Well, you'll never learn to play the sim if you keep crashing the game. I've done this once in what...5 years?...by overloading the FMB- this most likely is not your problem http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So let's get the game running properly first, and then get you flying

We should start with your PC and it's specs. What is your PC, what does it have for hardware, OS, etc, and what version of the sim are you playing? the Orignal Il*2 Sturmovik, Il*2 Sturmovik:Forgotten battles, Pacific Fighters? Il*2 Sturmovik with Aces expansion pack? Pacific Fighters? Il*2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles with Aces expansion pack and merged Pacific Fighters?

Also, have you patched the game up to a version higher than the retail version?

Yeah, bro. As our esteemed Chuck Older has indicated, you need to supply us with more specifics if we are to help you. There are many here who are more than willing to jump at the chance to help a new collegue out.

Welcome aboard!

At this stage of the game is very hard to say what the problem is. Your computer could be overheating or you might have a bad driver install for your sound or video card....very difficult to say as you haven't provided much in the way of details.

My suggestion is to visit the Community Help forum (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/49310655) and read the instructions there on how to post your DXDiag information. Post that along with details of the problem you have (say roughly how long before it crashes, what happens when it crashes, error messages displayed, and so on).

Hello Pablo

Welcome to PC games and IL2 as well as the forum, The best thing you could do is ask this questin in the community help forum, it can often be something like the sound card setting or the video card drivers.... they will ask you to post your pc DXDIAG detail file so they can tell you what you need to adjust to stop it crashing.... it will probably be something simple, but they will need the PC DXDIAG details which the file will give them to help you, I will link from the community to your post here http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/1551037464

See if we can get you flying all the way through the game, hope you are enjoying it, as said their will be some patches you cna download, these will give you more planes etc, but we will need to know what version of the game you have bought, the Original IL2.... IL2 forgotten battles IL2 gold pack which is forgotten battles and the add on AEP... Pacific Fighters or indeed the DVD with Forgotten Battles AEP and Pacific Fighters as a merged game........

welcome to gaming, the game itself and the board here, all will try to help you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This is an example of the DXDIAG File, if you are unsure on how to get this ask http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am afraid we need more info on computer specs, when u last upgraded your vido/sound drivers (if ever) and any other info which could help.

What you just wrote is a bit like saying, 'my car has broken down, help me fix it' without us being able to see the type of car or even look at it. Or 'I am ill, can you cure me' but a doctor not being able to even examine you.

Try and give us as much info as possible.

Also, when you say it 'crashes', does the whole screen freeze up with the Il2 graphics still on the screen? Or do you get an error message? Or does it just reboot suddenly?

This thread now appears in the community help forum as well as general discussion. That should improve the level of trouble shooting a bit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hello everyone, and what a great positive start on the forun with you al giving such speedy answers to my post, many thanks. anyway i understand my post was a bit empty and i will therefore try and give as much info as possible.

I have an Evesham computer running windows XP Media centre edition 2005 version 2002, with service pack 2

AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core processor 3800+ 2.1ghz

1.00GB of ram

video card is an ATI Radeon x800 series. catalyst control centre version 06.6 which i just recently downloaded from ati as an update, i didnt see or know if there were any new drivers on the ATI site i should have downloaded.

ATI driver packaging version 8.263-060607a-033678c-ATI

my system tells me my grahpics adapter is running on driver version 8.263.0.0

my sound card is a RealTek AC97 and i downloaded an ugraded driver from the RealTek site the other day driver version 5.10.0.6120, i am running these on creative labs 5.1

The game itself is
IL2 Sturmovik series Complete Edition Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack and Pacific Fighters..

The Problem is it loads fine and then i go ito the game and the speed seems fine on the excellent setting and the sound is ok and everything and then what happens is that sometime 5 minutes into the game it freezes and the screen goes black and then at first a meesage box comes up from ATI saying that my graphics card is being reset as its not communicating or responding to instructions and asks me to send an error report to ATI, so i then go back to the game and i can play on but then after that the game just stops, my screen just goes black and a small monitor message comes up saying no signal, my computer does not shut down or reboot and the only thing i can do is turn it off at main power point and reboot, when i do this i load the game up choose a mission and then after about 5 mins or 8 mins or whatever the screen goes black again and no signal appears and i need to turn off computer again.

Hope this helps you all to figure out what could be going wrong??

oh yeah and i changed the display settings on the game to high then to moderate and it didnt look as good but the problem still happened.

Look forward to sorting this out.

Thanks

I'm no PC expert, but it would seem to me the trouble lies with the ATi card, or perhaps it's drivers

when the game loads, which version does the title screen display in red, at the bottom left corner?

to view your dxdiag options, go to:

start-&gt;run

then type in: dxdiag

then the direct x diagnostics tool comes up. Explore it a bit, and test some things out, dxdiag gives a message in the lower part of the window if it detects errors or conflicts

I'm sorry to say that I don't think it's the game though. I hope a ATi expert sees this thread and can shed some light on the problem. Don't give up http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

pablo-

I just read this on the Pacific Fighters Forum. This member has the dual core AMD setup and was experiencing big issues, and although not identical to yours, perhaps it could help? He provides a link to follow in this thread:

Definately a video card issue. Could be driver related or could be heat related. Its not catastrophic to the point where the GPU recover cannot intercede so that suggests its not a serious problem.

I had a similar problem back when i used ATI Radeon 9600pro. I no longer remember the exact problem, but it said the card had been reset, VPU recover, if i remember correctly.

