The speed of the Jug was one of its strong points as well, however it's not quite an "escape" tactic in FB. There are a few basic points of advice I can offer.

1. Climb to 3000+ (4000 is even better)

2. Maintain airspeed of 400kph+ in a fight

3. ALWAYS fly with a wingman

4. Shoot for the face http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yeah I think the main points are, never ever turn in combat, dont try to follow the bandit in a turn!
Also ALWAYS make sure you have the altitude advantage.. and finaly, fly with a wingman, I bet the Jug could go far in twos or threes and more.

Jug is a team fighter. So its hard to fight as a single pilot against the masses.

Best tactics is diving on your opponent from above and then climbing back for altitude. You can largely outmanuver or outspeed opponents at medium or high altitude. At low altitude, you are sunk. The best you can do there is fly fast and low and hope a friendly will clear your six.

Its a good tough fighter...but its not a Spitfire http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

toughness however means on ground attack nothing is more likely to see you rtb... even the IL2 cant go that fast. Jug is fast and tough. long as you get in and get your ordnance deployed in the first pass, and dont hang around in target area, you can quickyl achieve objectives on servers. especially great for Skip bombing ships, as it can take punishment and enable fast dive passes.

Hmm,

Neither a misser or a spit is a Jug. Robert S. Johnson could outfly both those birds in his P47. Be sure. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

When manuevering, be gentle on the stick. This bird loses lots of Energy if you pull back on the stick to the point where the plane shakes.

You need to learn to manage your energy, when to dive on an oponent, and when to get the hell out of doge lol.

Rolling sicors can sometimes help shake someone off your six. I can do it sometimes, but its risky.

Yep..Thunderbolt pretty much said it all. 4000-8000 meters and always fly with a wingman. Keep your speed at 400 kph and you can turn with alot of planes. If you get caught low....eitehr get altitude of run like hades for a friendly or home.

First, let me qualify by saying that I don't fly the Jug much in the game or online, but historically, the P-47 had a better than average roll, and RL proponents of the type (ie, most 8th AF aces prior to D-Day) used its already mentioned speed and the quick roll to make themselves a difficult target (well, as difficult a target as big as a barn could be).

Reversals at low altitude were rare; once your opponent is on your six at low altitude, your priority has to be escape, not victory. However, the ability to take a lot of hits(particularly from six o'clock) your speed and the ability to change directions (in small increments; you'll lose less E & he may not miss you by much, but he'll miss you if you're constantly changing direction in a random way), and finally, your greater range than most LW types should give you a chance to RTB.

cheers

If caught low you can also attempt a zoom climb if you have high speed (500+). Many planes don't have as much elevator authority as the P-47. Another tactic is to dodge, scissor, and barrel roll a lot. Since the 47 can take a huge amount of damage the enemy may well run out of ammo before they can shoot you down. That's not a joke.
