Hello. I am playing the FB DGen Leningrad offline campaign as a Russian flyer based with the 120 IAP (P40Es) at Kronstadt . In Feb 1942 I flew a fighter sweep mission in the direction of Kotka, Finland but 5 minutes after we took off we were engaged by a schwarm of Bf109s. Since there were only 4 of them and 8 of us, we naturally shot them down and flew onwards to Kotka. Afterwards, during the mission debriefing I was informed that 'the famous ace BOB was shot down and captured.' I have received such messages before and the names have been known to me (names like Nowotny, Kittel, etc.), but I haven't heard of 'famous ace Bob'. Does anyone know who he is ? I think he was flying a Bf109F2, 'Yellow 1' with a JG54 (Green Hearts) emblem, and had a yellow shield with a red-and-black gremlin's head emblazoned on the aircraft's nose. (This was the only 109 without a default skin, anyhow.) If this is an IL2 programmer, then I think it's a bad idea. Ruins my feeling of immersion and so on. Your views ?

It's not a mistake or a typo http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Or a programmer. Do a search on this Bob guy, you may be surprised

LOL!

Ruins YOUR sense of immersion???

What do you think to poor Bob's sense of immersion?? The guy is still alive and he never was a POW. He's in a for a hell of a shock if he flies that campaign http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Read the bio link above: He never was in Leningrad (he was in the BoB, served briefly on the Eastern Front but spent the vast majority of his career on the Western Front. And he was never shot down or captured).

Those campaigns all were designed by Starshoy. Keep that in mind when you order his new Battle Over Europe. History has nothing to do with anything in any of his missions.

Too funny. Musta pulled Bob's name out of a hat http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the replies! I read the bio-link from EvilBen and now can safely say that I won't forget Bob. I wonder if he got razzed for that name. I keep thinking of that song, 'A boy named Sue' for some reason !
