To pre-order or not to pre-order, that is the question. Given the problems with Uru and taxes/duties when shipping to Canada, not sure if I'm going to try it again. I'll wait and see what goodies they'll include before deciding.

I'll definitely pre-order a copy closer to the time. I mean, why not? I know I'll be buying it the instant it comes out anyway http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif so might as well, eh? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ours, too. How many of you can say "Klaatu barada nikto" to your spouse and not get laughed at?

This is completely off topic so I'll post and then run for cover. Did you hear Tom Cruise and Spielberg are working on a remake of War of the Worlds?? Wouldn't surprise me if Spielberg eventually does The Day the Earth Stood Still. It's listed as one of his favorite films. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/353.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

Thanks all! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I have been channelling the spirit of Gort for some time now!
My wife HATES T.D.T.E.S.S. (as the movie is known to hardcore fans) since I've watched it about 300 times in my life. I can't even fathom a possible remake of it. Some things are better left alone.

Topic? What topic? Where can I pre-order MYST 4 already? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I don't think I'll be pre-ordering anything from Ubi ever again after what happened with Uru.

I'll most likley just wait for it to show up in stores, maybe even wait for a discount to hit.

I'll be purchasing it from my local store.

I will never order something direct from Ubi again. Local stores here had the Uru title a complete WEEK before the pre-order was received.

URU was held up because of the addition of the 10th Anniversary DVD collection that was included with the preorders. I would hope that Ubi does not let something like that happen again. Regardless, buying from a local shop supports your local economy so it is a good thing. Don't give all the profits to Ubi, spread it around!

Maz, did you remember what i said back befor URU was shipped. If not i will let others know again.

Stores will get it the day of or the day after launch mostly because distributers will have them to the retailers in time(or sooner depending on the mode of transpertation). If your ordering from a online source expect the game to get to you later because they are not set up like a distributor and will take time to process your order, and even later if they get to many orders and have no games to send out.

Im not saying that shopping online for a game is bad, but from experiance in the retail business. You will see your game get to you later than the stores get them.

i keep checking Amazon.co.uk for any mention of Myst IV for pre-order as they always have a good list of furture releases, but no mention of it yet (or Path of the Shell). I don't mind ordering online and it arriving a couple of days late, over the years that I've been shopping with Amazon things have usually arrived either the day after it's release or on the actual day. It's not been a real major problem.

These were my thoughts exactly. Despite the reasons why Uru was delayed, their customer service regarding it was abysmal as well. The only reply I got to my complaint back in November was to the effect that "these delays are normal and unavoidable." Well, if that's normal for Ubi, I'll do precisely what I said in my complaint and not order directly from them in the future. Seems it is avoidable after all...

As an aside: The only nice thing that I can say about getting it through Ubi is that I seem to have gotten the German/French Language version, while those who purchased it here from U.S. retailers got one with Spanish/Italian. I just found out about this today; I hadn't really thought about it before.

Ubi actually ate quite a bit of money by bumping a lot of Uru orders up to next day air shipping at no extra charge once they actually got the boxes into the shipping warehouse. I won't deny I was rather miffed at the pre-order complications, but they did do what they could to get things out as quickly as possible once they actually *had* units to ship.

They also gave $10 vouchers to anyone who complained in writing.

When I heard that at the time I complained to ubi. After a week or so when I didn't receive a response, I complained about not getting a response to my first complaint. I ended up with 2x$10 vouchers (one for each complaint) which I then used to pre-order Prince of Persia.

When PoP was realeased I received it in a timely manner and was very happy. Yes there was a major mess up with the Uru pre-orders but imo Ubi customer service did the best they could in a bad situation and my experiences since then have been good.

Having said that, I want a copy of Revelation in my grubby little paws the second it hits the shelf http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif So I will be at my local store jsut before they open, banging on the door for them to let me in. Heck I would even stock the shelves for them, if it would help me get it sooner http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yo' Big Buddy. Let me start by prefacing this with the fact that I'm drunk, tired, and freshly fed.

Now, with that out of the way. That's all fine and dandy. But Ubi actually took my package which was already ordered with 2nd day air and dropped it to a ground rate package. It took mine an additional week on top of being sent a week late to get to me.

They did this because I called up and complained and asked them to change the shipping rate to overnight. Apparently the sufficiently competent and sober guy on the other end nicely agreed to bump it to next day for me, but hit the wrong button.

Oh, and yes I was charged for 2nd day delivery still AND they never did give me any form of voucher or refund.

To me it was pretty cut and dry.

On top of it the guy I got on the phone informed me he was unable to give me the beta discount without delaying my package at least another week. Yadda yadda yadda, anyway it sucked.

Other than that, I don't have much against Ubi. They support good games that are fun and not entirely violence oriented. A lot of companies don't do that these days.

This is not an Uru or Ubi-specific phenomenon, though. I have ALWAYS been able to get any game I was waiting for (offhand I can think of instances from at least 4 different publishers) at EBX either the same day or earlier than folks who had pre-ordered. And folks are always indignant about it. Remember, pre-ordering is JUST pre-ordering; it isn't pre-receiving http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

(Besides, I'd rather hop in the car and go to the store than sit around at home chewing my fingernails waiting for the UPS guy, but that's individual preference http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

I dont pre-order from game companies with the shipping and the missing dates and the m'heh (imagine Professor Frink saying that).
One reason is they dont ship to Australia.

In order to get first in, I pre-order from my local EB. They always get it first day in Australia, sometimes first day in the world.

I bought Uru from a CompUSA store here in Michigan (U.S.) on November 13th, the day before the "official" release. I was surprised they had it, so I asked them when they got it in. I was told it had been on the shelf for 3 days at that point.

With the Prologue being on a first-come basis at the time, getting Uru early allowed me to get in just a couple of weeks later. I don't see where timing is an issue with Revelation.

That's exactly what I do at my local EB, except that I will only pre-order if there is a pre-order bonus to make it worthwhile. Otherwise, I'll just wait until it's on the shelves and pick it up then. Much easier to return/exchange, if necessary, when you go local as well. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
