If someone could post a short track showing how to do a Vector Roll I'd be very appreciative.

Send me a private message if you don't have a place to upload.

"The most spectacular manouevre in the display is a high angle-of-attack vector roll, almost a flick roll, continued into a Derry Turn. Named the "Turning Screw" after its inventors, test pilots John Turner and Chris Worning, it is an amazing figure for a large jet aircraft to perform.

The Eurofighter test programme is accelerating as the date for entry into service with the RAF and the air forces of the partner nations, Germany, Italy and Spain, draws nearer. The test programme is ahead of schedule in all important areas. The EJ200 engine and ECR-90 radar came in for particular praise as extremely reliable pieces of equipment that can perform far beyond their design specifications.

02 September 1998"

Sounds like a vertical roll maybe?

Does anyone know how to do it?

A short track using it against tight-turner (for reference) is all that is required.

A good e-fighter using a vertical manuver can cut the corner on a turner by changing his vector out of a vertical climb.

For example. Start climb facing North. When vertical, roll aircraft to change lift vector, i.e. top of canopy to East (for example). Pull over the loop and essentially do an immelman by rolling out, but now with the vertical roll you have changed direction of flight.

BaldieJr,

The closest I could get to the Vector Roll Attack is on a file that is now being sent to Michapma's web page here:

IL2 Guide (http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~chapman/il2guide/tracks.htm)

My track file is done on-line with an TA-152 vs a P-38L.

The part that works in this track file concerns the view or tracking of the target during the manuever.

I'm flying along tracking a P-38 at low 10 oclock. The P-38 turns under my nose.
I see the turn and start a pitch up and roll left (opposite the P-38s right turn).
Keeping the target in sight my roll continues inverted; now my plane is outside the targets turn. At this time my track file is not quite a vector roll because I ease off the elevator to get more room to split S on the target.

I've really tried to get a good representation of the Vector Roll as I understand it, however it is not a maneuver that blends well in my typical hit and run flying tactics. It is also a diffuclt thing to reproduce using A.I.

Anyway I hope you can find my track file useful if Mike chooses to post it on his page.

There was another thread here about it, and someone had a very nice diagram in his post. Do a search!

If I recall, a vector roll is something like a split-s, except you climb _away_ from the turn, then kind of split-s back. It's a way to out-turn someone who normally out-turns you.

The same thing as a lag-displacement roll. (Found the thread)

Trailing a bandit. He breaks hard.
You roll opposite the bandits turn, and roll out outside his turn in lag pursuit.

A vector roll is a small, bread-like confection rendered in Adobe Illustrator.

You must use the bezier tool to correctly render the vector roll.

....Sorry..a little Graphic Designer humor there..

*mumbles and then goes back to work*

JG14_Josf,

Thanks for that link. Good stuff there.

I don't know if anyone is aware of this, but if you record an ntrk with the ingame radio set to "common" channel, the speech is in the track file.

Something to think about when making training tracks.

Ironhand (i think?) adds voice to his lomac training tracks and I gotta tell ya, it really helps to be able to watch the track and hear the desription rather than pause to read some text.

BaldieJr,

Thanks for that information.

I can imagine the possibilities of adding voice communication to training track files.

If you have anymore information on that track file voice addition technique then consider, please, sending it to Michapma for his IL2 Guide.

I will need to figure out how to add voice to track files based upon your post only. Currently I use TeamSpeak from voice comms. The in game voice thing seemed only to cause lag during those times I forgot to turn it off.

A super-fast howto:

Enable in-game coms. Test it, retest it, and double test it. Its not great, but you can get 'good enough' sound out of it with proper mic adjustment.

Bind a key to PTT (Its called "Radio Mute Key").
Bind a key to change channels (titled "Radio channels switch").
Once in a network game (probably works for coops so you should be able to talk while fighting AI) switch to the common channel, start recording the track, and try talking.

I made a quick test once to verify operation, but never recorded any training tracks.

The audio isn't the best, but i'd rather have low-quality voice over good-quality text any day http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
