Hi folks

This has been probably asked about a million times, but I'll ask anyway.
I like my little I16. I've been flying nothing else for the past few months and I think I'm ready to make the step to on-line play. What I was wondering is, are there any noob friendly arenas to play in or should I just toss myself to the sharks.
Settings are not an issue as I play full real(except for icons).
I signed up at hyperlobby, but when I say noob alert, thats just what I mean. I've never played anything but Diablo II online before and a lot of the terms go right over my head. Any plain english explanations would be helpful.

Thanks for any help, Chuck 994

go here... http://www.airwarfare.com/guides.htm

Read some of the guides about online play...I think there is one there with online ediquitte... find a server that has the settings you like and remember the following...

1. read the rules in the beginning
2. do not team kill or steal kills from team mates
3. take off on taxi ways...land on runways
4. S! means salute
5. have fun

Oooh, Diablo! I remember that!

Just tie a porkchop to your belt and jump in with the rest of us sharks!

Go to HyperLobby and try GreaterGreen for some battlesets that rotate and sometimes include the little Ishak (among the favorites in our squadron) or join a squadron in one of the online wars like, Forgotten Skies or Bellum.

They fly Co-Ops so they are more forgiving to "Noobs", God I hate that term, and more willing to take you under their wing.

The main thing is, though, not to worry about how badly you might think you'll do. No matter how often I play this thing online (and that's been for as long as the original IL2 demo) I always get my rear handed to me eventually. Since it'll always be that way I don't give it a thought.

BTW: we always have room for a new squaddie.

If you're interested in learning the ropes and joining up with a group that, albeit small, emphasises teamwork and fun send me a private message or email.

We fly I-16's, Cobras, Stormoviks, and Mustangs, actually as long as it has guns we fly it, but those are the planes we specialise in.

Once you've had a read of the guides suggested by Bull_dog_, jump in with the sharks. The first couple of weeks will be really frustrating, but it's the quickest way.

ignore the messages that say "cheating has been detected"

its to do with ping or packet loss, nobody actually cheats in FB

Thanks for the quick responses everyone.

What a wealth of information airwarfare is. I was lost for hours in there.

Uh, Deathkick?

Once I get "real life"stuff out of the way, and have a couple of uninterupted hours on my hands, I look forward to flying with (or against) y'all.

Thanks for all, Chuck994

Warning to you: When the game says "Cheating Detected" its a Russian translation...it means that there is lag. Thats all.

Wait till the next patch. Right now WAY too much UFOism going on.

No one wants to admit it, but some folks don`t play kosher online. (Yes, even in AEP/PF there are cheaters about!)

For those of you Hard-Core Fans who do not believe my last comment, Would you like to buy some beach front property in Arizona???

S!,
Deathkick is an option initiated by Sparx and his Warclouds server. The deathkick comes into play if your pilot is killed or captured during the game. You will be kicked from the server and unable to rejoin the server for 3minutes. While this may seem harsh, it does make one fly more cautiously and carefully if you care to stay in the server for longer periods of time. Additionally, it helps promote teamwork amongst team mates.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif this is questionable sometimes for bomber pilots http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Give WarClouds a try. It may seem intimidating at first, but you'll learn to appreciate it after some stick time.

The downside for you though will be the lack of the i16. Although, WarClouds does offer an alternative server called WarClouds_ToH (touch of history) which includes varying planeset depending on the theater and year.
