Well, a squad mate came up with the idea that we should start a recruitment drive aimed at the fairer sex. It sounded like an interesting proposal.

But then I got to wondering as to how many female pilots existed in the IL-2 world.

I know of 3 who post on these forums (at least, these are those I know to be females):

Kikka, MissKitty, and Bilfish.

And I only know of one squad with a healthy population of female pilots (although, I have no idea if the squad is still active):

The Virtual WASPS Flying Club (http://www.geocities.com/firstwasp/WASP.html)

This squad had at least 10 members, all women.

I just wondered how many women do actually fly this sim on a regular basis.

whit ye looking at, ya big jessie?!?!

I suspect women are rare though.

I heard of a transvestite squad or (clan? )playing another game. It would be cool with one of those in fb.

Another thing on my wishlist, a kiddie squadron? Atleast they could go to mama for comfort when shot down. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

At work we used to have a girl who`d join us in football... It was nice. At first we were all very careful and gentlemanly about the game...

But then the old `man-thing` aggression would begin and we`d forget about the girl in our attempts to beat the other side.

Unfortunately, one day one of the opposing side got a bit TOO aggresive and kicked the ball in her face! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif We apologised profusely, etc, etc...

But she never played agin...

Er....Off Topic???

I do not think so redstorm!!

Read the thread......(I started the thread, so I should know if it's off topic).....I asked whether there were any female IL-2 virtual pilots who were active within the community (sorta anyway) other than the ones I mentioned.

Now, judging by your use of grammar and syntax, I would assume that english is either your first language, or you are at the very least rather proficient in it's use. That would lead me to assume that you are able to comprehend the original question and intent of such a subject being broached by actually reading, understanding, and considering the subject before posting your own opinion.

However, judging by the fact you find the content to be of a nature not suited to this arena, I can only assume that you are stoopid!!!!!

A good tip for anyone on this board (and I am sure I am guilty of not doing this myself!!!) is to actually READ THE SODDING THREAD BEFORE POSTING YER TROLLING AND FLAMING REMARKS!!!!!

I like women. I married one.

Remember that Russia had female fighter pilots in WWII? Also, the USA had pilots that were female shuttle pilots.

Females are, as was posted, not as visible here, and I don't blame them. They are in the minority, and although I am sure that they enjoy being treated like ladies, they don't need the **** that comes from some of our more hormonal males. They are here to play the game, and talk about it . . . not to be hit on.

I have always liked planes/jets. My father and brothers were always talking about planes/jets we I was a kid. I also read about some of the American women that flew the finished planes to rally points during the war. When my father saw that I was interested he encouraged it.

I really got IL-2 because I knew that some Russian women flew during the war. I was hoping they were included in the game since it was so historically based. My brother has LAN parties for his friends and I just joined in one day. "Most" of the guys accepted me from the start. Why do people always turn these into a fight? There are quite a few female pilots I know that fly online and I for one deliberately do not mention who they are as it all seems to degrade down into a tit for tat verbal bashing in the forum, I do not blame them for not advertising the fact..

Does it matter what gender anyone is ..... nope.

Do I care that the person shooting me down is Female, Male, 7 yrs old or 99 yrs old or the pet cat playing with their owners PC when they are not there, nope.....( errrr, well yes the cat would be the last straw http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

As long as i get a chance to enjoy myself online, and bring a little pleasure to others shooting me down whilst myself I have a good game then the rest is just superflous.....

Aero_Shodanjo

I do think, however, it's safe to assume that most - if not all - of us, male or female, attracted in playing IL2 (or any other combat flight sim) for reasons like these:

1. childhood interest (or family background)
2. history (and the thrill of feeling like we're experienced what it really was)
3. etc...

IMHO, the more I think of it the more clear it gets that there are actually no such things as a man's only job or vice versa.

Heck, even in one area where i live women arent shy to do tough jobs such as construction workers.

lol Baldie.

I think it's awesome that women get involved in this sort of stuff.

We all share a common interest, and thats enough reason to talk to anyone here, male or female. But It's abit of a Poor Show that women have to resort to keeping quiet about thier gender to keep from recieving indecent proposals.

Well, all I can say is a little like my analogy with the football. If a woman wants to play the boy`s games she`s just got to get tough enough to take the rough as well as the smooth. The football hits us all in the face sometimes and I`m sure the Russian girls in WWII could tell us a few stories of indecent proposals while waiting to take on another sortie.

But they were TOUGH enough to go out there be seen and deal with it. It`s reality. Men will be men, part of the way men is what makes them able to FIGHT!

I myself, would not do such a thing if she was obvously uncomfortable, but should a woman hide away? Afraid? I don`t think so.

As for the limited number of girls in Flight sims... Well the way I see it, it`s kinda historical and does reflect the greater predominance of men to like violent things of war as opposed to women who are less prone to.

I might be stirring up a WASP's nest here, but I read a book on the differences between men and womens behaviour and much of this is explained by examining their brains. The book, written by an american couple of psychologist, was (translated from norvegian) "Why men can't communicate and women can't read maps" or something. Long time since I read it.

