Has anyone got what they consider to be a solid set of user defined controls? Thats one thing I found strange about this flight sim. We all know that flight sims take up quite a few keyboard commands but the IL-2 games only have what appears to be half of the keys set up, so I would like to see what the community recommends as far as what sort of keyboard layouts that are used. Any chance of a posting of your favourites?

Sure. I use a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick with a 'twisty rudder,' throttle slider, HAT switch, four action buttons on the base and four action buttons on the stick. I have my flaps up/down and view in/out plus bomb release, rockets and cannons mapped to the stick. I really like easy-to-remember combinations. NumPad is a 'top down' view of my plane for trim. I don't have multiple engines mapped.

Here's a legend for my key commands:

If you want to use my setup, you may cut and paste:

1. Go into Ubi Soft/IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles/Users folder and then open the 'doe' subfolder. Open the file named Settings in notepad.
2. Copy the lines I'm posting below and replace them into the appropriate area of the Settings document you have open -- don't worry, you can easily go back to default settings if you don't like my settings. Or make a backup of your Settings file first:

Thanks Skycat and Triad! I'm going to try out your controls. It good to be apart of such a devoted community where people take the time to offer suggestions to help out fellow gamers! I've been finally starting to enjoy IL-2 (full set) I didn't quite click with it the first time around, just reinstalled it this week, and I've started to get the hang of it finally, its quite rewarding, and I haven't even scratched the surface yet. Been downloading some new community missions and loads of new skins. So with that in mind, I'm off to see how good the new skins look, try some of the 'new' missions, and above all, get to grips with your control setup.

Cheers!

Skycat...I wanted to know if I could do the same thing as far as adding your setting controls within PF like you told the other gamer to do within IL-2....I appreciate you posting the setttings and I look forward to using them in PF.....

1. The controls map I posted is for Pacific Fighters specifically but it is backwards compatible with IL-2 Sturmovik, Forgotten Battles and Ace Expansion Pack.

2. You have my permission to use them any way you wish. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No problem. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I got to be thinking recently that I don't use the number keys on the main keyboard for anything, so I think those can now be assigned to multiple engines for piloting multi-engined aircraft. Isn't this a necessity for properly flying the Russian prop/rocket hybrid planes?

Multiple engines controls are now included in the commands listed above.

Hi folks. Great post. Very helpful.

However, my logitech joystick doesn't have as many buttons as yours (one short). Therefore, I map my last button to "Toggle FOV" in the game.

However, I'd like to set this up in the default config file. I can't figure out the syntax for the Toggle FOV command.

Obviously, your fovInc is increase field of view. fovDec is decrease field of view. I've tried a few combinations, and none of these worked:

toggleFov
toggleFOV
FovToggle
fovToggle
fovTog
togFOV
TOGGLE_FOV

Can anyone tell me the correct code?

Also, is there a list of all of the commands and their codes/syntax should I decide to map another unlisted item to a button in the default configuration file?

THANKS!

fovSwitch

What I did was assign Ctrl-P to Toggle FOV in Controls, then exit game, open Users\Doe\Settings.ini in Notepad, and searched for ctrl p.

The 'default configuration file'?
As far as I know there's no list of all functions/controls' names...
(Though there might as well have been one, as I've been thinkin' about building a tool called IL2-Keys, in which all controls can be listed, assigned, printed and such... but, a lot of work... )

Why not simply assign all controls, and when you are done and ready, copy Users\Doe\Settings.ini to Users\Default.ini? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

That should do what you are now trying to achieve step by step...
(Better make a backup copy of the entire Users folder first!)

(Note: Folder name 'Doe' is the default name, n case you've created a different Pilot in game, the folder name may be a different one!)

Have Fun!

Oh, and Welcome here! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Here are a few additions I made to my list, after I decided to include controls for the multi-engined planes:

NumberPad
7 = Select Left engines.
9 = Select Right engines.

Keyboard
0 = Select All engines.
9 = Unselect All engines.
1 = Select Engine #1.
2 = Select Engine #2.
3 = Select Engine #3.
4 = Select Engine #4.

Home = Jump to Cockpit #1 (Pilot).

I'm not a bomber expert, but this basic setup seems to work pretty well with the TB-3 as well as the B-25 and A-20.
