You know, this obviously seems like a well made campaign and all, but if I want to play a Hurricane campaign I will do just that, and if I want to play a Spitfire campaign I will play a Spitfire campaign and not a Spitfire campaign where you fly a Hurricane. Why did you feel the need to make the player fly a Hurricane for a number of missions before being allowed to switch to the Spitfire?

There are already several fantastic Hurricane campaigns, and to be perfectly honest i'm kinda sick at flying it by now. I thought "Finally what seems like a great Spitfire campaign" when I downloaded your campaign, but instead I find myself in the seat of a Hurricane, again. I've flown 3 missions wishing to be transferred now, and I have an urge to skip the next few missions however many they are so I can finally fly the Spitfire.

Anyway, just my two cents..

The campaign is a the sequel to Hurricane season, and it's to be expected that a few missions have the Hurri when you think about it

I have, however to bring up a small issue in SNF:

The He-111s have the swastika backwards on the starboard side

other than this minor oversight, I see nothing wrong, and I'm loving it. I generally prefer ground starts, but the way the briefings are set up, it's a good way to justify the air start and set the stage all at the same time. Thanks, Cobra http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I like the Hurricane but Im tired of having to remember to turn on every dive or stall out. It must have been tedious for the actual pilots.

Thats actually quite normal 462cid, the He-111 skins have mirrored fins, so this sort of thing cannot be worked around.

Sorry Kejotikk,

Didn't mean to upset you... there's only about 3 missions in the Cane... it's called a "plot twist" or a "delay"... it's meant to be an "unexpected" so you can't predict what will happen next. It's so when you actually get your Spit, your reaction will be WooHoo!

I promise you, there's LOTS of good Spit flying to be done.

And about those He 111 tails - it's what Skunk241981 said.

Some of the airstarts are necessary on larger flights to get the flights "merged" otherwise it can be almost impossible to get things to come together in the proper timing.

TALLY HO!

Cobra: Don't worry I'm not upset, was just a little frustrated is all. I'm looking forward to the rest of the campaign, I've been playing Flatspinmans BoB campaign lately (which is excellent btw) so I was a little tired of the old Hurricane and wanted some change you see.

By the way, in the mission where there's a flight of JU88's close to the deck, were the Emil escort supposed to get sidetracked because of one little Douglas and get separated from the JU's? It was a total slaughter, not a single JU was left and the Emils ended up flying into a hill.

Cobra427so
04-15-2007, 05:59 PM
Heh... in all the times I tested, they never flew into the hill... as far as them getting sidetracked, sometimes they did, sometimes not.

You never can tell with these things, they can be so unpredictable.

I had some time tonight to play no.s 3 and 4 and really really had a good time. I think you chose great weather/lighting conditions for these ones and the action was nicely co-ordinated.
MINOR SPOILER****
I loved the head-on approach to the bombers - very satisfying!
SPOILER OVER****

I find I really love diving into the fray in the BOB scenario - feels different from most other scenarios I have played. There's just something magic for me about BOB. I can't wait to try SOW:BOB. The limited planeset is going to take some gettiong used to but the theatre will be brilliant - it's what WWII air war is all about in my mind. Well, that and the Bomber Offensive.

Strangely for one so keen on flying for teh LW, I'm really enjoying lining up Emils and Heinkels in my sights. Must be some deep-seated in-born patriotism rearing its head or maybe it's just that the Emil looks so darned good, even through a gunsight.

I have been enjoying the Hurricane - this time I set convergence to 200 and that has a good effect on anything I hit. Not insta-kills like I'm used to with the 109 but invariably I bag a bandit or two before the mission is over. I must admit I'm not great at actually avoiding getting hit and so have tended to land at the many well done temporary airfields dotted about the place.

Just a great fun campaign.

I'm kind of reluctant to take a Spitfire now as the Hurricane is just so stable. I do wonder how many pilots lost their lives due to the ridiculous engine cut-out problem they and the early Spits suffered from. Just about been the end of me twice so far but luckily I have been able to recover.

This (and it's predecessor) are interesting to me mainly because of the implication it's possible to be something other than a mostly-helpless target when in a Hurricane. They rock at ground attack but as soon as you let a 109 get close? I might as well bail out now and save them the trouble. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Im havng that problem now in the Malta campaign were a swarm of Bf-109's come in wipe out my squadron insantly and Im all alone at 10,000 ft. Then one actually crashes into me from the side.