It stated among other things that most women are not very good at thinking i 3 dimensions. As a result of this most women don't like doing things that include a lot of that, like flying for instance. As an example, they said that no western airline has any policy that rule out women as their pilots, but still there is only 1.5% female commercial pilots in the western world today. Among air traffic controllers the number is 0.5% females.

So, maybe this kind of game only apply to a small amount of women, due to their brains.

The area where women really excells, are on communication. They can communicate on so many more ways than men, who usually use words. Think of a womans ability to give looks that kills... no man can really do that. (Unless you have a helmet mounted sight, of course..) And womens ability to come into a room with a couple of persons and sense that the two have been arguing, even noone has said a word since she came in... women are hard to figure out..

Coincidentally, when I was in Art School, my Lecturer took me aside and also told me this. He said in his many years of teaching, he`s only found a very limited number of women who could naturally see in `3 dimensions` when drawing/painting on a 2 dimensional surface.

The writers of that book stressed heavily that the facts where to be considered as the statement "Men are taller than women". You will allways find women that are taller than men, but on the whole, thats a true argument.

The book also said that mens brains are ca. 10% larger than womens, but women score 3% higher than men on IQ-tests....

This film is about the all female russian fighter regiment in the GPW.

I'd love to fly a historical night witches campaign!!! That's why I am hoping that those russian guys get the U2VS finished!!!!

Being able to replicate those missions where they would actually switch off their engines, and glide to the target at 100m in the pitch black, and drop on enemy troop formations.

Or using the same tactics of 3 U2VS flying into the target with the first a/c ditracting the flak, and the other 2 would sneak in and drop, and then they would swap roles until all of them had dropped, then they'd go back and do it all again!!

These pilots would sometimes fly 15+ sorties in one night!!!!!

The 588th Night Bomber Regiment completed a total of (numbers are from memory, so excuse any inaccuracies http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ) 24,000 sorties, dropping a total of 23,000 tons of bombs on the enemy, and they were involved in the final assault on Berlin. This regiment also produced 23 recipients of the Hero of the Soviet Union gold star!!

If my memory serves me right, when Il2 was still in the concept/development stage (when all we had was CFS), there was a woman very active in the combat flight sim (no caps intentional) community who was involved in the background work for Il2. I believe she was involved in either a virtual squadron based on the 'night witches' or in an historical/homage site dedicated to the same. She went by the screen name of Debbie Diamond and moderated at least one flight sim forum.

Well I originaly started this mess by suggesting to Tooz that as the VVS realy had women pilots it would be historicaly authentic if we set up a womens flight within the squad.

Also I have flown against some women online and they are good and very very ruthless - just what we need!

Anyway - the majority of the above posts do not prove that there are very few women sim pilots - it just proves that a female would be unwise to post in this forum with a feminine login and/or sig.

So I still think we should set up a female flight which can run itself autonomously within the squadron structure and the objective behind it is to trash even more AXIS tanks, planes and bases than we can at the moment.

We already have more than our share of pin-ups (click-on my sig to visit) - what we need are killers!

All jokes aside, and that includes pictures, there are lots of ladies flying you just can't tell who they are. Their handles will not give them away and if they are referenced as a male they will never let you know different.
Unfortunately within the flying rooms men have not been able to accept the fact that ladies can out fly them. The sad fact is, when a man is shot down by a lady the man takes it very personally and the female pilot will be pushed out of the room. The fact that the female pilot can out fly most men in the room does not count. Too bad, what ever happened to being equal?
One other thing and I speak from experience. For most men out there flying there is a woman behind the scenes keeping their computers going and their simulators up-to-date. I can fly as good as my husband for all the testing I do. I am just not interested in getting too involved; my time is spent doing many other things.
Fact is for all you young fellows typing these messages you do not know what the hec you are talking about. IF IT WASN'T FOR A WOMAN YOU WOULD NOT BE FLYING. Be it your partner or your Mommy.
Happy flying and keep watching the skies. You never know who is watching you.

Russians often brought the captured German flyers to meet the person/personette who shot them down. Many times Germans did not believe they were shot down by a woman, until she described the Event in great detail.

Huh. I don't mind at all fighting and/or getting shot up by women. Back when I was playing UT2K3 I met another player on a server and about 2-3 hours in it slipped that she was a girl. No biggie at all. We had quite the lovely time shooting each other in the face with rockets for several more hours, and I was pleasantly suprised that she kept pace with me quite well.

(Not bragging here, but I consider myself a B+ UT player, in that I can beat around 85% of the 2K3 players I run into, and really stomp the living hell out of about 50%)
So anyway, she gave me a good run for the money all the time, Beat me a few, and handed me my @$$ maybe twice. It was fun. I like female players because they are less egotistical and "STFU U n00b" than more "normal" players I end up with.

The other place you'll run into a lot more female players is on NWN and other RPG type games. A lot of them are stay-at-home moms playing on their offtime.

Anyway, there are a lot of females in many genres, and I for one am glad to have them. Gaming it's about strength, brawn or endurance, it's about reflexes, coordination, mental acuity, strategy and to some extent, pure killer instinct.

This applies everywhere, and especially in flight sims.

I really don't understand the whole "beat by a woman" ego-trip, because in the world we play and fight in, it makes no difference. (I suppose IRL, and back then, it could have been quite a blow, though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

ATM women gamers are sort of a rare breed to come across, and as such, they get a lot of attention. Most of it is positive, at least.

Oops. I've written an essay... Sorry about that. Gotta go.

I can vouch for NWN, I play online every once in a while and there are quite a few female that play it. Maybe they like MMORPGs better.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

ahh, _VR_ScorpionWorm, I play NWN too and it does have a lot of women. But why? Look a little closer... I don`t know if it`s the same with other online roleplaying games, but there does seem to be a lot of sitting around and waffling! It`s also more ... personal in a strange way.

It`s like a sort of meeting house. Perhaps this appeals to the females more? there certainly seems to be more waffle than fighting on some servers! imho!

p.s A lot them are also boys playing out `girlie` fantasies too! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Not to be the cynic here.. but are you on voice comms with these NWN women or on text only? I really hope I don't have to explain the horrors of lurking 40-something-year-old fat guys with hygeine issues that purport themselves as cute girlies on the internet, do I?

Yea, Turo, I know...

I`ve only recently started on NWN cos some of my online m8s insisted. But it`s pretty obvious to tell the dodgy `girly boys`. There`s no doubt to me that a few are really female... We have one on Teamspeak. First time I ever bumped into a confirmed female online in my years of game play!

Not sure if I`ll stick with NWN long, but it`s a nice change from FB and the forums!!

Most guys play those rpg-style games as girls because geeks think they might cyber-score if they give Ms. Dude lots of free stuff.

Try playing any online game with a girls name and see how it works out for you. Maybe after you get some perspective, you'll stop worrying about who you are playing with and just play.

Well, I dont visit the deathmatch rooms for NWN, just the roleplaying rooms. I rather roleplaying than just 'my sword is bigger than yours' quake thing. Using voicecomms wouldnt really work too well in NWN, chatting is something you do outside the game, you have 'emotes' to describe how you feel, or you can assing your own 'macro text'....but this is getting off topic, it is a good scenery change once in a while.

If you need to PM me about some personal issue, feel free.

EDIT: I think you mistook my post as being soley related to your remarks. They are not. They are in the spirit of the theme of this thread: girls and games. If you took offense to that, I am sorry, but you aren't going to treat me so disrespectfully.

There are a few women who play on line, some of them quite good (Billfish -- "Wielder of the Iron Skillet, Tamer of Husbands" according to her sig -- has killed me many times, with a 109, not a frying pan http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

What I find humorous is how many of the male pilots act when they are around. You could catch diabetes from all the sweetness.

One of my regular wingmen keeps asking me for French compliments so he can toss bouquets at DR-catwoman, who speaks very little English.

The hilarious part isn't the women, it's how the men react to them. Just sit back and watch the chatter http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

> Men dont like to be beaten by woman.

Well, it depends...oh you were talking about IL-2? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

OK, i must admit that yesterday it happened in the no icons, no padlock etc. FIN/RUS -dogfight. A German girl wiped me off the sky. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif It was really funny actually. We already collided with her twice before this and we were joking about it. I was thinking that "well next time I get her". Then something went terribly wrong. Until then we had a good day in the Finnish side and I and the host were generally wiping the sky off "Russins" one after another. Then suddenly during a furball I see him getting killed by a YAK and turn to revenge his death. Next thing i am hit to my left wing and my plane wants to turn to that side. Then hit to right wing and I think: "nice, now the plane is better to fly". I only fly for another 10 sec and then I am hit badly and ditch to the lake. I was thinking that "what the hell just happened?" when Ms S says: "hahaa! I just wiped the Brewster aces both off the sky with one pass!!". The reality then dawns on me, I've been easily killed by a girl. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Could only smile, good kills. Of course more joking followed. We didn't have a chance to take a rematch as she had to quit but a very good 1st impression of a female pilot. Good job S! Vielen danke auf der grosse spanking http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

(hope she really was a girl so my fantasies stay intact http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )

If I get beaten by a woman its justice...

If I beat a woman is domestic violence...

Go figure!

Though I don't know about FB I can still say the only sport a girl has never beaten me at is billiards!!! (Not counting one 8ball scratch) Bring it on!

At first, being defeated by a woman may be slightly humiliating, yes. But when you think about it, in the real world women have a very good opportunity to become much better fighter pilots than men simply due to how they are built. G's are more easily taken by women due to their smaller frames. This also plays a role in hand to hand. At the dojo I attend, there are several female black belts, some of them incredibly good fighters. But what seems to come much more naturally to them is flexibility. Right now I have difficulty simply getting a side snap kick head-level. While Sensei Jennifer could bloody well take my head off, and i'm 6'5" 210lbs. If she plants a roundhouse kick on my temple or jaw, chances are i'm going down, and hard. Some women are exceptional fighters, whether it be in a dojo or in the sky.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill
