There was one mission against the Continental army the rest was against redcoats and also consisted of Connor pulling down British flags and replacing them with American ones. Not really nuetral is he? Connors story was really disappointing it wasn't Assassins versus Templars and it only got interesting at the last few missions with his father. I feel like Ubisoft lied to us

Compared to the Revolutionary war Connor was more involved in that and in sequence ten you were in a truce with the grand master of the Templars! hardly his sworn enemy. Then after the credits he finds out his land was sold and he is like "oh well" yet when the redcoats tried to do the same earlier he went and murdered everyone and everything

Of course he isnt neutral. If you play the game youll find out he kills anybody. I saw him kill one of his own people too, and he joins up with a Templar for a brief period, knowing he is a Templar.
