It would be strange if they were left out!

Russian & Polish pilots used the ram technique and some of them were speciallized in it!
They would be considered Hero's by their own side becuase of their total offer.
Even some US aircrew that seem to have trown their bomber on a Japanese cruiser where Posthumously awarded the Medal of Honour!
The Germans when in serious trouble with the Allied air armada started using special Ramming Fighters who volunteerd for the job When they encountered The russian and polish Taran attacks in the Beginning of the War they thought it to be a Barbaric Tactic!

It is quit shocking to see how many Carriers where attacked by Kamikaze attacks Much greater then the big Material and physical damage they did to their targets (and themselfs!) was the psychologic effect it had on the Allied soldier & Sailor, many men broke under the tension.
Not all Japanese agreed to this fatal tactic
On one occasion a Japanese pilot volunteerd becuase all his comrades did, he tought it a great loss of life without sense he took off on his own Before the raid chrashing his A/C into the parked A/C of his comrades Saving their lives and protesting against Kamikaze missions.
Hero or traitor?
Who is to judge?

Wasn't sending a thousend crew on a ship loaded with A/C Fuel & Ammo Bombs, forming a prized target for submarines, bombs, mines, torpedos and Kamikaze a suicide mission?

That thing crossed my mind so I've posted a thread on this forum about training for career(missions). That way even Kamikaze career would be interesting to fly, but then you have to hit refly a few times... but hey who cares as long as they keep sinking. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

I understand the fascination with aircraft, tactics, skill etc.. but kamikaze? The only thing interesting about kamikazes's is the fact they were willing to give up their life... A life in the real world means something... A life in a simulated world means nothing... So why simulate it? By simulate it I mean you being the kamikaze... What are you giving up? Now if your talking about OFFLINE campaign where you are in the USN and defending against kamikazes's.. Now that would be understandable.. In that the fascination of aircraft, tactics, skill comes into play.. but being a kamakaze? Pffffffft!

I wouldn't mind winding up a IJN campaign by flying an Ohka through a screen of protecting fighters and into the side of a carrier.

At the very least, it would give closure.

Flydutch, methinks you underestimate the morale of the US Navy. Sure the Kamikaze attacks were a nerve wracking experience, but you need to read up my friend. In James Fahey's book "Pacific War Diary" he talks about the light cruiser "Montpelier" taking multiple Kami hits... they put out the fire, cleaned up the deck and went on. The ship was in every major Pacific battle of WW2 and fired more shells than any other US combatant. In fact the Five Inch Thirty Eights were retubed ELEVEN times. The eight inch tubes four times in four years. She was a fighting ship Lad. All the best, LongHorn

Longhorn,
Have you ever seen the national Geograph Documantary on the Carrier air war?
and the excelent docu's that Ballard made with the aid of Vets?

They will tell you how much their moral sunk when they where engaged with Kamikaze attacks don't forget your a sitting Duck on a ship! there is no way to run best you can do is try to hit that Kamikaze before it hit you!
Btw many sailors jumped over board when under attack even aware that the ship will keep on sailing while performing evasive manoeuvres to be a more difficult target,
When you hear Allied Vets talk about Kamikazes they will still more then 60 years after date become emotional disturbed.
Who can blame them!

No campaign nor missions as a kamikaze, just wouldn't be much fun.

But, you should be able to significantly hurt a ship by flying into it.

Also, there should be AI-kamikaze's. And consequently missions to stop kamikaze's. Scramble! Shoot down incoming kamikaze wave!

Sorry Dutchman, you are completely wrong. I served myself in the US Navy and believe me, when folks start shooting, US sailors get ANGRY! The DO NOT JUMP OVER THE SIDE OF THE SHIP, NEVER HAPPENED MY FRIEND, YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT AN URBAN MYTH <GGG.> All the best though, LongHorn

Sort of like the same 'guts' the classical orkest muscicians showed when the H.M.S.Titanic sunk?

(They kept playing untill submerged!)

yes I agree that what will be interesting if you will have the ability in PF to design a mission so that Japanese AI planes will actually perform a kamikaze if you want them to. Like now you can choose ground target, intercept, escort, would be cool to have a suicide setting.

not to be morbid or anything just to allow interesting game play

just read a book on kamikaze's. very interesting and good

there where field mods, stuff removed and bombs added.

kamikaze attacks where successful, but very rare the plane doing the sinking damage, most did a normal attack i think, but carried on into target, this caused damage.

and yes, i would like kamikaze missions, was a important part of japans defense

Kamikazis were apart of the war, they should also show how they were rounded up and sent to do thier duty. they should also show the propaganda apect and how it really was for the kamikazi if possible. The same with the b29 fire raids on japan and having the abomb for two missions.

they also should add the aluetians in as it was a part of the war. Im hoping PF will be very historical on both sides having all air battles and island support for troops.

If Ai kamikaze are allowed in the game then the US Navy ships will have to be updated. With radar and more AAA.
It may be best to leave them out for now . Since the CV Lexington is still in prewar layout. Would not seem fair.
If Late war USN ships are
added then let them enter the game.

Here a book on the subject .

I dont know why no one thinks an online squaddie of Kamikaze would be challengeing...

Lets say you get to rival squads in a co-op

You US pilots must defend your task force from an impending Kamikaze attack... you dont know from which direction so you must fly a CAP. The IJN forces are split with a few torp planes a few dive bombers a few fighters and... some KK's fully loaded with frags and fuel...BANZAI!!!!!

Then depending on how much percentage of the task force is destroyed points are awarded - then the squads switch sides...

If Kamikaze (pronounced Kah-me-kah-zeh) AI were instituted, US ships would get obliterated, even if AA was accurately modelled. Reason being that the japanese airplanes maneuver far too well at high speeds, and would be able to hit all their targets.

A lot of kamikaze missed because they entered a high speed dive, and couldn't pull up or adjust to hit the target. That's why you see a lot of airplanes simply plunging off target in WWII photage.

Kamikaze attacks were definitely demoralizing, no denying that--don't know about sailors going overboard. If they did it could be because the plane was heading straight into them. But demoralizing as it was, US crews were very efficient, especially in damage control.

I have alot of documentarys on the pacific both sides.

All the tapes show that there was no huge ceremonies where the emperor waves them off 1000s a giesha girls and fans waving them off.

It was young children 13-19 many of who volenteered, there was also alot forced into it. Theres a good documentary about kamakazis who survived on history international. They speak with all the pilots it seems to be running almost every night this month here.
