Has any of you seen a real life german U-boat?, i would like to go visit one someday.

I was disappointed to find out this is the only one in England. http://www.mikekemble.com/ww2/u534.html
Considering we had loads at the end of the war and blew them all up, we should of kept 1 prime example for future generations to see.

Well i supose this thing is better than nothing, and i think i will take a long drive north sometime this year, to look at a old rusty bucket. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif mmmmm Sounds sad i know.

I toured U-505, the captured Type IX on display in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, but it was way back in 1962. They do have a nice virtual tour online, but it's not the same, and Das Boot gives a better feel. It's been so long now that I really can't remember much about it, except that I was there.

I've toured a couple of the U.S. boats that are on display around the country.

Next time i'm in Germany i have to visit this, that sub is amazing and dosent look like it belongs to the ww2 era, it looks so futuristic.

I know some people were upset that this game is from the German side, but look this is why you can do so much more with a German U-boat sim, to that of the Allies.

One is U 995 type VII, displayed in Laboe, the other is U 2540 type XXI in Bremerhaven.
Check out the link below und you learn a little bit more about the german naval musuems and the uboat-freaks there! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

I visited U-534 in Liverpool about 18 months ago.
The first thing that struck me was the size of the thing..it was HUGE ! The bows nearly overhung the road !
My impression of U-boats has always been that maybe they are like the size of 3 or 4 semi truck trailers...er...no...forget it..they are as big a skyscraper lying on its side!
And to think that the Germans build a thousand of them of which 790 werre sunk many with all hands lost totaly bewilders me!!...big time !

All the colossal engineering, welding, pipes, nuts, bolts, steel, fittings etc etc..the actual quality and design and overall manufacture that went into these things is fantastic when you think about it.
And mostly done during wartime with bombing on factories by the allies etc it truly is a wonder of the world that so many of these VAST and complicated 'ships' were built.

And take the type XXI as seen from one of those links above..the sheer quality of them.

You know I'm British and I shouldnt be saying this but I drive a VW and Ive had a BMW 730sei and well they are built in Germany..need I say more !
The Germans have always known how to build stuff and do it right !

I have to say it..hats off to them !
