Installation order. Patch management. Analyzing DXDIAG. Troubleshooting ad nauseam. I believe FB+AEP+PF is totally worth it, but. . . Everytime I go to install it, some glitch always finds its way whereby the end result is - the game doesn't launch. Yes, the installation itself goes find. Yes, I install in the correct order. Yes, I read the forums. But, why oh why doesn't it just work? My old WWII Fighters does. Microsoft Combat FS does. And no, they don't compare to IL2. Should I just punt and install 1946? Is the (1946) install less painful? Or is it the same old "install and pray". Please help.

1946 is less painful because:

1. All parts of the series install at the same time, directly from DVD. The 'insert disc 2' shuffle is no more.
2. You'll only have one entry in your registry instead of separate entries for FB, AEP and PF.
3. Most importantly perhaps -- I think this is the issue plaguing you right now -- is that the North American version of the 1946 DVD does not have copy protections. You don't need to have the DVD in the drive to run the game.
4. More planes and more maps. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Pacific Fighters has a copy protection included that is designed to keep people from copying the discs with CD-RW type drives. For many users this caused problems where the game wouldn't launch because there was CD copying or burning software also on the computer. UbiSoft first issued byzantine advice for a workaround solution, and soon after released a 'replacement rts.dll' for the game. You can find the link to it in my signature. They don't advertise how it works, but basically the game's CD-ROM is bypassed completely so you're simply launching the game from the harddrive. Try that and see if it fixes your problem. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'd like to add the infamous Patch Order - entire game series. Make sure you have it right! (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/4721047273) thread with download links. A similar patch guide can be found at Airwarfare.com in the FAQ section.

Dear Skycat_2:

Thanks a million!!! That rts.dll worked like a champ. I've always read the forums and now I'm a participant. I really do appreciate your help. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

So would it be beneficial to dump the old game(s) and just start fresh?

My Il2+FB+PF has always be a bit unstable.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
