I swear I lip-read some German crewman shouting "Achtung! Spitfire!" in there somewhere.

Cool, thanks.

It's always nice to see Dover getting it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Looking at that video makes me think, how insane man really is. Building all those little machines to do what? To destroy people and other manmade machines.

Makes one really skitzophrenic, when those same machines are so beautifull and fulls one's dreams of flying and being almost omnipotent with all that power (horsepower and firepower).

Great video though, altough some footage came two times and some was originally made only for propaganda purposes.

Hmm and if i may say, I dont remember "good ole US of A doing much in Malta or North africa.

Well done Uncle Sam, always guaranteed to join the winning team. Much like placing a bet on a 2 horse race when one horse has a broken leg and a 7.62 bullet rattling around somewhere in its Skull!

Bravo!

To be fair though at least he actually is aware that the Battle of Britain took place.

Cheers, Tonedog.

If England had waited until the good ol` US had arrived in the BOB, they would`ve been greeted by Germans in Britain , not British.

Sad commentary here. While both the US and England did not always share the battle, ie. Malta as mentioned, and for the U.S., say Midway, they both certainly did their fair share of hard fighting and overcame the odds. The truth of it is, neither could done as well as they did if not for each other, period!

You always accuse the Americans for trying to take all the glory in WW2. but I guess we could say the same for the brits and BOB.

How many pilots from other countries flew for the RAF in BOB? what about the Eagle Squadron? and the supplies from the US? For all we know the Germans might have been wiping their as*s with the Union Jack while sitting on a British flusher in England if it wasn't for the extra help. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Hey, no need to tar us all with the same brush, just because some people do it to you! Anyway, I've always been very grateful to those who few in the BOB. I know some of them but done a quick check, and apparently it stands something like this:

Polish 139
New Zealander 98
Canadian 86
Czechoslovakian 84
Belgian 29
Australian 21
South African 20
French 13
Irish 10
Unknown 8
American 7
Jamaican 1
Palestinian (Jewish) 1
Southern Rhodesian 1

While some brits may get carried away on the old nationalist front about it, i think most of us are aware of the foriegn contribution and are very grateful for it!

Its stuff like this that makes me ashamed at how the allies stuffed those like the poles who did so much at the end of the war. Politics. Bleargh.

Still, its all history now.. not that you'd think so when we get all carried away here... We can all wave our flags, but just about all countries have something in their past that they'd rather forget as well. Hubris will get us all yet http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Nice video, eh? Some of that footage wasn't from the BoB, wasn't there a Spanish Civil war He-111e, with the command cabin thing, but it all makes a lovely little vid.

Nice video.

Nice.

Be nice.

The Eagle squadrons weren't formed until after the Battle. As Marc_Hawkins has already posted the Number of US Pilots Flying at that time was... seven.

But they were movie stars, and so they accounted for 97% of German losses. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Excuse me please but did not Australians win war?

First to beat Germans-Tobruk

First to stop Japanese-Milne Bay and Kokoda

After these battles war begin to go other way, is fact indisputable! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Australia was really only good at stopping offensives, not launching their own.

As a nation we seem to like it most when we are the underdogs. Our most famous military achievements aren't great offensives or conquests or campaigns. Instead we celebrate a defeat (Gallipoli) and two defensive stalemates (Tobruk and Kokoda) as our greatest military achievements.

We never would of stopped the Germans in Tobruk without British support, nor the Japanese without the USN victory in the Battle of the Coral Sea. Australia would never win anything, but we would make it bloody hard for the other b*stards to win!

Its funny that ImpstarDuece, as the UK is exactly the same. must of picked up the habit togever! While now and again we bask in the glow of a victory, usually its because we percieve ourselves as the underdog in it, truth or not! must account for the number of times 'Zulu' is shown on TV! (though there the truth is after all that after one brilliant action, much like the native americans at little bighorn, the zulu nation didn't really stand a chance...)

Can't say i'm overly looking forward to the cruise BOB film. No dig at our american contingent honest, but after the **** that was U571 you gotta be suspicious...

If it's got shed loads of action I don't mind if it bends the truth slightly for dramatic purposes. The Billy Fisk story is about people going out of their way to do the right thing when it would've been alot easier not to bother, as long as the film conveys that then one version of the 'truth' will be maintained.

The bright side is it's a big league film about the BoB which can't be a bad thing. The only bit I'm worried about is how sensitively the volley ball scene is going to be portrayed. Get that wrong and it'll blow the whole thing.

-post about WW2 topic

-someone blurbs "well if it weren't for X, then Y wouldn't have happened"

-then someone says "well don't forget to factor A, B, C"

-then the topic is hijacked

BTW, I like the video. Couldn't tell by the grainy video, but those were P-51s winning the day, right? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif
