Hi All
Just picked up the IL 2 Gold Pack today
(now I guess I need to buy PF tomorrow)
Anyway whay joystick/control system do most of you use?
I tries mouse and keyboard, and couldn't really seem to make it work for me...
(of course I also crashed into another plane in my first mission but...)

Anyways any suggestions are appreciated!

Welcomeaboard Hexx...... That all depends on what you want to spend. If you are on a budget or you just arent sure then go here (http://store.yahoo.com/saitekusa/recprod.html) and get the reconditioned X-45 for $39. If you want to spend more then check out CH products here (http://www.provantage.com/buy-110CHPU-ch-shopping.htm). A HOTAS (<span class="ev_code_RED">H</span>ands <span class="ev_code_RED">O</span>n <span class="ev_code_RED">T</span>hrottle <span class="ev_code_RED">A</span>nd <span class="ev_code_RED">S</span>tick) is a good way to go. The X45 is a nice inexpensive HOTAS setup. CH offers a HOTAS too but you have to buy each component seperately. It is a matter of personal preference but a decent stick is a must. You will definitely need a rudder solution.... and a decent viewing solution. The X45 has a rudder rocker on the trottle and the X-52 has a twist rudder...

Bad experiencies with Logitech - They don't last.
Some early examples of the X-52 have a deadzone- / linearity-issue, otherwise Saitek products are ok.
Would recommend a Saitek EVO as budget/beginner solution.
I've got an X-52 with The Issue... not happy really. Would be such a great stick without the deadzone.
For viewing I've got a TIR3Pro wich I'm VERY happy with (but left-mousing also work).

Neo is right, Logitech is trouble all the way.
Too bad really because the Logitech freedom 2.4 has great ergonomics and enough buttons but most of my mates who bought it has the experience it last between 2-6 month before something faults.
That is my experience aswell.

Thanks Neo for posting about the X52. I was going to buy that one. Do U mean that the newest X52's are without that deadzone issue?
Cant u send yours back and get a new one?

-------------------------------------

I tried the Thrustmasters cougar stick and throttle and was surprized how well it worked with rudder mapped to a slider on the throttle.
(had no pedals) It worked better than with my twist stick...very precise and smooth movements.

I would buy the cougar if I could afford it...It will probably last a lifetime.
I think its always is a good idea to go to a shop and test how the joystick feels in the hand first. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Infact, I did send it back and got a new one in return... same problem though. If you gonna get one be sure to read saitek support-forum, this deadzone issue is discussed in a lot of threads.
Apparantly sticks with serial# <S00245477 might be affected by this.
Saitek seems contradictive about this, in one thread they say one should return it, next they say it's within specs... dunno what to do about this. Already exchanged it once, but I doubt the reseller here in Sweden have post-S00245477 in stock.
