Hey, do you guys know about the "Bring Up Whatever You Like!" Paradox?

It says: Off-topic only.

But therefore, when we post something off-topic, we are abiding by the rules claiming we must be off-topic hence we are on-topic. Since we're on-topic, doesn't that mean we're breaking the rule of being off-topic?

Discuss!

itsamea-mario
05-13-2012, 08:59 PM
Though the title doesn't state it, it is implied the the topic in question is the topic of Assassins Creed. so anything not AC related, is off topic.

Though the title doesn't state it, it is implied the the topic in question is the topic of Assassins Creed. so anything not AC related, is off topic.

My point exactly. By being off-topic, which the topic states we must be, aren't we being on-topic, essentially disobeying the topic title?

itsamea-mario
05-13-2012, 09:05 PM
No, you mis-understand me. Off topic in this case basically means No AC. It doesn't refer to the thread itself. to be on topic in this thread, you simply need to say anything unrelated to AC. It's an unfortunate use of words that has stung us many times.

n00bfi_97
05-13-2012, 09:09 PM

No, no, I do understand you just need to post things unrelated to AC. But, if you do, you're being technically on-topic as the title implies you need to be off-topic.

Let me put it this way:

Title says you need to be off-topic.

You post something off-topic.

Therefore, you are on-topic.

By being on-topic, you are breaking the requirements of the thread content.

Get it?

itsamea-mario
05-13-2012, 09:13 PM
Your assuming topic just means the topic of this thread.

Technically yes, being off topic makes you on topic, but they are different topics, so there's no contradiction.

How stupid can people be nowadays?

They really think that people are bloody reptilians, and sometimes on the news or whatever they catch them in the middle of a shape-shift? Jesus Ti**y Christ help me!

While some of the videos are quite creepy, It's probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my entire life, hands down.

You don't drink with your hand...

I'm not sure whether to say, "Well done," or cry.
I'll take the latter, on second thought. It's a lot more tearful, and I am a fan of salt.

I lied.

I never really thought about it.

That's a very strange thing to say. I only fakely thought about it. I only artificially thought about it. My thoughts were made in China. Everything is made in China. Why is everything not made out of china? I only fakely thought about it. I only vaguely thought about it. There, that makes sense. Thank you for sharing this wondrous moment with me; although, in truth, you haven't, since you're experiencing this moments after the moment I did. Force times radius. Force o'clock. and of course the infamous pasta tree fool they pulled off years earlier which resulted in millions of people trying to grow their own spaghetti.

It must be hard, like returning to your hometown to find it's become merely a shadow of it's former self, you're not quite sure exactly what happened, was it instant, some kind of disaster? Or was it merely the product of slow and gradual decline? either way, nothing is the same, you can see that it's the same place, but in your heart you know it's changed, the feelings gone, replaced by something, empty almost sickening. this once vibrant and bustling land has become little more than a shanty town, and all you can do is watch.

In my opinion the golden age of this forum, was the time around the release of AC2 and up until ACB, then it really began to decline. though maybe that's because that's around the time i started.

And for this i do blame multiplayer, at least partly, before there were people here content with the games, cool people, then they played multiplayer and got put off the series and left these forums. but that's a tale for another time.

I`ll probably make it into something like a history book, and We`ll measure them with "A.C"
A.C 1 being the first year of creation for this Forum..
and as more old school members pop back up I`ll update the dates with corresponding events..

From fabled poem wars, to Aunt Soesa's riveting campfire tales that made so much sense none could understand them! A thread about the best way to die, including papercuts and Kew's eyestabby! Oh, glorious eyestabby! The creation of the very first BUWYWL! The creation of the Hiafodain! The secrets of 453 being ravelled quicker than they were unravelled! Mind games and plots employed to achieve sinister deeds from behind the scenes! The Old Git taking up the rusty hammer! Arguing the pronunciation of Altair on a daily basis! Claiming to be a Canadian lumberjack! Moshy Lauren whose gender was debated furiously, and a MerPony who posted furiously! Arguing a newly assigned mod to the Jambo! Turning RealJambo pink! Destroying another forum's mod embarrassingly in debate using the forum rules against them!

And that's just off the top of my head. Each and every one of those is a ridiculously long story, I should mention. I've tried to list them in the order they happened, but my memory is terrible, and I'm positive there are a bunch that are all muddled up.

