Any one have any info/pics on this US divebomber. I found one article about it. It was in service through the Battle of Midway and was replaced by the SBD Dauntless.

I don't think it was aboard a single carrier by the time the war started. The Navy was already in the process of replacing it with the SBD. The only ones to see combat, AFAIK, were those at Midway being flown by the Marines. There might have been some at Wake Island, but I doubt any ever got off the ground.

http://www.vought.com/heritage/products/html/sb2u.html here's some good info. Midway had 17 SB2U-3's and their story can be found here: http://www.vought.com/heritage/special/html/ssb2u2.html

The article I read is quite similar to the one AA furnished a link to. Thanks, at least there was a picture with this one.

I understand that the Vindicator was primarily a land based plane and saw very limited action, but it did see some. I don't think I would be dissapointed much if it was not included in PF.

Maybe as an AI plane.

I believe the RAF flew them in Burma.

I certainly wouldn't mind if this missed out on the release PF. I'd be thrilled if it and the many others planes that saw little or just missed the action were modeled and offered in a patch someday in the future.

I figure any plane that saw any action should some day be seen in these virtual skies, But, I'll take what ever I get and be happy about it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Didn't the RAAF and/or RNZAF use them too?

Luckily the RAAF didn't have to use the Vindicator. We used the Vultee Vengeance. Although when I think about it the Vengeance may not have been all that much of an improvement.
The RAF did have a few Vindicators which were part of a French order which could not be delivered due to the fact that they had lost the war by then! The RAF re-named them Cheasapeake's and used them as trainers as they were considered to be under-powered and too outdated for service. I do recall a Fleet Air Arm pilot saying that they were very nice to fly though.
It would be nice to see them in PF but as has already been said they really only saw service at Midway and there are far more important aircraft for inclusion.
Being an Australian I would think a far more important candidate for PF would be the Lockheed Hudson. It would see a lot of service on the Singapore and Java(?) maps. In the first year of the war the RAAF was heavily invoved and the Hudson squadrons were our main contribution. And don't forget Australian Hudsons dropped the bombs which caused the first Japanese shipping loss on the 8th Dec.

As a Jarhead, I'd love to see the bird in the game. As a sim fan however, it not showing up in the game is understandable. Maybe in the future. VMSB-241 "The Sons of Satan", are the only the Marine Corps squadron I can find reference to being equiped with the SB2U-3s at the start of the war.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I guess I had my wires crossed. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
