LONDON, UK – April 16, 2009 – Today Ubisoft announced that Ubisoft Montréal is developing Assassin’s Creed II on all current-generation platforms for a scheduled Holiday 2009 launch. The initial installment of Assassin’s Creed® was released in November 2007 to popular and critical success, selling 8 million copies worldwide, and garnering awards such as Best Action Game 2007 from 1UP and Outstanding Achievement in Animation from the AIAS.

Assassin’s Creed II is the product of over two years of intensive development by the original creative team behind the Assassin’s Creed brand. In a vast open world environment, the game invites players to incarnate Ezio, a privileged young noble in Renaissance Italy who’s been betrayed by the rival ruling families of Italy. Ezio’s subsequent quest for vengeance plunges players into a captivating and epic story that offers more variety in missions, surprising and engaging new gameplay elements, diverse weapons and a profound character progression that will appeal to fans of the original Assassin’s Creed as well as entice players new to the brand.

“Our creative team is working hard to top the experience of Assassin’s Creed,” said Patrice Desilets, creative director at Ubisoft. “We’ve made improvements to every aspect of the game. And we’ve plunged ourselves into the stunning history of the Italian Renaissance so that we can offer fans a unique, varied and innovative Assassin’s Creed experience.”

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif I don't think Altaïr will be in AC2. The playable ancestor of Desmond will be Ezio, who'll look the same (at least face-wise) but with cooler clothes and weapons.

Coats of Arms. In the New trailer thread we've been discussing them.

Middle one is Vatican CoA. One on the right is the Venetian CoA and the one on the left is the Pazzi family's CoA.

We watch intensly at the AC stuff and scrutinize it closely. Ubi usually hiding stuff. And the CoA stuff was already being researched in another thread, trying to gain inside knwoledge of the time the game is set, to try and think up ideas of what could happen.

That was an awful trailer to be honest. Not because I need gameplay footage or whatever, I dig the Da Vinci drawings and look of the trailer, but the horrible music and lame voice over ruined it for me, and wasn't very 'envelope pushing' as most of the trailers were for AC1. C'mon Ubi! Where's the mystery!? Where's the innovation!? Why are you letting the folks over at PBS produce your trailers for you...? What happened to trailers like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcaSVvsFauQ

Oh btw Ubi, thanks for getting rid of Jade Raymond, despite being insanely hot she was incredibly annoying and kinda made it look like you were trying to sell your game with a booth babe in a way.

but just to clear up, jade raymond was just a pr person right? - she wasnt actually a designer of the game?

Producer's don't usually get as much screen time as Jade Raymond did for AC1. They may sit in for an interview with IGN or something, and do a few press junkets, but UBI decided to make her the poster-girl for the game because she was decent looking. She was literally everywhere. The role of a producer is a fairly unclear one, it can range from high-intensity involvement to minor phone calls and game promotion. Her wikipedia outlines a very small amount of projects she's worked on, starting out as a programmer for Sony, one would question how someone goes from being a mere programmer (a job which literally dozens of people fill the shoes of on any particular game) to being a hot shot producer for Ubi's biggest title of 2007. Hmmm. I smell shenanigans.

I think this is why Ubi decided not to bring her on for this project, there were some complaints that they were stooping to "TnA" marketing strategies, using Raymond's looks and "geek credibility" (being a hot chick programmer for video games is not something you see very often honestly) to hype their game. I like the route they seem to be taking now, although who knows if Raymond will make a surprise appearance at gameplay showings and such in the future. While a lot of people didn't like her presence... a lot of people fell in love with her which is exactly what Ubi wanted I bet.

no the wright brothers were the first ones to make a self-propelled aronauticle vehicle, the vehicle in the picture is just a glider, which was first introduced by Leonardo de Vinciand i believe the glider is only used in one mission thruoghout the entire game so it won't be used regularly, only in the xtreme situation

No no, a game wouldn't exist without the programmers, but that's not what I was implying. What I was saying is that I found it fishy that she started out as just a programmer, then literally two projects later she is a "producer" for Ubi's flagship 07 title and plastered on every hard core gamer's desktop wallpaper. The corporate ladder isn't usually scaled in such a speedy way. That is why I smell shenanigans.

@ROBJ808: Part of the Creed says that you assassinate your targets in front of everybody, making them an example for the public to see. Sometimes showmanship and theatrics work best for assassination techniques, "hiding in plain site" as it were, making it seem that the assassins are in fact untouchable and can do as they please. Assassinating someone in plain sight shows tons more talent and bravery, rather than pulling a cheap shot assassination by killing a target in a back alley while no one is looking. This is why the assassin's don't use poisons, they want to make each assassination personal and theatrical. How much more theatrical can one get than flying in on a flying machine to assassinate your target in front of everybody? Proves the assassin's are unstoppable. You must have missed all of these points presented in the first AC, as did a lot of the players sadly.

