Before you start if your here to moan or say something pointless, there dont bother!

If everything on this game interactive and you cant swim then i guess that means there will be no water?
How far can you really run into that kingdom? until your stopped?

maybe a comedic line or something about how he doesn't have time to swim...or maybe they pull a spider man where if you go in it you just end up on the shore...but ya, thats a good question on how i dunno we'll have to wait and see theres only like 353 hours left if your waiting for the north american launch.

I'm guessing you'll drown and have to continue from the last save.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/351.gif Drowning. Maybe Altair never learned how to swim. Drowning is a very effective way to stop you going in the water

Yeah... Lakitu just loves fishing for assassins... >_>

Wow... what is wrong with people these days?
Ignoring the fact that you can't swim on a game... why does it bother you so?

Dos it make a difference?
No.

Anyway... I think it will be like Ultimate Spiderman, where you just see him climb out of the water near the edge of the land.

But even better, I think it will just reload your last save point. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

You got it all wrong. As soon as you hit knee-deep water, Altaïr, instead of drowning or respawning, gets out his surfboard and heads for the waves!

I'm hoping that it will be something like Spiderman where you just reload at the shore.

It is possible though that we won't see any water. In Acre, we may be restricted to the part of the city that isn't near the water.

You do see water. In the Kingdom anyway. I didn't try to drown Altair, so I have no insight on his behavior when drowning (the game tester stopped me from jumping into a river with my horse...)

What would be the purpose of Altair being able to swim, except for maybe a quick shortcut? Unless there are some flags at the bottom of the cove, or more throwing knives to collect, then Altair not being able to swim won't bother me.

I reckon, if you go in the water, you have to start the whole game again. You see your save games float away, and you drown xD

In my opinion I think they will probably let you walk out into water if its shallow enough. If you jump into a river or something it'll probably kill you. I belive I read somewhere that the majority of people in the Egypt throught to India region couldn't swim back then.

From a game mechanic standpoint I think that the Ubi team either were going for a historically correct setting (a la previous paragraph) or they knew that if they allowed players to swim it would get exploited (swimming to the edge of the world). They would also have had to make the decision weather or not to allow players to swim in 3D or just skim along the surface, both options having their problems.

Simply put water is a ***** to control in a game.

ole_slayer
10-29-2007, 11:57 AM
yeah. most likly u wont be able to swim. You will just come against an invisiable wall thats stops u entering the water. Unless its all hush hush and u can swim, and ur horse can too, like in oblivion. Or the water has sumfin to do with the sci-fi thing? but i doubt it.

Umm, for everyone asking about "what does it matter, it makes no difference, etc" yes it does.

For a game centered around escaping/losing sight so you aren't found, being able to jump into the water and hide would make perfect sense and I could definitely see various reasons why it would work and make sense in the scope of the gameplay.

Imagine the guards and people chasing after you near the port and you run and dive off a tower, but since there is water below you don't "splat" and just go under and then can get away more easily.

pgsmitty
10-29-2007, 07:16 PM
I agree it does matter but for a very negative reason. They have already made everything land based a giant sand box, if they were to include water as well, it would be too much for either consoles to handle not to mention it would be too large to fit on DVD or blu-ray. And from a programmers stand point, interaction with the water is a big thing. Its just to much of an overload to deal with right now.

Devtek
10-29-2007, 09:24 PM
I find it very hard to believe (no matter what is portrayed in the game) that someone as trained as Altair would not be able to swim. I can jump off buildings, climb anything, throw daggers with 100% accuracy and my ability to survive depends on escaping from any number of situations but if I see a body of water I go "A SHHHHIT" and accept I'm going to die.

It'd be nice if there were some puddles or a small creek or something that you could splash around in without killing yourself.

Ok sorry but I have to use math to prove my point. The human body increases 12 mph for every second it falls which means that when Altair hit the bale of hay after a 3 second fall he was traveling 36 mph.(In the Montferrat Demo) The water to the left of him is at least twice as far of a fall which would mean that a 6 second fall would put him at at least 72 mph.
Water becomes cement at 70 mph thus killing Altair. Physics is fun. Happy Assassinations everyone http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Yeah. Why get wet when you can do something cooler when dry? I personally resent swimming, so it's all good to me. :/

And for those of you who haven't looked at the Trip to Montreal thread, JediBaja managed to drown Altair and said that Altair tries to swim, but then drowns, then you respawn.

Maybe it goes more into the sci-fi twist than we expect.

And we figure out Altair is actually a robot and when he jumps in he gets electricuted along with everything else settling in the water.

I read a few posts in here a while ago, But i haven't read any of the new ones so if i say something someone already said.. it's whatever.

For one, I'm kind of glad you can't swim. If anything, In this game, Swimming would really be a novelty. Sure it might make you feel more like you can "do anything" but still if you really thought about it, It would be pretty lame, First off... There are almost no games where swimming looks "natural" it's basically a small animation repeated over and over again, And on top of that the animation itself doesn't usually look very good, Plus. The visual difference between the part your body that is out of the water and what is IN the water is ALWAYS awful, So, theres no true reason 2 do it, And it would be lame anyways.

Could you imagine Altair swimming anyways? That would be ridiculous lol... You run through a whole city, Jumping over buildings and climbing windows... Then you jump in the water and dog paddle your way 2 the docks...

And for the reason? I think it might be because somehow it shorts out something that gives you the ability 2 look back in the past? It's probably wrong but whatever...

A. why don't they make a the game so that he can swim?(i know know its allready complete...)
do it any way please...

B.i wish there will be comic relife like... he is afraid of water or that in those times not every one know how to swim or that for silly reason the fact he can't read means he can't swim(all so a thing many people in that time didn't know how to do...)

it will be like a catch fraise or even a gimic of the known fans of the game... like in the "Monkey Island" series were he is afraid of porselen... and after 4 games we still don't know why...

people will put it in the "you know your obssesd with AC when you...

and all will be forgiven in the fact of no swiming thingy...
===

maby they decided the times you will have a chance to interact with water and the fact it isen't a big part of the game is a waste of time to make that ability...

we useally are in a city... or in the desert....

lol!!!!!!!! just thgout about what if altair jumps into the thing that horses drink out of and drowns!!!

No you can fall in the water...it has been proven by the people that played the game...you drown, then you respawn where you jumped off.

I'm hoping that it will be something like Spiderman where you just reload at the shore.

It is possible though that we won't see any water. In Acre, we may be restricted to the part of the city that isn't near the water.

If EVERYTHING you see is interactive then there isnt a place in a city we cant get to, is there?

Also the guy who said about the cliff divers:
When did they decided altair would be a pro diver?

Supporting invisible walls? They are the most frustrating things on games, you think your escaping when bam u the air hits you and you get killed by guards. I think that swimming on this game would be good, not because its good itself but because it makes the game more realistic!

wow....your gonna get flamed not for being a ******. It did not show him swimming, it showed him free running on objects that were placed in the water. And does no one else remember Patrice saying that "water is kryptonite"? (or something along those lines) You can't swim, get over it or go cry in a corner and don't buy the game, the rest of us will have fun.

i think that you will be able to swim or at least hold your breath under water for a small amount of time, it would be incredibly useful when trying to escape.
it would really suck if yo died right away

like stix489 said you drown and respawn, some from gamereactor.dk a danish game magazin did try it yesterday and one of them did get the question about water,

maybe you can't swim because there's no water deep enough to swim in. Momma says, "back in 1911 AD the oceans were still fillin' up" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

either that or perhaps he can walk on the bottom of the ocean floor, like a hippo
