I am of course referring to the resolution of 1600x1200 at 8x anistropic filtering and x2 antialaising. My jaw has hit the floor again and no mistake.

I really do not need icons on now but I still need to do some tweaking with my geforce but so far I am gettting very smooth flights and fights without stutter or bad frame rates in campaign mode over Stallingrad (where I am testing as I tweak).

This game just became new to me again but more amazing I just learned I had not been pushing my system to its maximum.

The screenies are great Smoke, but can you please share your setup once your tweaks are finished. Eye candy is nice, but maintaining fps is key and it sounds like you're in the zone.

Thanks.

Well I could get hurt... Or I could scratch my paintwork and even if I bail I know what g00se likes to do to me when I'm in a parachute and it does not involve soap/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I'm suckered at the moment regardless. I am playing 2 campaigns and unlike online, a lot of the time its good to see the front lines change.

Well, call me a dunce, but how do I change the anisotropic filtering and antialiasing? When I run IL-2:FB Setup all I can change is resolution... What can I expect from an AMD XP 2000+, 512 Mb RAM, GF4 4600 128 Mb, 17" screen?

In FB at the main page, go into 'Hardware'. Click Video Modes. Pick your poison.

With higher resolutions (1600X1200) you get MUCH more detail. If your used to something like 800X600 things will look smaller (although it fills the screen) but it's beautiful.

Your computer's processor, video card and monitor all play a part. A slow processor, older video card or if your monitor does not support high resolutions you will have to settle for something lower.

Check your video cards settings (right click desktop, properties, settings) to find out it's max supported resolution and your monitors controls to find it's max settings and refresh rate.

You right click on your desktop left click properties, click settings tab, click advance, then click your card mines a Geforce4 ti 4200. Then go to preformance and quality setting. In there is were you can set your AA and ansiotopic settings.

I can play with Aniostropic filtering at 8x and Anti-aliasing 4x with Perfect settings at around 25 fps average SP /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif - I got 18 when playing my campaign though /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Online I only get around 16, but its still playable, no stutters and I'd certainly rather have these amazing graphics than a decent framerate - I can still get kills /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

My system I think isn't amazing (any more) - probably what would be considered only just above average for a gamer nowadays.

2gHz P4 (OC'd to 2.2)
1024mB DDR133 (I think this is my saviour /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif )
GF4 Ti4600

BUT! With my Flatscreen (NOT TFT) 17" moniter, I can only go up to 1280x1024 and since FB does not support this resolution I'm stuck with 1024x768, so... yeah, I'm a bit annoyed about that.

Oh well, maybe if I put the resolution up I would get even worse fps, so maybe its a blessing in disguise /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

You say your down to 16 fps. This should look pretty jerky. Surely during a fight the graphics on the ground isn't important. Smooth fps is much more important. You should save perfect for offline.

I found that anything below 24 fps for any length of time gave me eye strain of varying severity and as you know that will ruin the whole planned night of gaming.
I feel I can tie bad frame rates and eyestrain together because my monitor refreash rate is always always keep as high as possible.

I also dont think eye candy should stretch to perfect mode for single or multiplayer even with good fps because perfect is "the" resource hog and to my mind does not feel optimised but I am no programmer so I know nothing but my own opinion on such matters. As such I cannot justify the massive hit to frame rates with perfect mode initialised.

My advice and something I do is to only switch to perfect mode for those moments when you play back an ntrk for the purposes of taking screenshots of a delicious online moment.

16fps? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Graphics setting : excellent in 1024*768 32bit

Average 60fps in campaign and online servers.

Go down to 40fps when things get real busy.(firing, blast, battles over city, etc)

But I'm still hungry for fps cause low 40fps feels jerky.

16fps in perfect setting? How can you put up with it? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Perfect is not for current PCs. Wait six months or more. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Wait a second! Are you saying you can play on low settings, and make a track. Then when you play it back you can change the settings for a screenshot? Is this how guys are getting those good looking screenshots (Jag)?

Hmmm, 1600x1200 resolution you say? I'm currently running at 1152 resolution, 32 bit color, full graphics detail with a GeForce FX 5200 and great framerates...I'd run at a higher res but my monitor only supports resolutions up to 1280x1024. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

i have to question this because ive never seen a ti 4600 achieve such a thing. aa and af on a ti 4600 offers absolutly the worst performance. some im thinking the card has been oced like a mofo and heavily modified, better cooling, voltage modifications and etc. cause i had a 4600 before i got my 9700 pro, and it might be able to handl 1600x res fine, but not with that kind of aa and af.

1 Gig must be nice. i have RD ram so it's going to cost me a small fourtune to get this system upgraded. I'm running on a P4/262 RDRAM/Gforce2mx/mx400 card and the best i can get is slightly above med. grafix settings/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
no joy here.

Your setup sucks. I can choose all the way to 2048. Time to dig up your stash.

I can run as much resoution as the game will support, but I have a question. When I bumped my res WAY up (1600x1200x32 bit) it was necessary to resize my screen. Believe it or not, I do more with my puter than play FB and this res change/screen size adjustment thing is a real pain in the arse.

The question is multi-faceted: a) Is it necessary to resize the screen with every bump in res? b) Can I expect better performance if I also bump my refresh to 85 instead of 75? c) I know Oleg said the game was "optimized" to run at 1024x768, but If I change the res in-game and resize the screen, will I need to resize it back upon exit?

Once you change your resolution and fit the size of the monitor, you don't need to touch anything next time.
Resolution changes, and screen size will fit your monitor automatically until you change your Graphics card. I mean, monitor remember your previous setting in each resolution.

By the way, Did Oleg really said he optimized game performance on 1024*768?? That resolution is too jagged in 19" monitors. At leat above 1152*864, you can see the distant target's type, altitude, heading, etc.
I suck in 1024*768 cause I can't have time to judge distant targets. They come as large dot from a distance and become jagged large object all of a sudden. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif (Don't get me wrong, my graphics setting is excellent over 40fps. )

One more thing, monitor refresh rate has no relation to game performance. They just receive signals and show you the result at designated refresh rate. Generally, higher is better if your monitor can keep up with.

I am looking at one of the new GF fx's.
They really cut the mustard!

As for higher res my monitor only supports 75hz at 1024/768 so a new monitor is on the cards as well.

All this just for Il2? I need my freakin head read.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
