I have been flying bf110 lately(a lot) and something is wrong with tailgunners sights.

Sometimes bullets go where you are aiming, but when you have moved MG:s few times left and right tracers wont go in to the same direction where you are aiming. Or is it just me?

And second thing:
fw190 pilots seat is too low. 190 was flying "nose down" and view was better. Even Closterman(French ace) said so in his book. But I might be wrong. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Levola, the reason why the bullets go seemingly off-course is because the actual guns rotate farther than the pilot can.

Simply speaking, the rear gunner meets the side of the cockpit but the gun keeps rotating. Its obviously makes shooting more difficult as you can't aim down the length of the gun, but thats the way it was.

You can also see this effect on the HE-111 bomber, if you man the nose turret and try aiming the gun all the way to the left. He runs out of head-room. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Did Pierre Closterman ever fly a FW190? He flew Spitfires and Tempests as far as I recall.

By now, you guys have to know that Ivan has a red light on a pager that alerts him to when the word "View" and the number "190" are used in the same post. I suggest we code name it by use of a chart. Say, on Mondays 190 is changed to a fruit, like banana, and view is changed to a color like purple.

Then you could say, "The Purple Banana should be nose down." See how innocent that would be?

And you wouldnt receive the whoopin stick from Ivan.

You are right about the purple banana but the moustache said that the purple banana will never become green as the moustache doesn't want to cut parts of the banana. Little Red riding hood started many many menues about purple banana but moustache sent Jumping Tortilla to stop any menue about purple banana. so sssshhhhhhh! don't tell anybody....this message will self-destruct in 5 seconds.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif Ok lets stay on bf110 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I know that the gun(s) turns more than gunner, but when you aiming full right or left and then back to 6 oÔ┬┤clock bullets wont go wher you are aiming. Or maybe it is the beer http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif
I have to try it again tonight, after work.

And sec. thing... does the gun convergence work with tailguns as well? I mean if target is your six 500m and converg. set to 150m bullets will go under the target.

Lets all have a nice weekend. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Bullets hardly ever go where you aim. It's the beer -- and ballistics. Don't forget that you're shooting backwards from an aircraft that moves forward. That means that the rules for deflection shooting are not the ones that you've learned when you were firing the aircraft's forward pointing main guns.

Hi,

I think they must have had Stevie Wonder sorting out the views for LW aircraft.

The Bf110 forward view is as bad as the rear view in that rockets and the 37mm cannon don't fire where you expect them to.

As for the 190 view....

Cheers,
Norris

Been discussed already:

BK3.7 was a mistake and will be corrected
German "rockets" work in a different way. 700 to 750 meters distance, not possible to use convergence. Don't shoot at bombers but into the middle of the formation. they are AA granates not real rockets. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
