View Full Version : If caught in searchlight beam...?

does it really have any adverse effects?
I normally try to break free if picked out, but now I'm wondering if it makes any difference.

(I always end up sitting on a barn roof next to my bouncing undercarriage anyway...)

If picked up, you should see a slight increase in AA fire accuracy.
In other words your plane will soon get full of holes and presumably the same applies to your pilot.

That's the thing that I'm not sure about. Do you get singled out more? I hope so, but I've not really noticed it...

If picked up by two lights then, you are defiantly dead. Gunners can then simply calculate your altitude and position by the angle of the lights. That is why you will always find them (reflector lights) in pairs.
I'm not sure how effective are whit only one light, but stay away from lights anyway.
A good tactic is to let other form your group go first, and then zoom in for the kill.

ingame i dont think it effects how aa guns target u or not. it does make it hard to see at times, or give u cool cockpit lighting http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Flak will automatically fire at the illuminated target, ignoring the others.

It seems the nighttime accuracy penalty is removed when firing at an illuminated target (they shoot as if it were day).

Being in the beam is a very bad thing.

Also, online youre seen from about a gazillion miles away http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But since FB+AEP+PF is open to gamma cheat its not really an issue. So here's hoping Oleg will implement conf.ini force gamma in BoB. And cheaters kicked. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif If an old game like Return to Castle Wolfenstein had it...why not BoB? Because right now, night missions are just a waste of time. At least online, since everyone just adjusts gamma to daylight brightness anyway.

Gamma kick wouldn't solve anything, as you can accomplish the same thing by turning up your monitor brightness.

It's not even remotely the same thing.

RTCW regulated the ingame gamma cvars, but it had no control over the gamma you set on the video card options out of the game.

Its like El Turo says, at least when i played RTCW back in the day, even putting the monitor brightness to max and adjusting contrast...you couldnt get the same results. Your monitor button settings only takes you to a certain level (it actually reminds me of that Spinal Tap joke about the amp that had knobs that went to 11 instead of 10.)

Yes, HellToupee, thats really what i meant. Implement in game gammma that can be controlled (by server admins for example). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Kill the searchlight ASAP; AAA might not get you, but online, fighters certainly will!

Other than what was already said, when your trying to dive bomb an area with the lights and some of them shine into your cockpit, they will blind you and badly.

yeah, i'm surprised no one else mentioned that. I will be trying to bomb an airfield and I have my head stuck in the bomb sight. I'll suddenly be blinded and won't know when to drop so i miss the target.

The front panel control doesn't but on CRT monitors at least there's another brightness control inside with a much broader range of adjustment, it goes from totally black screen to totally white screen. I don't recommend playing around inside CRT monitors, there are thousands of dangerous volts to kill you in there, but I've resurrected a couple of almost worn out monitors that way and also redeemed a low quality cheapo that came out of the factory with brightness set too low.
