Many have spoken about this in various threads so i thought Id make an offical thread to talk about it. Yes I used search and the threads I saw where from a while ago and since a lot has happenned, perhaps people got new opinions and such.

Day & Night Problem:
Yes it adds realism but the problem arises from the population. To stay true to the realism, the streets would be mostly empty since people would go to sleep (like they did in Fable) and assassinating someone during the night is not very public which would screw the whole "public assassination thing. Not only that, when you are running away from guards, the population becomes a serious obstacle. Without it, running away becomes easier and loses one of its very fun factors.

Weather (Rain/cloudy/sunny)
That would be fine and would work better than day and night. unless if it rains people might seek shelter which would empty streets bringing us to the earlier problem. Although it could add a dimension of slippery-ness to the universe making freerunning a little more difficult. Which brings a problem of how you would control your balance since freerunning is only holding a joystick.
The main problem with the weather change is that you would become aware of the passage of time and since night would never come, you would be conciense about that "flaw". But if it stays sunny the whole time, passage of time seems ignored. Asking the ppl who played it, I doubt they were wondering about night time while pickpocketing/killing/running/etc.

So really, yes Weather, night and day would add realism but I think it might bring more problems than advantages gameplay wise.

During the night cycle, couldn't they just make it to where there are certain missions that cannot be completed? They could probably just turn off some missions that are required in daylight once night falls.

If there's anything slow here then it's your brain development. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

It could be night time whilst traveling from city to city, or just during some of the cut scenes when you return to the assassin strong hold.

It's kind of common sense... the game takes place in summer... in the middle east... what the heck are the chances of snow? O.o unless Masyaf is on a really really tall mountain but then it would be a rather worthless base because it would take too much time to go up and down.

In terms of night, there is the possibility of having it impossible to get to certain targets, but still allow you to gather information through pickpocket or interrigation about their movements. Or, they could increase the overall number of guards or the guards alert level.

On the flip side, Ubi has said this is and action/adventure game, not a stealth-action game so nightime missions move it more towards the shadow stealth rather than the social stealth

Ha! Ha!

Kudos to the guy that thought I was serious when I said that I thought it would snow... >_>

I mean, honestly, you guys should know me by know.
If I'm going to state a theory, I will state it in detail, not in one stupidly vague line. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

P.S. I seem to be continuing in my state of grumpiness... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif
