Could somebody tell me what the benefits of the different patches for IL2 would be?I think the game is fine the way it is.

OK, I tried to post part of the readme's, but I guess it's too big. If you want new maps, 3 new flyable planes, and to play online, then you need the patch.

P-51D-5
- Ki-84-1a
- A6M5a

It also tweaks some of the a/c flight models.

Good hunting,

BOOM! Yeah, Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up. See this? This is my T-Bolt!! It's has 8 .50cals and 2000lbs+ worth of bombs and rockets. Republic's top of the line. You can find this in the Kick A$$ department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Farmingdale, Long Island and Evansville, Indiana. Retails for about $82,997.95. It's got a turbo-supercharger, all metal control surfaces with blunt nosed ailerons, and a hair trigger. That's right, shop smart, shop Republic. YOU GOT THAT!? New planes; bug fixes.

Like when the P-40 would blow up if you put it under negative Gs.

If you are talking about either the original IL2, or IL2 Forgotten Battles, then you must understand that the developer, 1C Maddox, has gone beyond the call of duty for the customers. Patches for other games mean simply "fixes", but we have been blessed by having what other companies make into paid addons given to us for free. We are so spoiled that some of us even have the nerve to complain about it.

Get the patches.

Another big factor in the creation of patches for IL2 was the accuracy of the flight modelling used for the various planes. Many felt that things were not quite historically correct, more investigation was done, changes made and new FM's were created, eventually leading to a major rework of the entire game that resulted in the creation of Forgotten Battles.

If you like the game the way it is without patches, then by all means enjoy it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The other huge factor is online play.... you cant do it if you arent patched..at least not with anybody else because everone is patched. The patches give us for the most part improved FMs,DMs,AI,Net play etc. This sim is way different from the original out of the box sim at this point.

First of all...welcome.
As for the patches, make sure you follow the installation instructions exactly. Unless you want to add custom voice packs, such as the BBQ voice pack, there is no need to use the 1.2ov patch.

If you're using the training tracks, wait to patch until you're done. Patches above 1.03 use a different FM and "break" the training tracks.
For complete info on the IL-2 Sturmovik patches and what they do, be sure to read the ReadMe files for each patch first.

Hope this helps.

Ok this patch thing is more complicated than I thought.I was at 3dgamers and there is a IL2 patch version 1.1a exe
This has all the latest upgrades that have been released before.I have the original IL2 box version. The way I understand it is I download this 1.1a patch and I,m set.
I just wanna make sure I got it right.
Now that being said, once I download the patch, what do I do?Is it automatically applied to the game or do I need to do something?
Also,I was pleased to discover that there is an English voice patch.

For the original IL2 Sturmovik:

1.1a (about 75MB)
1.2 (about 28MB IIRC)

Optional: 1.2ov (about 38MB) is only required if you wish to use the 3rd party voice files for AI pilot voices. If you wish to have this feature, you will need both the other patches for other included features to work correctly.

Thanks Tully.
Any idea how long it takes to download 75MB with the old fashioned slow dial-up connection?

This decision was based on the communites' info.
Thanks,SC

3DGamers and at least one other site that mirror Ubi game patches offer a mail order CD version of all the patches for a modest fee. You might consider that option.

I believe the fee is per CD, not per patch so it may pay to hunt through your game collection for any other patches you might get them to squeeze on the same CD http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