#2 probably applies to everyday, not the "main" or "big" assassinations(and afterwards, he hides anyway). #3 is probably more along the lines of... after one of the big assassinations, Altair cannot enter a beauro(spelling -_-' ) until no one is aware of him, and probably to not lead enemies back to Masyaf(like someone had done in the begining).

There were a bunch of missions in AC1 where you HAD to assassinate your target in front of a large crowd. It was part of the theatrics of the assassination, and no matter how long you waited for the perfect "silent kill" moment, it never came, forcing you to assassinate your target in plain site.

Majd Addin's assassination is a good example of this. In the story, why not wait until he was sitting on the toilet or taking a bath to assassinate him? Why the theatrics? It the way the Hashashin did business, through example and theatrics, instead of pure stealth. Pure stealth showed weakness.

Part of what makes these guys so badass is that they COULD assassinate a target in plain sight, causing endless amounts of guards to chase after them, then simply disappear into the city without a trace. THAT is why they were so well known for their tactics, and that is why they are so cool. You would only spot these assassin's when they were killing their prey, never to be seen again... unless there was another target to be eliminated. Remember, the Hashashin actually existed, look up some of their tactics and historical records, it's really quite interesting really. They would make their presence well known throughout the Holy Land, but the public could never spot them, until it was too late. Fascinating, and a great concept for a game.

Found this cool excerpt from wikipedia, not really having to do with the "theatrics" discussion per se, but it is fun:

"Fedayeen used their well-known deadliness for political goals without necessarily killing; for example, a victim, usually high-placed, might one morning find a Hashshashin dagger lying on his pillow upon awakening. This was a plain hint to the targeted individual that he was not safe anywhere, that maybe even his inner group of servants had been infiltrated by the assassins, and that whatever course of action had brought him into conflict with the Hashashashin would have to be stopped if he wanted to live"

So badass if you ask me.

i doubt they make exceptions for "main or big" assassinations id imagine they treat all assassinations as important as the last.

and once again ill say i think an assassination should be done so you don't draw attention to yourself but do it leting people know that it was you

(very confusing i know but this old trailer from assassins creed 1 will help explain)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN9aaELXCXk

that video didn't show altair but you know it was him.
whats going to make a bigger impact on people seeing the kill or not knowing where it came from. in that video you see how scared the others are not knowing if they were next and knowing they can't fight against an invisible enemy.

So, Altair, highest ranking assassin in the Holy Land, would NEVER do something like this then:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc-ClutaN_I

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Sometimes, yes, it makes sense to kill and not be seen, other times it pays to kill in front of people. It turns a "myth" about the assassins into fact. Imagine if you never saw the actual assassin's do their dirty work, the news back then would be spread by word of mouth, after awhile turning myth, then legend, etc. But, if hundreds of people whiteness the attack with their own eyes, suddenly the myth becomes very real, with hundreds of accounts to support the story. Makes sense right?

Absolutely bull crap of a trailer. We already had a teaser video out... basically the exact same thing with a voice over. Lame.

Also @people just discovering the pictures. It's amazing, how did you guys manage to post in this thread while being a week into the past? Assassins Creed mystery?!!? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Whoa, I didnt know that (wait til you read further) what a shocker.

Ok so I did some research here.

First off some big producers that stand out to me are:

Ken Levine-Bioshock
Todd Howard-Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion

Each of them had a trailer walkthrough that talked about the game etc. Yes they had press releases and yes I probably agree that Jade Raymond was used to sell the game but

I didnt buy the game because of Jade Raymond; heck I dont think I would buy a game just because someone produced it (though this gets better lol)

I loved the Thief series; Thief: The Dark Project and Thief: The Metal Age; Assassins Creed was similiar (to me) to Thief; I always thought 'wouldnt it be cool to scale the walls in Thief' and while you dont steal in Assassins Creed you Assassinate.

OK now for some "facts"

The Producer/Executive Producer of Thief did 1 and 2

The Producer/Executive Producer of Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow also did Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

Also with the Hitman series (there were a lot of producers on this one) 2 of the producers produced "all 3-4" games of the series.

Basically I'm trying to say that Jade Raymond may still be around or she may not be around. According to my recent findings just because she produced 1 game of a series; does not disqualify her for being a producer of more.

I found my data via the IMDB.com

Oh and BTW here was that shocker I was telling you about

Jade Raymond produced "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots"

Though if you pull it up on IMDB shes like one of the 19 producers of the game hehe and its credited as.....Jade Raymond: Associate Producer.Ubisoft.

In light of keeping on topic.............I'll be buying AC 2 regardless, the trailer didnt do much for me but then neither did "The Secret World" teaser but oh well....../heres hoping to gameplay videos at E3 huh http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jade Raymond was hired because of her skill not because of her looks. If you go through her interviews you can see that she is very social and skilled in PR(maybe in designing too).

Hello
I’m a fan of Assassin’s Creed I just really want you guys NOT to call it Assassin’s Creed 2….
Yeah yeah… I know you guys got your marketing team and all that and did all the research, but call it something else OTHER than the 2 pretty please. Just like how we all know PoP:Warrior Within was the sequel to PoP: Sands of Time, do the same with Assassin’s Creed (Maybe AC:Path of the Renaissance… just a though). I just think it makes it more ‘Story like’ and less Hollywood.
If anyone else agrees sign this, I made this account just to express this opinion (I’m not a fan of fourms… I wish I had a direct email to the lead producer)
Thanks for reading,

Ok i dont know on this forum where to put my assumptions but here i go.
This is kinda far fetched but i look to do this kind of research :P

I did some research on who were pope during leonardo da vinci's life span,
I found two popes, pius II and Pius III
both from the Piccolomini family from Siena.
Siena was one of the main cities in connection to the rennaisance.
Piccolomini family was a noble family with a counting house (Accountancy Office) in Siena and Venice.
I also found this on a website.
Old Sienese Coins.
http://www.italian-architectur...0px-Denaro_siena.jpg (http://www.italian-architecture.info/SI/250px-Denaro_siena.jpg)
look at the coin on the left. It has the same symbol as the Coat of arms of the pazzi family in Florence.

Another thing was that i looked at the places where in the new trailer the blood starts to spread on the map of italy, it clearly starts at rome ( vatican ) and the area around Florence and Siena, and then it works its way to venice too.

So thats my research, i know its far fetched :P. But dont blame a man for having fun.

Xanatos2007

The coin on the right has the Templar's cross. Could this play a part in the game? It wouldn't surprise me.

This games turning every fan into a conspiracy theory & history junkie its freakin sweet. but i think this is gonna be the most we're gonna be seeing for a while before the games release date. Anyway thought i'd just throw this in: at the end of the first one, for those that completed it, with all the eagle vision stuff going on outside the animus theres some numbers on the floor: 21122012. if you're bored enough, wikipedia search that date 21/12/2012 and see also the article on a trippy chap named Terrance Mckenna. just an all round interesting read. I'd like to hear what some other people think. The lads at ubi must be a trippy bunch to come up with a game with a storyline of this caliber.

Seen it, apparently something spectacular is going to happen on that date. Also, that's when Abstergo launches it's sattelite. There's heaps of other trippy things there as well. I agree, Ubisoft created an excellent storyline. Hopefully they take that magnitude into the sequel and tie in religion as well, that's what made it so unique.

Maybe it's not the end of the world literally, but the end of the world as we know it. The end of freedom. Which is what's portrayed in Assassin's Creed. If that's the case, I'd rather destroy the world.

You know what 12/21/2012 is?
Just another day in the calendar, which happens to be the last day in the Mayan calendar.

It's like a post I read a while ago.
The poster said "The end of the world? Bah. They just got tired of adding days to their calendar..."
They had to stop somewhere, didn't they?

Yea which supposedly could result in the total annihilation of the human race... which for us is the end of the world.

BUT, nothing could happen and it could just be the renewal of our generation and starting anew with history - our century.

But I am positive something catastrophic will happen, there are too many imminent things.

But, what Ubisoft was talking about with 12/21/12 is that is SUPPOSEDLY when the Illuminati reveal their master plan (their grand crusade) which results in a totalitarian society around the world and all of our beliefs and freedoms are directly controlled by the government.

That's what ive been saying, it's good that a video game has started this sort of conversation, illuminati/templars/the US government (lol) its all the same ****e. The fact that this date(21/12/2012, i'm from Australia we write the day before the month) has been sited by more than one culture not just the mayans and the end of their calander, as some sort of cataclysmic event is just spinout. That's not to say there hasn't been a fair few apocalyptic predictions by various nutters over the centuries, all of which were less than, well let's just say i'm still typing so you get it. Anyhow i did also mention Terence Mckenna, read up on this dude and some of his theories. He's most known for his 'stoned apple' theory which which relates to the fact that it was the mutual ingestion of drugs which enabled early humans to form an image in ones' head by the use of noises. In alot simpler terms 'we were under the influence when language was invented'. That's another kettle of fishes but he reckons on this date, it's not gonna be the apocalypse or the return of jebus or mouhamed, but rather "a global shift of concious" which in my opinion, with the way things are going, isnt a bad thing.
To quote Sycomikey "It's not the END of the world, it's the REBIRTH of the world" fair call. anyway assassin's creed was awesome cant wait for the next one. sorry for essaying instead of posting.