If you're running AGP card, try changing the AGP-speed in catalyst center to 0x. It cleared the problem for me and didn't affect game performance.

Right click on your desktop&gt;Properties&gt;advanced&gt; have a look for Smartgart

If its the Catalyst Control centre

Thanks for all ure help so far

i downloaded the amd dual processor optimiser , though it doesnt seem to have cured the problem, deffo feel its something to do with the graphics card, the only other game im running at the moment is half life 2 and so far no probs with that.

i have just flew a mission in il2 about 5 minutes ago and it crashed again, screen going black monitor turns off to stanbye and gives a no signal message and then i have to switch comp off at mains and then restart again.

everything else seems to be fine in the game.

Help help i really want to get in and play this game.

i looked at my dxdiog file and it shows that everything seems to be fine no errors or conflicts.

Are you running the game in direct X or open GL? and in perfect mode? ( open Gl is the best, and is the one allows perfect mode )also check it is selected to the right graphics card

go in windows

start
all programmes
ubisoft folder
last window
click on set up
when that opens have a look if the correct card is being used and see if open GL is being used......... also open the sound tab and try running different settings, sometimes the game can conflict with those.........

Make sure its running in Opengl, not Direct X.

This issue came up when I had an ATI card too, you could try turning off VPU recover, that works for some people, but it may be that VPU recover is actually just a result of another error and not actually causing it.

When I turned off VPU recover it made no difference.

I cannot remember how to fix this issue now, but I am sure that you will find an answer on www.rage3d.com (http://www.rage3d.com) in the forums. They are excellent for any ATI card troubles and you will get help straight away.

I suspect simply chaning from Direct X to Opengl will fix the issue for this game tho, although u may have it turn up again on other directX only games. Try Rage3d forums for a permamnent answer. :http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi there.

I am running version 4.04 of the game if that helps, i have also followed some tweaking advice and removed all old drivers and ati control centre versions and re-installed them, i still get crashes about 5 mins into flying. This time the crash just froze the screen and the sound and i had to manually reboot the pc by turning it off then on, i have put the problem on the rage3d forum site as well hoping to get help.

also i have attached here my dxdiag below, hope this helps you all more to think what may be wrong.

DXDIAG info.

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'm not sure to what extent this will help you but I had exactly the same problem yesterday - thought maybe my drivers had become corrupted somehow. Anyway, I opened up CCC just to see whether it would open, it did, and the screen went black for a second or so and everything righted itself. No more crashes, sound freezes and whatnot. Bizarre.

maybe you've just got a bad install of your drivers - have you tried (re)installing the latest Cats?

BTW I have an X850pro.

Have you tried changing it from DirectX to openGL or vice versa if its already OGL?

Its in the IL2setup in your Il2 folder, there are many different options not found in the game interface.

C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\IL2setup.exe

Try changing the 'provider' to the other one and see if that makes any difference. You could also try changing some other stuff if this doesnt work.

Try that forst tho, I htink it is most likely to solve it for you.

Go into the IL2Setup.exe as described above. Click on the sound tab and uncheck 'Audio enhancements and hardware acceleraton' Click OK and leave IL2Setup.
Run the dxdiag program again. Under the sound tab, use the slider to reduce Sound Hardware acceleration to Standard. Apply and quit dxdiag.

Try the game again. Report.

.....whats the best way how to learn how to play the game and what controls to use to pilot the aircraft, i also bought a logitech attack 3 joystick is this anygood for the game....
</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

LMAO.... that brings back memories. That was my first joystick. I said to myself.... "I may not even like this thing". (At the time it was CFS1 back in 01..) Plus I thought that any more than the $20 I paid for mine was just "...way too much to spend to play some game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif..." LMAO.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif what a boob I was.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif LOL I have to laugh at myself today.... after 6 years and thousands of $$.... literally in upgrades and what not.....

LMAO.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Needless to say in about 2 weeks I was upgrading and it has been downhill ever since..... (I mean that in a good way..) The thing with the attack 3 is .. first of Logitech sticks are very flimsy.... does that stick have rudder control now? I know when I got mine way back it was rudderless and I was a target on the Zone.....

You want something with rudder control... I recommend Saitek.... try this (https://order.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/wg-order?unique=6932a&catalog=saitekusa&et=44c69a32&basket=b%3D5C3d42bfd100252c44c6932ad241c3d42bfd1f0 8c3244ed7387f6266ae6676bf2%26l%3D%26s%3DXm.7gbOtxC 02tDkeP9rRjkyLH2o-).. or CH Products (http://www.provantage.com/ch%7E110CHPU.htm).... I know it may seem pricey.. but it is well worth it and that stick, the Saitek X-52, retails for @$109.... If yoiu are not in the U.S though you may not be able to get one.. I am not sure about thier overseas delivery from the reconditioned store.. but I can testify as to the decency of thier sticks... The CH sticks are from what I hear to a person the best things smoking... but the Sateks are decent sustitutes if you dont want to spend that kind of money yet and you still want something decent.

I can see it now... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif in a year you will be rudder pedaled and TIR'ed up to the gills.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

just a thought - I've been having exactly the same problem as you, on and off. Thought I'd cracked it last week but no. It might be heat related. I've only been getting this problem when I've o/c'ed my card on a few of those really hot days we've had in SE England over the last week or two. Just a thought. Much cooler today and no sign of the problem as yet (can fly missions etc which I couldn't do before).

Maybe take the side of your PC off and get some more air in there?

Blow a household fan onto your motherboard. Thats the best way to test if its overheating in my opinion.

If it still crashes with that, then its most likely not a heat issue.
