Amazing!!

Irony mode off...

It is safe to assume that 99% of the crowd on an aviation board are as "in the know" as yourself when it comes to aviation subjects.

Friend of mine flew a zero look-a-like in Final Countdown. Anybody got the credits to that one? Just wondering if he was listed.

The final countdown is an awesome movie. It is also the best movie in terms of carrier operations. Everything is done in a very believable way, minus the freak electrical storm that transports them back to Dec. 6, 1941. The Tomcat vs. Zero fight is too much fun. If you haven't seen this movie go get it. It's a fav of mine still. It's got Kirk Douglas as the Nimitz captain and Martin Sheen as a DoD rep on board checking things out. There's a cool twist at the end involving the CAG character. A really well done movie IMHO. It was filmed in 1979 I believe. Great in-flight stuff too and an interesting story.
Two thumbs way up.

That one shot with the Tomcats sweeping their wings back in preparation to engage the Zeroes... you can't help but to feel sorry for the Japanese pilots.

Picked up a copy of this movie on DVD. It's a fairly recent release - shouldn't be too hard to find.

icrash: PM a name and I'll confirm if your friend is listed.

Nimitz was my first carrier.(82-85) Every time we did an "emergecy break away excersize from the replentishment ship they played the theme of "Final Countdown" over the 1MC. Drove the crew nuts! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

>>>What's wrong Ruy, don't you know an American friend?<<<

I am an American who was living in Japan at the time this movie was released. It drew long "wait on line for an hour or so" crowds in Tokyo.

It was shown with the original sound track & Japanese sub-titles. The audience cracked up when the captured Zero pilot, played by actor Soon-Teck Oh who was born in Japan but raised in Korea & now living in the US, spoke Japanese with a strong accent . http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It also got a big round of applause when the Tomcat pilots realized the Zeros were shooting at them