Will it work with 1946?

FlatSpinMan

Yep. Any campaign should work with a later version (sometimes the AI planes may do strange things though as the flight model etc changes from time to time.

Another Q.
If this is the 2nd half what if the 1st half?

FlatSpinMan
04-24-2007, 09:25 PM
Hey again,
The Spitfire one is part two. Part one is called BOB: Hurricane Season in which the player flies a Hurricane. It's also available at Mission4Today - look under Downloads, Campaigns (Offline). There's heaps of really interesting stuff on that site, enough to keep me going for years.

Sovien
04-25-2007, 10:30 AM
This will also work with IL2 1946 correct?

How do you pass the 1st bloody mission? Whats the objectives?

Huxley_S
04-26-2007, 05:20 PM
Extracting the files into your install directory creates a directory called IL2 and you have to manually move the files from there.

In the second mission I shot down a couple of enemy bombers but was hit and lost ailerons. Ground control gave me a bearing for home base headed North. After half an hour of flying around looking for an airfield using just rudder and elevator I found a factory with an airstrip and made a nice landing.

Mission Failed.

Hmmm....

Cobra427so
04-26-2007, 07:25 PM
WilhelmSchultz - Objectives are the same as war... kill, survive, get to a base and land safely. (You can prang on landing as long as you survive).

Huxley - you must've landed at Seven Oaks... Maidstone, (which isn't available until Mission 3) is the factory that qualifies as a "home base". You can still land at Seven Oaks, you just won't get a mission success.

Cobra427so

I have played a couple more missions this week and I have to say I get really tense diving into the attacking hordes. SOW:BOB is going to be great if it's properly done. The scale is what is lacking in most missions in IL2. I like having the speed and hitting power of the Spit but I can't say I enjoy flying it much - such a jiggly, wobbly plane, especailly when firing. More cannon ammo would also be nice, especially for someone who usually flies blue.
Anyway, dashed good fun and I think the briefings are introducing the missions well. Just wondering though - is Angels 12 12000feet or what? Never been sure on that point.

That can't be anything done by the mission builder I'm afraid. Check your sound hardware.

Motion-Mx

it's only this campaign that the sound doesn't work, played other missions and the sound works ok.....

Motion-Mx
11-05-2008, 03:59 AM
Do you know what could be causing it?

Sirrith
11-05-2008, 04:42 AM
Flatspinman, we reds dont need the extra cannon ammo http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif hehe jk.
While I do enjoy seeing little explosions all over the enemy from cannonfire, I have to say I prefer peppering them with 8 MGs :P

I havn't had the chance to try this yet. But I'll see if it works with PF v3.0. If not... then I'll just have to wait until christmas http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

FlatSpinMan
11-05-2008, 05:56 AM
Sirrith - you still playing on PF v3.0? You have to get '46 if you can find it. There's a whole new world, especially with your system.

Motion-Mx - I'm just wondering if it's something related to the MODS. None are required for this campaign but perhaps you have some conflict due to them. Again, from the FMB it is absolutely impossible to turn off or on the player's engine sound so it can't be anything Cobra did when making the campaign, I'm afraid. Look at your in-game sound settings. You must have inadvertently switched something off.

Motion-Mx
11-05-2008, 11:12 AM
Hi,

Yeah must be mod related,as I say i can fly other missions and online with no problems,I havent ever touched the sound settings,it;s also not just engine sounds it's everything.

Any ideas how I might solve it?

Cheers,Ben

FlatSpinMan
11-07-2008, 05:16 AM
Are you in the MkI? Maybe that's the problem. It was originally designed for the MkVb but i'm pretty sure someone 'remastrered' it for the MkI. I lost sound for a while in some of the newly flyable or 'new' planes.

Motion-Mx
11-07-2008, 07:39 AM
Hi,

Thanks, not sure which MK it was,i'll check when i'm back,is it possible to change it if it is the MK1?

Thankyou,Ben

FlatSpinMan
11-07-2008, 08:52 AM
I don't know for sure that ths is the problem, I'm just guessing.

Does it have cannons? If so, it's not the MkI. Should you so desire you can change it by going into the FMB, finding the flight (look for the flag on the waypoints which indicates it's tehplayer's flight) and then click it, open Objects in the top left of the screen and then scroll around till you find Spitfire MkWhatever. Alternatively you could download the orginal version.
