Hello gents, I found this on gameinformer's "month of AC:3" coverage. It is an interesting interview with three of the developers. Near the end of the video (14:00), they discuss the possibilities of WW2 or Feudal Japan as a future game location.

Dude seriously u scared me now, your title and post suggests that they were discussing WW2 and feudal Japan as probable locations for future games, I was about to ask if they ever come to the forums at all.
Turns out they were just saying what we say from the beginning, they are beautiful sets but overused nowadays and "IF they ever thought about doing a game that takes place there, they'd do it in a completely original and creative way " (not sure if exact quote) which means they're not thinking about doing a game there anytime soon.
It's cool to know they actually listen to us sometimes :)

They just basically said that IF they were to do a game in that time period, they could make it new and fresh. They never said they're going to make a game in WW2 or Japan.

The writer, Cory May, said he had a way to logically set a game in Feudal Japan. I want to know what he is thinking so bad!

As Ender points out Corey May said he has a way of going to Feudal Japan mapped out in his head.

Does that mean a game with Shao Jun in China?

No. As of yet it means nothing.

Although there is the possibility with the Vita game later in the year.

True. There is that, but let's not jump to conclusions.

Why?
I would seriously love to play as Shao Jun in China (taking it back), and it'd work great with the current style of Combat.

Having a future AC game based in Asia is a possibility since they made a new engine for AC3. The combat system is suppose to be different than past games with more emphasis on moving. I think the Asian martial arts fighting style can work (basing off Shao Jun's style in Embers). I don't really have a specific time period that I want as long as the game is good.

I think a jungle setting is a distinct possibility. China, maybe, mongol invasions. Maya, Spanish invasions. The wilderness concept is here to stay for at least another game I would think before going back to an arid environment like Egypt or Persia.

To respond to the OP, no, Feudal Japan is not in the immediate future. He said he had a way he could make work in an original way but based on the reactions of the others, it is not a soon to be possibility.

I'd rather not have China. Japan would be awesome, China wouldn't be.
