It's here:

Cheers,

P.S. I put this topic in the ORR, because there are things in this vid which may interest the developpers (especially, the gunsmoke BEHIND, and the cockpit view DOWNWARDS).

That was friggin awesome. I could have gone without that wierd voice at the beginning but other than that its a masterpiece of editing.

Near the beginning, where the pilot is fiddling with the throttle lever, I was amazed that it looks like the control in the FB version. I always had my doubts about that block handled lever in FB's bubble top Jug, but now I am convinced.

INCREDIBLE Maybe the best I've ever seen. The view of the cockpit at the begining, the guncam scene's and at the end when the pilot wipes his brow and his hand starts shaking.

Awesome vid.

I liked the disguised ammo dumps.

It makes you realise how close to the real thing Il2 is. If only the sounds were a little better...

that footage is from the documentary "Conquerers of the Reich". the war department wanted to get some good historical film before the war ended, so it was filmed a couple of weeks before VE day. its a shame a lot of those boys were downed so close to the wars end.

Is this movie available somewhere?

I have the VHS of that thing - color. Ordered it from the History Channel Store. Basically, DOD comissioned Hollywood to make a movie based on what the other guy said above. Even more amazing, the video is only an hour long yet they filmed over 36 hours of footage of the highest film quality. So, 35 hours of it is in a film vault rotting. Watching the full out video you learn real quick that the 50s modeled in IL2 don't come anywhere near doing the real justice they deserve. I'm sure folks have graphs and stuff that say Oleg got it right but in that documentary, 50s laid waste to anything they touched with relative ease. Planes turned to metal dust, trains rendered big globs of melted metal, ships exploding, etc.. It's a powerful documentary to watch.

THanks for the answer.

It could be a good thing to convince a DVD editor to publish all the available material without too much editing (I hate editing on aviation footage, with too short sequences and video-clip style).

I wish Oleg and crew had used real samples of aircraft engine noise and mg/cannon fire.
The sound of those beasts starting up is awesome.
The mg/cannon fire sounds in game just do not compare.

I hope they use real aircraft sounds in BoB as I suppose it is too late for the current IL2 series.

Awesome little piece of movie footage that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

~S~ to the fine men who flew those birds...
