reason:

2.Might be time bombed.
3.Maybe incomplete.
4.Weird silence from UBI.
5.Weird silence from the Mods.
6. German pranks.

It's all over the net now, but I agree with you. This isn't the first time it's happened!

If there's nothing posted by the mods about it by tonight I'll download it and try it, but only after backing up my IL2 folder....

Cheers, Spinner

I hope they release it officially soon. It's going to play havoc with all the online tournaments, forgotten skies etc if everyone's on different versions.

Wise spoken, SeaFire! I mean, I don't NEED the patch. I can wait as long as it takes.

Another thing - you get this pre-release version, install it and in a day or two the official patch is released. Then you have to install it all over again.

It's a wasit of time, IMO! Not to mention all the risks of screwing upp your perfectly working game. No thanks!

And in extreme cases (happened to me ONCE)

11. PC gets knackered by using BETA software.... not FB though.

So I will wait

GAU-8, unfortunatly I'd like if if point 9 on your list is true. I've always found the readmes sadly lacking in anything regarding an accurate list of fixes.

The silence of the mods and Ubi is kinda worrying as well.

Im not going to download anything thats not official.

I don't see the harm provided you make a back up of the FB folder first.

Personally I find the whole thing a little irksome. It would take less than 1 minute for someone from C1 to write a post saying "Patch delayed till [Insert day/date/approximate day/later/never]".

Then everyone wouldn't have their knickers in a twist. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif

This particualr patch, although not released by Ubi yet, is not a Beta version, so there will be no time bomb or anything bad happen. When you fire up the game it says version 2.02, if it were Beta, then it would say RC or Test somewhere. This version is safe but it may be slightly different than the one that finally comes out. There may have been a decision by 1C at the last minute to hold it pending a few more small changes. In which case all one would have to do is get the newer official one when it's released and overwrite this one. Anyone who has installed this version need not worry. The only problem will be that for now a certain portion of people will not be able to play online.

mortoma
06-15-2004, 08:42 AM
And besides, the fact that it has an official "readme" file proves it's authentic and not Beta.
Beta and Test version will never have a Readme. I'd post the readme but the moderators may get ticked off at me. It's not my place to go posting readme files.

Hi,

I saw that one second from the right in the kebab shop on Friday night, after a visit to the public house. He asked for a large doner with plenty of chili, walked out, walked back in again and asked for a can of Fanta cos the sauce was too hot.

Didn't strike me as being particularly hard - I reckon I could have them even if they turned up with some pals.

Cheers,
Norris

The world didn't end..

I figure if its time bombed as some have said, once the real patch comes out I'll just overwrite this with the new.. Eliminating such a problem..

The disclaimer UBI has on their site is just a CYA thing..

I recommend backing up the directory just in case and you should be good

In case your memory is short check the notes on the IL-2 news page archives, November 2003.

Quote:

"Note : This is the Public Beta version of the 1.2 patch. Please make sure to back-up your IL-2 directory and before applying the patch. To install, simply unzip the files to your IL-2 directory."

Just reviewed that archive page, and it's no suprise people 'cried like sissies'--the interpretation of many was probably that the patch would be not entirely stable as the time bomb issue was not explicitly mentioned. Even if a new patch wasn't entirely stable, I'd probably still install it and bear with any such problems, and I wager plenty of others thought the same. FB is a pretty hefty game to be backing up as well.

There's nothing wrong with the leaked patch, don't listen to seafire and his fear-mongering. Heck, they're saying it's been released to the Russian market already. Give it a go if you're curious. As others have said, the worst that could possibly happen is that you'd have to download the "official" patch when it comes out... and I bet we wont even have to do that.

I quite like the changes to the .50s and it's refreshing to see that 1C can surprise us once in a while by fixing old mistakes -- they don't do it often. Thumbs up to Oleg.
