible, now it works as it should and the game looks as best it can.

I don't know why this works, but it definitely helped my issues. Sometimes the result counts.
