1. Do the newer Radeon cards run Perfect mode with good framerates?

2. What joysticks do you recommend for FB & AEP?

Currently, I have a Celeron 2.0GHz overclocked to 2.9GHz, 1GB of RAM and a Radeon 9600 with 256MB RAM. When I try to run Perfect mode on FB, I drops me down to about 3-5fps. When I try Perfect mode on AEP, my landscape disappears, and it leaves me with clear blue sky and all the planes, that is it. No ground, no nothing.

Thank you for any help you have to offer.

It depends a lot on the driver version you're using. All the same, the 9800pro I have can't quite run Perfect mode smoothly enough for me. And certainly not with antialiasing/anisotropic filtering. I have a faster system than yours, too. Sorry to disappoint you. Perhaps the X800 will finally manage it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

I've also heard that it is just something with ATI cards not able to run OpenGL right, or something.

My dad plays it on an old Athlon 1.4GHz, 700MB RAM and a GeForce4 Ti4400, and he is able to run Perfect mode pretty well.

I also have the antialiasing at 6x and the Anisotropic filtering at 16x. Love the detail it gives.

Ok, I should go to Google and look this up but I'm going to be lazy and ask you all.

I understand that AA is for smoothing jaggies, unless I've completely missed the point.

What's AF do for me? In terms of Forgotten Battles?

Cheers, Spinner

Joystick with "twist"rudder or a set of rudderpedals. The rudder is used frequently, also when aiming.

Have you tried running OpenGL and cat 4.1's? I have a 9700pro and I can run perfect with 4XFSAA and 8XAF at 1024X768 and the FPS hardly ever drops below 30 even in an AA barrage. With the 4.5's I get maybe 5FPS with the same settings and using DX (which is just a wrapper so no point using it) I get a good FPS until theres allot of action when it drops to nothing.

Until theres a definate performance increase I'll stick with the 4.1's cause they work the best.

Someone should make a sticky of PF Coasties guide for ATI users cause people are always saying they have a good ATI card but get **** FPS/Performance.

I just bought and installed a 9600XT and am using PF_Coasties settings. I run "Perfect" and get frames rates consistently in the 30's and 40's, depending on the action. Resetting the sound setup in IL2 Setup netted me another 10fps. Before changing those to Coasties recommendations, I was only getting fr's in the 20's and 30's. It's a great card. You need the correct drivers to run well in Perfect though. I use Cat 4.1 Then check Coasties site and you will be happy with the results. Good luck. S!

I would advise cuation on twist stick rudder inputs.

How, exactly, can I apply right full rudder while pulling back and rolling left, with a twist stick?

The hardware is limiting. many folks despise rudder rockers on a throttle, but hey, at least it's physically possible for me to use it. I've tried forcing my wrist through my ribcage to perform the manuever I described above, but my wrist is too dull and my ribs are too hard http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
