A guy a know from a different forum is thinking of getting this game, but he wants to know if anyone here has similar system specs.

He has:
2Ghz processor
512 Mb RAM
NVIDEA GeForce 4 MX 420 graphics card

If anyone has this card and similar specs, how does the game run on it?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I've used a 1.6ghz, 512mb and GF2GTS for FB/AEP and PF.

You can get decent frames so long as you use low terrain details, and no frills like anti-aliasing. Because of low RAM one has to avoid large maps and excessive number of objects in a mission.

I'd usually play online dogfight missions and simple missions that I'd make myself. I had no problems.

Flying around in downtown Berlin, or in a mission with lots of ship flak would slow the system to a crawl, though.

I've played FB on as little as a 450mhz, voodoo 3 and 256mb ram, with playable frames. So long as you stick with small maps and few objects, the game will run on anything. For huge battles on huge maps, you need a power PC.

I bought a new computer in anticipation of CFS3 and Forgotten Battles. Out of the box, the specs were similar to your friend's computer: 1.7 GHz Pentium 4, 512Mb SDRAM, and a GeForce2 MX 64Mb video card. CFS3 was released first, and I quickly discovered that my system wasn't enough to run that game to my liking. I immediately went out and bought another 512Mb of SDRAM and a GeForce4 Ti4600 video card and that made things a little better.

Then Forgotten Battles was released, and I found myself struggling with stutters, hiccups, pauses, etc., in that sim as well. Many of these problems were resolved over the years by updates, expansions and bug fixes by 1C, new video drivers from Nvidia, DirectX upgrades, etc. But to this day I still have to sacrifice eye candy -- I can't use Perfect settings -- and I have to reduce the number of air and ground objects in offline missions.

I can run 16 vs. 16 in QMB but frames get choppy when the combat starts; the same number of planes in DGen or DCG might be completely unplayable, depending on the map and mission.

Online, I haven't had any problems (outside of ping) but then again I've only played in dogfight rooms where the maps are small and the number of players usually doesn't exceed 16. Also, the other planes are human controlled instead of AI controlled, so I think this is naturally easier on the CPU.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

He should be able to run the original IL2 Sturmovick, maybe Forgotten Battles, but Pacific Fighters will be likely bog down his computer and I'm positive that the current IL2:1946 will likely be more of a slide show than a fluid sim. The CPU might be ok, but he is 512MB shy of having sufficient RAM these days and the video card is simply inadequate.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I use 2ghz
512mb ram
128mb gfx card
IL2 v4.071
And it runs fine on my pc, i use medium graffixs and can dogfight with 30 people before it is unflyable.
And most importantly is that online wars are not a problem.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I've a 1.5mhz P4, Nvidia FX5200 and 1gb RAM. More RAM really helped.

I can run on high settings as long as it's just me and a few other planes. Really, if there's more than maybe 10 planes in the air, flak, that sort of thing, it becomes un-playable, as such a lot of the missions available are too intense for my system. It still get way more than enough out of the game to make it worth playing pretty much every day.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

2.0 Ghz AMD Athlon
1 Gig RAM
128 MB RAM nVidia FX5500

Works well enough until I get in a Pacific Fighters fleet attack with tons of AAA. I have to slow the game speed to at least 1/2 to keep things reasonable.

Games have past my rig by though. I wanted to try the Steel Fury demo from another thread and it won't play.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
