I have compiled a playlist for Windows Media Player to play in background while playing SH3, Gramaphone not loud enough.
One of my favorite songs is the Russian Navy Hymn from the Red Army Choir. I love the song, but don't Know what the words mean.
Why listen too Russian music, I am a FAN of "Crimson Tide", and they use Russian music from Hans Zimmer.
I was wondering if there was anybody fluent enough to translate that song for me. I only have shared version of song, so I have no lyrics . Maybe I'm asking too much, but I am so into this game and the people on this website that I feel I can ask such a question. This Site is like my new family. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

Is that the song at the start of the movie? Isent that the USSR antem? If it is, it should be easy to find a translation.

Russian is my first language, so if you want, send me the song, I'd gladly translate it for you. My email is foehammer1@hotmail.com And I haven't heard those songs for a loooong time now.

Speakig of which, it may very well be the USSR anthem. Does it include something like "Otechestvo nashe svobodnoye bratstvo" in it?

Ok, I sent you an email. And for all others, the song sounds like gibberish to me, kinda The Sims- style. I was able to make out half a sentence that was constantly repeated. I'll post if I can make out more words http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Scratch the above post, I was able to make out the words. Here I got the Russian lyrics the way I hear them (in English letters mind you, and my best translation into English below

Holodno, hmuro I mrachno v dushe;
Kak mog znat’ ya, shto ti umryosh’?

Do svidania, bereg rodnoy â€"
Kak nam trudno predstavit’, shto eto ne son.
Rodina â€" dom rodnoy,
Do svidania, Rodina.

I v pohod i v pohod nas volna morskaya jdyot ne dojdyotsa.
Nas zavut marksaya dal’ i priboy!

Salyut otsam i nashim dedam,
Zavyetam ih vsegda verni.
Teper’ nishto ne ostanovit
Pobedniy shag rodnoy strani.

Ti plivi, plivi besstrashna
Gordost’ Severnih Moryey.
Revolyutsii nadeshda, sgustok vyeri vseh lyudey.

V Okytabre, v Okyabre,
Reportuyem mi nashi pabedi.
V Okytabre, v Okyabre, noviy mir dali nam nashi dedi.

In English

It's cold, sad and dark in my soul,
How could I know that you will die.

Good bye, dear home shore,
it’s so hard to believe it is not a dream;
Motherland- native home.
Good bye, dear Motherland.

And the sea wave cannot wait 'till we go on a combat trip
We are called by the vast sea and thundering waves!

We salute our fathers and grandfathers;
We will always follow their advice;
And now nothing will stop
The victorious march of our country.

Sail, sail without fear,
proudness of the Northern Seas (proudness- not a real word. Basically the seas are proud of you)
The hope of the Revolution, concentration of beliefs of the people.

In October, in October
We report our victories
In October, in October, our grandpas gave us a new world.

(Meaning in October revolution which happened in November)

National hymn or Navy Hymn? What that crew sang in the Red October is the National Hymn. The other background theme is the Red October Hymn when the Typhonn entry in the river in the final scene.Honesty, I dont like too much this propaganda film ,but I like as always the performing of Sean Connery.

NATIONAL ANTHEM(or HYMN)

Thatâ´s the version of 1944(Stalin times)

United forever in friendship and labour,
Our mighty republics will ever endure.
The Great Soviet Union will live through the ages.
The dream of a people their fortress secure.

Long live our Soviet motherland,
Built by the people's mighty hand.
Long live our people, united and free.
Strong in our friendship tried by fire.
Long may our crimson flag inspire,
Shining in glory for all men to see.

Through days dark and stormy where Great Lenin lead us
Our eyes saw the bright sun of freedom above
And Stalin our leader with faith in the people,
Inspired us to build up the land that we love.

Long live our Soviet motherland,
Built by the people's mighty hand.
Long live our people, united and free.
Strong in our friendship tried by fire.
Long may our crimson flag inspire,
Shining in glory for all men to see.

We fought for the future, destroyed the invaders,
And brought to our homeland the laurels of fame.
Our glory will live in the memory of nations
And all generations will honour her name.

Long live our Soviet motherland,
Built by the people's mighty hand.
Long live our people, united and free.
Strong in our friendship tried by fire.
Long may our crimson flag inspire,
Shining in glory for all men to see

Thatâ´s is the version of 1977

Unbreakable Union of free-born Republics
Great Russia has welded for ever to stand,
Thy might was created by will of our peoples,
Now flourish in unity, great Soviet Land!

REFRAIN:
Sing to our Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong!
The Party of Lenin, the strength of our peoples,
To Communism’s triumph lead us on!

Through tempests the sunrays of freedom have cheered us
Along the new path where great Lenin did lead.
To a righteous cause he raised up the peoples,
Inspired them to labor and heroic deeds.

REFRAIN

In the victory of Communism’s deathless ideals
We see the future of our dear Land,
And to her fluttering scarlet banner
Selflessly true we always shall stand!

REFRAIN

The text was again changed and adapted after the 2000 and this is the current version.

Thank you Danelov for bringing my old post back to life. It is interesting to see throughout the years, the changing of the lyrics as to the changing of the times. I was beginning to wonder if the song was real, or just written for the movie.

- as Russian language experts most probably you felt this terrible accent and voice of Red October's crew !
Everytime I see it in TV I have the same remark to very good movie !

I laughed a couple times... expecially when the american guy who doesn't smoke asks a Russian crewmember for a cigarette. And the Russian's reaction

Yes, the beginning of HFRO is the USSR national anthem, used to have it on my cell for my russian friend. As for Crimson Tide, its an excellent movie, not highly recognized because its not a "common role" for Washington, however incredible and highly intense. K-19 Window Maker was somewhat dissappointing, but more in Ford's horrible accent.