Unless Microsoft offered them a huge amount of money.

caswallawn_2k7
04-25-2009, 03:15 PM
yes because MS's money gets them everything http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif they cant even get reliable hardware, and besides the PS3 actualy has the highest user uptake for games out of the consoles. but the fact is no matter how much money MS can throw at it no firm will move a cross platform title to an exclusive as it would totaly kill the sales and make a vast majority of people distrust the company causing them too loose sales across the board.

the sad fact is people like you dont see MS throws money at trying to get games (because they have to as the hardware is poor) but cut every corner possible on the hardware. but Sony invests in the hardware to make it as strong as possible as it attracts developers as they can do more with it. Sony doesnt actualy pay for thier exclusives the developers decide to do them without sony having to prety much own them.

I find it hard to believe though that they are really going to release it for the PSP, and the Wii.

@Bowcaster77

It's not coming out for the Wii .. -_-. Why do they put in on Wikipedia. They've put their source [2] at the end of the article:
Wikipedia's source (http://www.gamersyde.com/news_7711_en.html)

And even their source says it will be available on:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Assassin's Creed 2 will be available on PS3, X360, PC and also on PSP </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

So let it be clear now.. not for the Wii, and yes, it will appear on the PSP.

actualy I havnt seen confirmation that the PSP version will be AC2 it could just be something similar to what AC1 got on the DS. as if they could get AC2 onto the PSP they could easily put it on the PS2 and hit a much larger market than the PS3 and 360 put together.

@Last two posts.

Do you guys seriously type like that? Yeesh, AC is so deep in story and history - as well as lathed with violence and war, yet the boards are filled with kids under 10. I don't understand.

Why am I interested in this medium that is heavily populated by children. I think it's the only form of entertainment where you could be digging in a bin (of on sale games) while a 6 and 9 year old boy and girl are doing the same. It'd be like fighting the kids at a dentist office trying to get the copy of Highlights inside the book case...

Apologize if you both took any offense to that, I'm just thinking out loud.

Hey, your not the only one a bit surprised. Now, I don't mean any offense either, I'm just curious. I mean, I'm about to turn 16, so I'm still a bit under the age but there are some people on here who said there were around the ages of 8 and 10; The main thing I don't understand is how your parents let you play these games or how they're sold to you.
Another thing is that there is a lot of historical reference in these games that they don't even teach in my high-school classes. Are you younger kids just playing for the thrill or do you actually understand what's going on?

Haha yes, my girlfriends little sister has been playing Unreal Tournament since she was 4 and started GTA at age 8.

But I don't necessarily mean "mature" in the terms of violence, but mature in plot. Assassins Creed has a lot of historical references and political insight that is impossible for a kid to understand and yet it obviously doesn't keep kids at bay.

I'm just wondering in terms of the industry as a whole, if it will ever be achievable to have the "Godfather" of games. I'm sure you haven't seen a kid grab his mom to go buy him Godfather at his local Blockbuster...

What they did say however, is that they were going to try and make the modern parts of the game more exiting, so, yes, it will be done like the 1st game.

SageXtreme

These forums are a mess.

1. There are two AC2 official threads. Why? Is there a reason for two???
2. Every thread that talks about AC2 is closed and says, "please post in the official AC 2 thread". Which one?! And what is the point of an AC forum?! Nobody is talking about AC1 anymore...
3. There is no Off Topic subforum to these forums. The AC Discussion is littered with spam threads, "POST A SMILEY PICTURE OF YOU SMILING! HEHEHE" and then it is 600 pages of the same 3 guys getting their post counts up
4. Too many Stickied threads! You don't need like four rule threads. No noob is going to read four pages. Have one that summarizes every rule.

But, it's obvious they don't give a crap about these forums. So why waste the tips of my fingers typing this.

