Back in the 80's the dutch television aired a serie about a british fighter group during the BOB, as far as I can recall anyway.
I bet this serie must also have been aired in at least Britain, but maybe other countries too.
Does anybody remember what this serie was called and if it is available these day's?
I do remember the pilots has some sort of contest going on with flying underneath a bridge(?)

Here in the UK they made a series based on Derek Robinson's book 'A Piece of Cake' back then. There was definitely a scene where one of the pilots got killed flying under a bridge for a dare.

Don't know if it's available now on dvd - never seen it over here.

Thanks for the reply, just looked it up, as far as I can see now only Amazon has it available. In the Netherlands none so far.

I'm in USA. Got it from Amazon on DVD. Great series, some footage from the movie "Battle of Britain" but lots of other wonderful "new" footage of Spits and 109's (Spanish copies, that is!)

My favorite line when the American pilot Chris Hart safely lands after a failure of his wooden prop (paraphrased): "What would you have told my parents, that I was killed by termites?"

Chris Hart (CH3?) was a cool dude.

My favourite character was Moggy Cattermole. I can't remember - was he as nasty in the series as he was in the book?

He definitely had a "snake-in-the-grass" kind of way about him! He started the "under the bridge" flying contest after hearing it from a French flyer.

No prizes for guessing where my online nickname of No1_Moggy comes from. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

'Piece of cake' was an okay TV mini-series. It only ran for about 4-5 episodes and it showed how desperately short of modern equipment the RAF was especially at start of WW2. It actually starts off with the squadron being posted to France during the phoney war- before things got serious and people started dying around them.
The best thing about it was how it showed the hardening of the characters during the course of the conflict. It portrayed the characters becoming cynical, world weary people capable of quite ruthless actions.
