View Full Version : Question Re: 3D Quarters - Captain and Crew

Are the DEVs modeling the Captains Quarters in 3D as well? I would assume so as his quarter was right across from the radio and hydrophones.

Also I noticed that the video "seemed" to feature a Star Trek Bridge Commander style interface as far as being stuck in one spot and panning around 360 degrees. Is this so? Or do you have the ability to move around the sub - ala Medal of Honor Allied Assault during the Submarine mission?

I think it would be awesome if you could move around the sub like a normal person would. Even if in SH3 you can not do that yet, merely 360' panning. . it is still a step in the right direction.

Peace

Yes, I have finally seen the footage (dial-up modem hell). I did notice the Captain's Quarters, what am not completely sure about is whether one is merely stuck in place in the room, or can you move freely around. (Not merely 360 degree panning from a fixed point, but one where you can move around ala FPS style.

Thanks.

I believe its a fixed position. Its too easy to get knocked around if it were any other way. Nothing more fun than getting shoved or stuck in a cornor with AI running everywhere in the boat as its a mad rush to dive or abandon ship LOL! Im 99% sure we will be stuck in a fixed axis. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

i think the pathing of AI through the uboat would be fairly easy. it is pretty much a long tube afterall. animations through the hatches and bulkheads would be the toughest part. or going down to check the batteries.

and crew movements and animationsscould be totally scripted (every 48hrs 30min 15sec run check batteries sequence)(after torpedo fired, if torpedo available, run load torpedo sequence) (crash dive ordered, run crash dive sequence)i think the nature of submarine operations lends itself to these scripted sequences

i would love to see the whole uboat(with seperate type 2,7,9,21,23 models) in the manner of MetalGearSolid and Socom. Both games have excellent ladder climbing animations, and I think this would be very immersive.

you should be able to set your watches like you can set your lines in a video hockey game like NHL 2002 (my favorite).

and you should be able to change the look of each crewman like you can edit everyone on your team in Madden Football.

maybe in SilentHunter 4?

i think it would be really nice to walk around the sub as a "character", check damage for yourself and even the ability to get wounded or die, would let you feel more one off the crew, imho

I agree with all of you. I also would like to see all the crew moving in dives, etc.

Taken from the first live chat.

RedTerex): Will the player be able to 'walk' around inside the U-boat or will he be fixed?
(SH3DevTeam): Yes, the player will be able to walk around the boat, in certain locations: the command room, the radio/sonar room, the conning tower, the bridge. However, to be really efficient in controlling the boat, you will need to "jump" from station to station.

yip, thats what we saw in the video... click on the door and youre in the new section... but in my opinion "walking around" is something different... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

in the second they sayd this .

HB73): Have you decided yet if it will be possible to walk around the U-boat versus only be able to visit key areas?
(DevTeam): Not yet. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Walking around the entire sub should be an easy thing for them to incorporate. I hope they finaly decide to do it.

If you think about it the mapping of the inside of the sub is like 1000's of times smaller than any video games map and should not be a hassle.

They did it as an after thought in MOH !

I would definatly like that idea. I hope no AI gets in the way or could croud me in a corner in the heat of a battle. Damn that would be frustrating! If we were able to take on board saved crew members from another sub it could get crouded. walking around in the sub would be perfect... but i dont think that the dev team will change that...i guess the hole sub has to be modeled again, with new details etc.if they include that... i'm for 90% sure that they dont change this aspect.

actually very sad...

I don‚'t think they will change their mind either. As I‚'ve said before, much of the details seen inside the sub seem to be incorporated into the textures and not actually 3dimensional objects. Now that is all fine as long as the viewpoint never change. If however you where allowed to walk around and change your viewpoint freely, this computer-muscle saving trick wont work. And thus to get the same level of detail you will need a much more powerful computer.

On the other hand the computers today are powerful enough to make a very good true 3d interior anyhow so who knows.
