View Full Version : NON-release announcements about re-make of WTCF

I've talked to administration at M4T about a little problem with the re-make of WTCF- called "white sun, blue sky"-

it's about 50% complete, and it's already too big for regular upload to the site. Compressed, it might just squeak in, but like I say, it's only 50% done. The campaign folder alone- with new medals, custom campaign branch, etc- is over 65MB as it sits on my hard drive. That doesn't include skins- of which I have roughly 50 so far. Box-Weasel just sent me some fantastic new Ki-43 skins which I'll incorporate, and Elephant_il2 sent me some killer AVG pilot skins which will also be included. I haven't totaled them up yet, but there will be upwards of 85 custom skins with the campaign, many made by yours truly, and others made by real skinners

SO- the campaign may be released in three parts, for ease of upload and download. I'm about 50% certain of this right now, I have to weigh the pros and cons. BUT- I am almost certain the skins will be be seperate from the campaign, as it just seems like way too much to deal with all at once. The bright side- this means I'll almost certainly be releasing, as I see it now, a total of 8 "skin packs"-

1 for each of the three squadrons' worth of H81s
1 for the Ki-43s
1 for the "Ki-48s" (SB2M-100as actually, one will likely really be an SB2M-100a, in CAF markings)
1 for the P-40Es
1 for P-40Cs (so the player can fly H81s with jury-riggged bomb racks)
and
1 Miscellaneous pack, with pilot skins, C-47s, an "Empire Flying Boat" (H8K), and maybe one or two others

So it looks like the skins will be available before the campaign. I'm pretty sure this will be how it works

The skins I can have all set fairly quickly I think, but not this week- it's Thanksgiving here in the US

I would have liked to have all this done (campaign too) by Christmas, but with the '46 release push-back, it looks like I won't have a chance of doing that

Also in relation to all this- I plan on retiring this user-name on December 23rd. This is the day that my hero, Charles Older, engaged the Japanese in combat for the first time, as a member of 3rd PS, First AVG. Mr. Older died not long ago, and I have been planning this retirement for some time out of respect for him and his memory

I will still be here, just not with this name

For those interested, I am keeping a more or less regularly updated progress report on this campaign at M4T. Here's a link:

http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=132

I'm trying hard to keep this campaign as true to real events as I can, but I still need to make gameplay concessions unfortunately. It bugs me to do it, but I made the decision to do it in WTCF and nothing's changed that affects that so...unfortunately "Loiwing" is still in "Burma" in my world, and "Mingaladon" and "Toungoo" could easily change places in my world, too- but if I did the former, there would be more airstarts (which I despise), and the latter would never let the player get to altitude in time so...those flaws must stay, although I don't like it

I am confident you will love this campaign if you liked WTCF at all, as WSBS makes WTCF look like the proverbial bucket of puke. I playtested the first third this weekend and I'm confident I have corrected all flaws for the segment, of which there were many. I made it through 18 missions without getting killed though- 22 kills. I got over-confident fighting those damned biplanes...

Thanks for the update, Chuck. Really enjoyed WTCF & truly appreciated the work that went in to it. Looking forwards to your next release very much, sure it will be worth the wait. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I actually wanted to release something totally different, but I had to get this out of my system first. I wanted to do a LW campaign from Poland to the fall of Berlin, with Greece, North Africa, Channel Front, eastern front, etc, you'd be one of the pilots that got moved from place to place a lot...a touch ambitious, I outlined it at about 150 missions. Maybe I'll just do Poland to the Battle of Britain. I'd like to skin some of the Polish planes, and the Battle of France is so tempting<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I'm impressed with the amount of work put forth in WTCF. It seems this remake is gonna be a showstopping hum dinger of a campaign!!!!!!!!

I can not wait for this Chuck. (Well I'll have to I guess http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

Nice tribute to Chuck Older by retiring Chuck Older's name...&lt;S&gt; What's your new name gonna be...or are you going to go by your Sim HQ name?

El, how would you feel about looking over the first 1/3rd for me? I don't need a playtesting team this time, but I do need a set of eyes that aren't mine

With the whole shebang running out of a campaign branch that doesn't come with it's own folder in the sim, I need a reality check. Interested?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Chris,
If you might be at all interested, I was planning on making a Battle of France remake of the Team Normandie Mega Template, splitting the Normandie 3 template map into thirds, making the Eastern 1/3 Blue and the remaining 2/3's Red/"French", using whatever static planes appropriate into "French" aircraft.
If interested PM me and we can get the particulars straight.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Found this info at answers.com:

Born February 20, 1925, in Kansas City, MO, Altman was educated in Jesuit schools prior to joining the Army at the age of 18; over the course of WWII, he flew over 50 bombing missions in Borneo and the Dutch East Indies.

And NNDB lists this:

Military service: US Army (1943, WWII, bomber pilot)

Interesting that so many men of, as Tom Brokaw calls them, The Greatest Generation, served and never made much noise about their service later on in life. I'm always surprised to learn that so and so famous person was a bomber pilot, combat officer, or etc, in World War II.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
