Looking for refined graphics, superb weather modeling, improved/refined damage and flight modeling, and lots of the little things that make it more fun.

Also BTW regarding the Wellington and size:

Vickers Wellington
Length: 64 ft 7 in (19.68 m)
Wingspan: 86 ft 2 in (26.26 m)
Height: 17 ft 6 in (5.33 m)

Boeing B-17
Length: 74 ft 4 in (22.66 m)
Wingspan: 103 ft 9 in (31.62 m)
Height: 19 ft 1 in (5.82 m)

The B-17 is a much larger aircraft. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be interesting to have a Wellington although as workhorse RAF bombers go I'd rather see a Halifax.

You guys have covered most of my feelings, however, what I really want is to be as bowled over as I was the first time I played IL2 back in 2001.

I want SOW to make IL2/1946 to look so totally outdated and, well, bad, that I will uninstall it without a second thought.

That's what I want.

Yup, second that.

I also hope that all the ground detail won't kill framerates so that you need a brand new computer just to run it..!

Better start saving for that new rig now.

It's not just the ground details that will crush an older computer.

Be sure.

Realistic high altitude performance, with sensible behaviour at high Mach number.

Realistic aircraft structural limits - aircraft in IL2 are much too strong as they can all survive up to 15 g.

I mainly want the AI defensive gunners' accuracy reduced to historical Real Life levels; fighter vs fighter (not counting the Me-110 as a fighter), the current version of Il-2 is fairly satisfactory, but as soon as the player has to face a formation of enemy bombers, realism and a fair chance of success goes out the window.

I EXPECT superior visual effects, maps, FMs and DMs. I DESIRE a chance to use the real, historically proven Battle of Britain RAF antibomber tactics (and ranges) and still be successful.

I learned my lesson with the transition from the original Il-2 Sturmovik to Forgotten Battles-while the graphics were better, the AI were execrable, the FMs and DMs were in too many cases questionable, and it took almost two years (and four large patches) for FB to be more playable than the original.

I won't be buying the first week, or probably even the first month, until I'm satisfied that the ai are reasonably improved. As an off-liner, that is the most important component for immersion.

If the forums report that the Me-110 and the Defiant are the most dangerous fighters in the game and that you cannot possibly survive three missions into an RAF fighter campaign, my 50+ bucks is staying in my pocket.

cheers

If Storms of War is a major upgrade over IL-2 1946, I hope the upgrades will trickle down to the IL-2 platform and that SOW will include IL-2 and all of its upgrades much like IL-2 1946 included all expansions and iterations of IL-2.

I also hope SOW will not only focus on the Battle of Britain, but finally include the Channel Front battles 1941-1945, including the Dieppe air battles, the German fighter-bomber raids into Britain 1941-1942, the British Rodeos 1941-1942, and the US bombing raids 1942-1945. I also hope IL-2 and/or SOW will result in the air battles of North Africa eventually.

I want anything regarding SA who is not in 1946:

- No more black dots looking upward, no more invisible plane looking downward.

- A sun that really works, in 1946 you can still see the dots. A sun that blinds you when you are watching anything in its direction.

- No more engine radar: finally we can aim correctly from 100m without alerting the guy ahaed.

- Better clouds (but IL2's ones are nice)

- Realistic fatigue and other things like oxigen and temperature who affect the pilot.

A real engine management (that in 1946 it's very poor)

Less arcadish FMs.

Most points I wish for have been covered especially bomber gunners. Although this current aspect does force you to think about your approach.
I do hope the ground detail is not too extensive and computer hungry that it detracts from the flight aspects as it is after all a flight sim. Most programming should concentrate on the aerial matters.

A better and with more immersion offline experience, including good dynamic campaigns, nice between-mission stuff, etc. Ah, and no more robocop gunners.

But sincerely, given the actual look of things, I'd be glad just having it released someday.

EcoDragon,

Thanks for that link.

The Extra may (or may not) be a better plane, but that Sukhoi is a tonic for my eyes and music to my ears.

Can't wait to fly it in the virtual sky.

I would like every aspect of SoW to not "feel" like a PC game/sim. I want a totally realistic experience and feel that PC power has come far enough for this. It is only a matter of the developer to put in the time and effort, something Oleg and team are doing, to make sure every aspect is just like real.
I want to feel like a WW2 pilot, not like I am playing a game or flying a sim.

Less "Dogfight this, Furball that" fetish (= fighter fixation in gameplay and development) and a concentration on the simulation of aerial warfare.

personally, i like a LOT redone, but most of it

won't be done, such as:

AI Gunners Aim (night and day)

weapons failures

good CEM

Good FM + DM

No more black dots at 3km out, and actually being able to get a visual on target if they are below me(ie. im facing straight down)

no more bombs that stick in your plane if dropped on you, although it is nice for a "What Now" moment

Woke_Up_Dead

Great AI and a bit of a story would really help the immersion offline.

I would like to be able to choose what kind of ammo I feed into my belt. I want to decide if I want tracers or not: yes to help me aim, or no so that my target does not know where the bullets are coming from.

Someone mentioned wanting to be unable to hear an enemy engine when he's close, I second that.

I would also like a closed-pit/open-pit hybrid: closed pit (no wonder-woman view possible), but with the arrows on the edge of the screen.

I would like to have the option to turn on external views for my plane only so that I can still admire my plane and help my situational awareness a bit without being able to spy my enemies' positions.
