With all this talk of AC3 (very excited btw) I decided to see when everybody else started playing.

I've been with Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed since the beginning, the original AC game really changed everything in terms of quality. Ubisoft set a standard and continue to raise it.

So, when did you start playing the AC series?

I don't want to be like: ''Hey! I played AC ever since it came out!'' But I Started playing AC since the release of AC I.

The same here.
Started with AC1 and it really blew my mind.
I knew it was going to be awesome but it i didn't expext the modern stuff at all so that was a really pleasant surprise :).
I can still remember how confused i was when i saw all the negative reviews because in my opinion the game was a real "gamechanger".
The repetitve structure didn't bother me at all because it was pretty unique.
The atmosphere was freakin" amazing!
Everytime i hear this track, i relive the atmosphere of the game.

I started playing the Assassin's Creed series pretty much when it started, i remember the first time i saw the trailer for AC1 and instantly knew it would be awesome, got my hands on the game not long after it released, and it's been my favourite game series ever since.

Edit: As bijlsma said above, the whole modern day story came as a suprise to me, i remember a friend telling me a few days before release that you play as a guy reliving his ancestors memories and my mind was blown. xD

I know the franchise since the release of AC1 but only had the opportunity to play it after the release of AC2 because my old PC sucked and then when I got a new computer I played AC2 and then AC1... :p

Not long ago, around August 2011, but know I love the series and have completed all games and know pretty much the whole story, and I started with Ac2, and had no idea about modern day until then.

Are you sure it wasn't the summer of '69?

I started to play AC I in January 2008. My best friend had asked for it for Christmas and he played for a bit while I watched and I could not get it out of my mind. I finally gave in a couple of weeks later and bought it. It is now my favorite game series.

I too started with AC1. Funny enough, i actually didn't find it all that fun initially, and had to buy it again close to AC2's release to finish it, haha.

i saw my friend play AC1 and played it a bit at his and loved it, but couldn't buy it as i didn't have a console at the time, then i got a console and bought AC2 a few months after it was released, i got brotherhood about a month after it's release and Revelations on the day. i may not have been a day one fan but i know as much about AC lore as anyone who has.

I started following AC when my friend showed me that cinematic trailer where Altair kills the crusader in Acre. I've never been more hyped for a game than I was for AC1. I had to beg my parents to let me buy it because I was only 14 when it came out but they let me get it. I was completely blown away and have been devoted to the series ever since.

This is the trailer i'm talking about.

I saw the trailer that TheHumanTowel mentioned for the first game around the time it came out. I was very impressed with the graphics and the game sounded interesting, but I didn't get around to playing it until 2009 or 2010. I started with AC1 and since the second game was already out, I didn't have to endure an agonizing wait to play it. Now, Brotherhood was a different story...

i started playing when i read the announcement article in gameinformer for AC2 and immediately ran out and got AC1 and was hooked. but funny enough i heard about AC1 through my brother when it was just released, i remember we were hanging out, he just dropped his wife off at her friends house and she gave him five bucks (his money, he worked she didn't, and she gets to do whatever she wants and spend as much as she wants, while he wears clothes from 2002 and gets nothing. she's currently in Vegas partying with her friends for the week, she left him $20 to survive with. anyway) as soon as we left her, he screams "woo hoo, i can get my game!!!", he pulls out a wad of ones and tells me he's been sneaking and hiding this money for three months to get AC1, i tell him he's pissing his money away and that he should get GTA4 but he gets it anyway. i forgot about the game until i read the AC2 article, wish i hadn't just blew it off as a crap game, now i know better and don't judge games i haven't heard about.

Bought AC1 on the day of release, was waiting on it for nearly a year. I remember taking a half day from work to pick it up. Man those memories. Played it all weekend non-stop.

I was still living at home and my mum was going to buy me AC1 for my birthday as a gift to me(on the day of release). The only condition was that I had to cut my slightly longer than shoulder length hair. I almost said no.

I'm glad I said yes.

I know, I used to buy all the magazines I could get my hands on just to read bits and look at pics. I remember being astonished at what I was reading and seeing. I just bought into the idea of the game as soon as I heard about it.

I started playing about mid-2010 when my brothers friend bought an Xbox and he had AC2. However he left and I had only done half of AC2 but loved it and since I only had a wii at the time I seached on the interenet to see if it was coming onto wii when I found out it wasn't I decided to get an Xbox for Christmas and one of the first games I bought was AC1. I loved it too and then bought AC2 and finished it which is my favourite game of all time after that I bought ACB again thinking it was amazing and that began the long but worth waited year for ACR. Finally now I patiently wait for AC3 which looks to be the best AC yet and GOTY 2012.

First Assassin's Creed game I played was Assassin's Creed (One) and it was on November 16, 2007, the day of release here in the UK (I even have the cheap white hoodie with the bright red Assassin emblem plastered on it still). As others have said here, I followed the announcements as they were made, especially those mentioning the game's reputed sci-fi aspect.

I first played AC1 back in late 2009/early 2010 (it was just before the release of AC2), it was recommended to me by a now ex-friend.

I've been playing all the major games in the series since (2, B and R)

Had noticed AC1 in shops, didn't really pursue untill I read an AC2 article in game mag on rail station. AC2 not out on PC at time, but got AC1 and liked, particularly knowing the improvements that were coming in AC2. Went on from there...

I remembering the weeks leading up to the release me and my brother were argueing which game we should get, AC1 or call of duty 4. I wanted AC1 he wanted COD4. when they came out he got cod4 and thought it was cool, but the thought of ac1 haunted me so much that i had to get it even though i didn't have my own console at the time as i was 18 and broke. Man, i still remember how confused i was when we exited the animus, i was like "did i buy the right game?" i then got AC2 on release from toy'r us and have preodered every game since. i sitll think i chose the right game, compared to my brother. To this day AC is my all time fav game franchise and cant wait until AC3

Summer 2009 I believe. I remember playing the first game and somewhat amazed. Then I heard about Brotherhood and kept thinking "who's this Ezio guy?." I watched a gameplay vid of AC2 and was super pumped when I got it. That game basically changed my life.

I've been following it since it was first hinted at on the Prince of Persia forums. (After the release of The Two Thrones).
I've been a fan ever since but i didn't have a proper console to play it, neither the money to buy one so until about a little while ago,
i always got to play them by borrowing a friends PS3 and the games from another friend. :P
It wasn't until the release of Revelations that i finally got to buying a PS3 of my own.

It's kinda weird to be a big fan for years of a game series that you don't even own yourself. :P

Pre-oredered AC1 in about June 2007, and got it on release.
Absolutely loved the sci-fi setting and the atmosphere when playing as Altair.
Since then have picked up every other AC game on release.
Best decision ever made!

I was at a friends house when i saw him playing ac1, the climbing and movements looked really cool! So i borrowed it off a friend but never really finished it because of viewpoint sync problems, Instead i watched it all on you tube, one day i was in a game store and decided to pick up AC2. This game got me very interested in the story followed by ACB and ACR. i just picked up ac1 a month ago and finished it. This game challenged my mind and made me think about games like never before, oh the journey i have been through with this series.