No it doesnt..
Practically Everyone dreams everyday, but when we open our eyes we forget 10 % of the dream and the rest is forgotten just as we get up from bed. Its very rare when you find someone who can recollect a dream as soon as he/she wakes up. Another thing is that a dream lasts about 3.67 seconds; not exactly tiring, but it has been proven that dreams and reality are relative to each other, meaning that what happens in a dream has an equal in reality when you`re sleeping. Strain is only caused by the amount of sleep you get, Dreams are in no part concerned with strain..
Sure, some dreams may cause a faster heart beat rate or severe sweating, but not Physical tiredness..

Dreams don't last 3 seconds. I do psychology its something called "REM". It stands for Rapid Eye Movement. During this period in sleep your eyes move depending on what you are looking at in your dream. Cool right?! You have many dreams over a night but only remember a few if any when you wake up.

Yes they do..
I wasnt talking about Lucid dreaming specifically, I was talking about dreams in general and Yes they are relative to the Conscience world. I know what Lucid dreaming is
The longest dream is about 8 seconds, 3 seconds is the average time.

no no no no this is wrong... id prefer sources for your proof..
if it is true, then when i gain lucid awareness during a dream then i have less than 1.5 seconds to remain in a dream? no sense man...
lucid dreams can last 2-40 minutes during rem, perhaps even longer
and a normal dream transforms into lucid so it still makes no sense :o

Unfortunately My only sources are several books, and I cannot be bothered to search for ones on the internet..
But I will tell you this, keeping mind the theory of Relativity of time, The Dream is on a different plane, and some argue dimension, than the Conscience world. The Theory of relativity states that time can be measured differently according to many elements, which I wont be going into great detail, Another proof is many subjects claiming dreams to have lasted for weeks greatly detailing the events of such dream..
So yes Time is measured differently..
But since I cannot present sources, I`ll just stop here..

The concept of genetic memory has been useful in the study of a variety of subjects such as psychology, biology, as well as parapsychology. However, depending upon the subject matter, the term refers to different situations.

In psychology, genetic memory is a form of memory that exists in a person since birth even though the individual has yet to obtain any sensory experiences. Instead, the memory has been imprinted into the human’s genome over eons developing further and further until the present.
The concept of genetic memory involves the belief that the experiences undergone by the human species, as well as other species, are integrated into the genome. It does not undergo the common Lamarckian method through which individual memories are recorded.

Instead, this process, which is not well understood, involves the recording of different memories so as to make the species more able to respond to certain stimuli and situations. Genetic memory, which is used to explain Carl Jung’s postulate of racial memory, is often mistaken for cultural memory. However, they are not equivalent. Cultural memory consists of customs, social myths and artifacts, and it has existed for a much shorter period of time than genetic memory.

The development of cultural memory could only occur after the ability of the human species to convey experiences. In other words, the development of language. Racial memory, however, consists of feelings, memories, and ideas that are gained from a human’s ancestors through collective consciousness.

The ability of humans to be able to develop and maintain language is a phylogenetic characteristic, meaning that it is generated through the biological functioning of the nervous system, which is present in each human being from their first day of life. However, language is only a small aspect of genetic memory. Language, particularly small units of sound that comprise each language, develop during the process of ontogeny, or development of the organism from fetus to full adult maturity.

Biologists in the 19th century determined that the concept of genetic
memory combined with memories of experiences along with genetics and heredity. They, however, believed that the process of genetic memory was Lamarckian. This is now believed to be untrue. In 1881, the new belief was that psychological memory, as well as genetic memory, came from the same source and that the only difference between the two was that psychological memory was affected by consciousness.

Although these theories, which were generated in the 19th century, have not been wholly discredited by scientists, new theories such as those of Darwin, Gerd B. Muller, and Stuart A. Newman strongly contradict these assertions. Instead, they have led to new thoughts regarding the concept of genetic memory. So in short they are there in some form, but in the context presented in Assassins Creed

Was SaarBenKiki right about the century long dream thing? I've been trying/wanting to lucid dream for a while now, and I've always wondered if a dream could seem literally like a lifetime has passed, and when you wake up you realise it was all a dream. Seems a little cliched, but it would be really interesting if it could or did really happen. I love dreams. Having them and learning about how and why you dream. There are so many things the mind can do that people don't realise.

I do love reading about it. I'm planning to start doing methods to remember dreams and things and possibly attempt to lucid dream. I've read about setting alarms at intervals and keeping a dream journal so you write down everything remember as you wake up. I want to experience lucid dreaming, but some aspects of it do seem rather frightening. Still going to try though.

I can remember one time only that I actually realised I was dreaming. I was standing talking to my family, and they were all speaking gibberish. None of it made any sense. That's when I realised "whoa... This is a dream...". I looked out the window after that and where my garden should have been, there was a vast ocean. That's when I woke up. It was a really cool, very interesting experience.

Just be careful when you first start, waking up after a lucid dream often leaves your body locked rigid (like it is when you sleep) and often makes people panic when they wake up, and it really scared me the first time I managed to lucid dream. I envy people who can do it every night though, would be amazing.

Not exactly. When you sleep, your brain automatically tightens your muscles and kind of makes you rigid, so you don't thrash around (obviously in differing derees for different people.) When you wake up from a lucid dream, since your brain is already active it sometimes releases your muscles a little bit later, so when you wake up you feel paralysed for a few seconds, and a lot of people panic. Sometimes the panic leads to a kind of mental paralysis, where the person thinks they still can't move but really they can. It's just a frightening few seconds for some people, which is why I'd advise you to just be aware of that if you're going to attempt lucid dreaming :p

On that note, lucid dreaming is quite easy to acheive aha. i read about it and tried it myself, what you do is lay down in a nice quiet place, close your eyes and just lay still, ignore every single itch and any other movements, after a while of constantly ignoring everything and not moving you trick your brain into thinking you're asleep, you're brain will attempt to send out signals and make you itchy just to check if you are asleep, but you simply ignore this, after a while you eventually being to lucid dream, your eyes feel heavy and you're in full control. I've tried this heaps of times and it's pretty freaky, you're eyes are rolling towards the back of you're head, your body feels so heavy that it's almost impossible to move, and you just start dreaming it's pretty awesome, and the good part is you can just open your eyes whenever. It's probably a good idea to make sure you're in a nice relaxed area, the first few times i did it i was freaking out when i woke up.

I always thought that dreams were just your subconscious filtering the events between periods of sleep.
So in a lucid dream, you control what you dream about? Or do you just dream about something random, while being able to 'control' your actions in the dream world?

I looked on the internet.
And it looks pretty awesome.

Lucid dreaming would be cool, yeah, but I don't think I'm capable of it, or willing to put the time in. Look at these checks you're recommended to do in the day, so that when you come to dreaming, you're more likely to check in the dream so you know if you're dreaming or not:

Looking at a digital clock (http://www.wikihow.com/Read-a-Binary-Clock) to see if it stays constant;
Looking at a body of text, looking away, and then looking back to see if it has changed;

Flipping a light switch (http://www.wikihow.com/Turn-off-a-Light-Switch-From-the-Other-Side-of-the-Room);

Looking in a mirror (http://www.wikihow.com/Create-a-Mirror) (your image will most often appear blurry or not appear at all in a dream). However, your figure can be horribly disfigured in a mirror, frightening you into nightmare or a dream.

Pinching your nose closed and trying to breathe (http://www.wikihow.com/Breathe);

Glancing at your hands, and asking yourself, "am I dreaming?" (when dreaming, you will most often see greater or fewer than five fingers on your hand);

Jumping (http://www.wikihow.com/Jump) in the air; you are usually able to fly during dreams

Poking yourself; when dreaming, your "flesh" might be more elastic than in real life; a common reality check is pushing your finger through the palm of your hand;

Try leaning against a wall. In dreams, you will often fall through walls.

Another one is seeing if you can poke your finger through your hand. Yeah, I'm not doing that all day.

It would be good if I could control dreams... I mean, imagine having a nightmare and just turning around and smacking the devil in the face. That would be relatively awesome.

But what if I get into a state where I'm so good at lucid dreaming, I prefer it to real life? What if I lucid dream all the things I long for, and I can control them, so I feel better about life in my dreams?

Stormpen
05-20-2012, 09:42 AM

You could prevent yourself from falling through walls if you could control the world enough.

It is VERY fascinating, the world of dreams is, mainly because it's still unexplained by science. Risky though, yes; generally you'll wake up in paralysis for a couple of seconds actually.

Might start recording what I dream, only problem is I actually dream very rarely (well, things I can remember).
