View Full Version : TrackIR Vector Expasion/TrackClip...alternatives to wearing a hat?

Hey all--

Have any of you TrackIR4 users come up with an alternate way to wear the TrackClip? Wearing a hat (or even a visor) is annoying (musses with the hair) and is hot (I live in Phoenix and have cruddy air conditioning).

Currently, I have TrackIR2 and have mounted a large foam ball covered in reflective tape to a short dowel on the top of my headphones/mic set (which has a headband going across the top of my head to both ears--standard stuff).

I'm just looking for suggestions from users.

Thanks.

Hey Chivas--

How did you do mount it to the top of your headphones? (this could be one of those "picture is worth a thousand words" scenarios).

Just treat the head-band on the headphones like the rim of a hat. There's even a setting in the software for headphone vs. hat mounted vector clip.

OK, cool. Having only seen it pictured with a hat, I just didn't understand how it would hook on. You guys are basically saying..."Don't worry about it!"

Now I just have to decide if getting 4 used from a friend is worth it (vs. the 2 that I have now). If I only knew when Storm Of War would be released, it might make this decision easier. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

You can buy reflective stickers from natural Point for a few dollars. I made a japanese kamikaze bandana type thing (complete with red circle and script) and stuck 3 stickers in a triangle on that.

Yes I looked awesome.

Why is this written in past tense? Missus decided to wash it. I'm back to geek antlers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I bought a cheap pair of non-prescription weak reading glasses from a chemist and stuck a reflector on the nose bridge before upgrading to 6dof.
Best wishes.
John.

I was talking with one of the Natural Point reps at a recent trade show and he said they would be releasing a headset mounted version...he thought by December, 2006. I guess we'll see...

This is what my Siamese cat looks like to TrackIR,

So now all u need to do is get a cat eye transplant and never have to wear a hat with a shinny ball again.

I recently added vector to my TIR3Pro and I really don't like the fact I can't get it to slow down. due to the refelctors are on the bill of the hat and it exagerates the spead I turn my head.

Last night I put the reflector braket on top of my head set. This works very well, it slows the head speed down, and I never lost tracking once, using the stock Vector Bracket, no Balls added.

Only problem is I look like a Martian with it on.

I use a visor like the ones you can attand at a sports store. It will support he vector expansion device and the visor acts like a sweat band when your in a intense dogfight. The trackir does has a speed control to make it move slower though. So IMHO the bill of the visor will not affect speed of the movement. Cheers http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

That would be my advice. Get a visor instead of a hat. Or, feline-corneal implants.

I've slowed it all the way down, not usre how to make it slower. The Vector is just alot more sensitive, compared to the no Vector. I guess.
No Big deal I am getting used to it and am slowing my self down to compensate.

I have TR4 Pro and have gotten used to looking like a complete idiot with the open cap and metal thingy which makes me look like a refugee from a UFO convention. Add flying goggles for "immersion" and you want to be sure you don't go to the door in this rig....
