Smash_Swiper, I second what you said. Give it time.

BTW, what are the other 1000 types of people? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif Sorry, I just had to. Still a funny signature though!

Well, if either ATI or nVidia goes down we will ALL suffer. Without their competition video cards would still be out of sight expensive (I paid more for my first 4MB Voodoo card than I did for my 128 MB GeForceFX 5900SE), and we'd probably not have all the features they are using in GPU's now. Competition is good for us. Just look at Intel and AMD. Nuff said!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Very diplomatic, insightful and thoughtful, Maggotfeeder. I couldn't have said it better myself...and didn't!

Got to love how stupid people think. ATi will not "fall". ATi has always been a solid chip maker and I buy their GPU's over NVidia's any day. Why? They are simply higher quality.

lol, I had a Canopus 3d Voodoo, 6 meg card back in the day. It had 2 megs of memory just for textures, lol, it was the best back in the day. That was my first real 3d card, it ran Quake , Quake 2 and Thief pretty good lol. Half life was pretty rough though., I had after that an onboard ati rage 2d card and a voodoo2, then twin voodoo 2's, and many other cards between then and now. Im currently waiting for ATI's new card to come out, to see how that is. I might buy a 9800 pro to tide me over for a while though, im still debating it.
Allthough i doubt i will be able to afford the X800xt until its out of date, lol.

As for Nvidia killing ati, The 6800ultra doesnt even beat the 9800xt yet, for image quality, even though it will give you twice the frames. You cant really compare those cards anyway with the r420- x800pro and x800xt right around the corner. Those cards just might slaughter the 6800ultra. But we will know soon enough.

wow..............if only i could afford one... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

ATI 9200SE

You smell that? Do you smell that?... Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' **** body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end..." From Apocalypse Now.

All this talk is making me wanna shove the old Diamond Monster 2 combo back in. Oh yeah baby...that twin PCI action is tuff.

I think now that NVIDIA has a line of cards out with no shader problems, ATI's opengl performance is going to come back into the spotlight. As soon as Doom 3 hits the shelves, if ATI's OpenGL drivers aren't up to par there will be much nashing of teeth. As it is I can't play SoF II (not that I really want to it came free with my SB) at all on my 9800 pro. NWN's isn't as fast I would expect either.

I havnt done any research, but is this card available now?

Also, would it have any benficial factors if im running a system with hardware that's a year old?

I pledge loyalty to ATI! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

They have the best card i believe and just look at the Nvidia card its toobig for that much power. ATI made its 9800XT that beats the FX card and is ONLY 1 SLOT!

thats my 1 cent

My MSI FX5950VDT Ultra is only one slot, even with both massive heatsinks. I could put a card into the PCI slot next to the AGP, if I chose.

I don't because I don't need to, but I could...

I'm open-minded on video card brands, I've owned lots of different ones at different times, for different reasons. Next one may be an ATI, but that nVidia 6800 sure looks good right now, especially when they bring the uber model out with beefed up memory and clocks.

I do happen to like MSI's dynamic overclocking features, and with PCI Express, their next gen video cards (based on ATI or nVidia) are looking real sweet.

Only one way to say this. You're totally wrong. Nvidia has been being owned since DX9 came out and ATI will respond strong. Don't be niave and jump on nvidia's bandwagon just because they're the first to release the GPU that finally harnesses the potential of pixel pipelines.

Also look into other websites and they will tell you pretty much what I just said. Try this quote from Tom's Hardware (http://www20.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040414/geforce_6800-48.html):

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
With the NV40 alias GeForce 6800 Ultra, NVIDIA has produced an excellent product that will serve as the basis for an entire family. After the impressive performance we saw today, we have great expectations for the other cards as well. Now that NVIDIA has raised the standard in such a breathtaking way, we are all waiting with bated breath for ATi's answer in the shape of the R420, which will launch with either 12 or 16 pixel pipelines later this month."<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Why do people say things like "Nvidia rules dude!" or "ATI will pwn you!" I have Nvidia now, but I truly dont care who makes it, as long as its good. If Nvidia was utter ****, I would probably have an ATI card, and if ATI was **** I would ONLY consider getting Nvidia. I will say that I have tried cards from both those makers, and have had trouble with ATI and never Nvidia. Does that mean "ATI sucks"? Of course not. Just means from experience, Nvidia has worked better for me. The moment Nvidia screws up enough, I will most likely get an ATI card. Until then Im sticking with Nvidia, due to bad experiences with ATI, but I keep my options open. I mean, who supports a shoddy manufacturer of anything? Dont be a "fanboy" of anything, think for yourself and be an informed consumer.