Black_Widow9
05-04-2009, 02:44 AM
DNB-
The 2 threads began for different reasons. One was a teaser the second the official announcement. You say every topic about AC2 is closed and you are told to post in these two which is true because this is the AC forum. A little bit later in the game I'm sure there will be a AC2 forum but right now there isn't enough info out there for it to constitute it's own.
As far as the other threads, they have been on this board for a while and the Stickied Rules are on every Forum not just AC.
IMO, more people are playing AC now because they want to revisit it before the second one comes out. I know I am. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

One thing I hope they change is that in the first game, you could just walk around with a sword on your belt, and a short sword on your back, and the guards wouldn't care. Even if there was a pile of dead bodies next to you, as long as you pressed the "A" button to blend, any guards that come by would just ignore the fact that there is a pile of dead bodies near by, and you are the only one with a weapon.

In the new game they should make a guard awareness feature, where the guards would watch you more depending on what weapons you are holding. (I am saying this, because I saw in the Game Informer that you will be able to pick up weapons from dead guards, or get other weapons in some other way...)

there will be a certain type of guard who is a lil more paraniod of you then others and its the one with the halberd (spear) also there is a noteriety system that makes you more notorios in certain cities. but as far as guards noticing you because of your weapons, the only weapons that you will have to carry around is the dual hidden blades, and throwing knives.

All I hope is that AC2 doesn't have predictable game flow structure.
Is the only part of AC that eventually drove me to simply get the game over with. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Even if the game flow is meant to be some extended metaphor. One of cyclic behaviours being occurrences becoming nested within themselves...is kinda boring game flow. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

great, thank you

@ post saying AC1 was repetitive

they are totally reworking AC2 to make all of the missions be different, and more exiting. I read that in the AC2 Game Informer.

hmm..Does anyone remember how the wait for AC seemed like a lifetime? Well for that reason alone, i have decided to try and not follow AC2 like I did for Ac. I watched every footage, checked here several times a day, when to that private meeting down London, got a large cut out, pens and t-shirts and a model lol. Maybe the wait will be quicker?

But man this looks good. I think i'm gonna have to watch some game play if we ever get any lol

Any word on if they have managed to incorporate Day/Night cycle's into the game yet? The games producers are keeping their cards pretty close to their chests! Also perhaps changeable weather? And also will this sequel tie in with AC1 with Desmond, or perhaps another of the Assassins they had used the Animus on?

Judging by one of the pics in the mag, id say yea there is day and night. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

COMBAT:

Qu: "can you tell us how the combat system has evolved? is it a new style of combat to fit the period?"

Ans:" throughout history and all its different epochs, as well as in our game set in the renaissance, any fight to the death leads to survival and brutality, so any vicious hit is possible. you're a master assassin and your duty is to kill in any imaginable way. this is our vision of what the combat system should be. it is based on the first game, but with many more possibilities and strategy behind each encountr. players won't be able to simply button bash. there will be more thinking involved due to new different gaurd archetypes and weapons; you will have to strategically plan your every move, for example, if a brute is with a group of enemies, you should be very careful because his attacks are devastating. should you dispose of the brute first then the other guards, or try to escape hoping that some agile guards wont be pursuing?
its all up to you. each encounter will be unique considering all the new guard type, weapons moves and upgrades. all of this will add much to the complexity and the strategy for each combat or stealth approach.
there are many new skills in the fighting system without naming all the possible moves, ezio will have tonnes of fierce combat movements. he can master a great amount of weapons: long pikes, axes and warhammers to name a few. as those are heavy weapons ezio will not be able to carry all of them. he will be able to disarm his enemies and leave weapons behind. since ezio will not be carrying any weapons except for his hidden blade and knives, he will need to use his hands more efficiently when fighting. therefore Ezio will be able to fight using his bare hands against enemies anytime in the game and perform various punches kicks grab movements and headbutts"

ill type some more tommorrow or something http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hello, I have many suggestions for AC II but the main suggestion I would like to add is being able to get paid for assassinations which in turn let you buy better swords, Body armor(Under Robe), Bows, Knives/Arrows. Many people who i have been talking too about this game really want these features too I think that with those and more like co-op and smarter AI and better story plot and assassinations will make this game with out a doubt best game of the year, and even if COD 4 MW 2 comes it will if greatly beat it.

Okay, quick question.
I just saw the trailer for Angels&Demons and I'm curious on what the movie is about.
(We don't watch much TV in my family so we don't have cable or rabbit ears and crap. Our TV is strictly for movies and video games, since everyone in my house plays them)
^That's why I haven't seen the trailer till now.
How does this movie relate to Assassin's Creed 2?
Please explain. It looks really good.

Because Angels and demons and Assassins creed work in the field of conspiray theores(secret societies, the famous speculations of the Bible:the holy grail, the controversy regarding Jesus's escape to France with Maria Magdalena after his staged death etc).

They are books by Dan Brown. This is the Prequel to the The Da Vinci Code which was published first and imo it was a way better book than movie.
