Hey all,

I am trying to remember some songs I heard about that were apparently popular in WW2 about the various planes. The only one I remember was ...

"Don't give me a P39
don't give me a P39
it'll stall
it'll spin
it'll auger right in
don't give me a P39"

Any help with the others?

Go to the Oscar Brand songs (http://www.drinkingsongs.net/mp3s/1950s/oscar-brand.htm) website and you can hear excerpts of several such songs....and can buy the "Out of the Blue" and "Wild Blue Yonder" albums probably quite cheaply.

Here's an excerpt of the song you are thinking of:Give Me Operations (http://members.cox.net/doolittle80/04%20-%20Give%20Me%20Operations.mp3)

Here are the full lyrics:

Don't give me a P-38
the props, they counter-rotate
they're scattered & sittin'
from Burma to Britain
don't give me a P-38
NO

give me operations
way out on some lonely atoll
for I am too young to die
I just wanna grow old

& don't give me a P-39
the engine is mounted behind
she'll tumble & spin
& she'll auger you in
don't give me a P-39
NO

don't give me a Peter 40
it's a hell of an airplane, I know
she's a ground looping *******
& you're sure to get plastered
don't give me a Peter 40
NO

don't give me an 86-D
with rockets, radar & AB
she's fast, I don't care
she blows up in mid-air!
don't give me an 86-D
NO

& don't give me an F-84
she's just a ground loving *****
she'll whine & she'll wheeze
& make straight for the trees
don't give me an F-84
NO

(chorus)

"Don't give me a P.11c,
don't give me a P.11c,

DO google searches, and try various combinations and expect to find them about every single plane, from every side, about every unit, and kind of unit (noticed one in an above link entitled "NewGuinea Strafers")...and so on including every nationality.

Think about it....Kids today make up sings applied to music available. That's with music blaring at us from all angles 24/7. In those days music, even radio time itself was a luxury. The guys flying and fighting were mostly kids.....So be it a tune that became well known or would only be remembered by a few, they're out there.

Would be a good project to work on....Aircraft/Air Unit Songs of WWII. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
